I'm not sure why you quoted me when you didn't address the point I raised. Which was how do these high end shops make a profit if they don't sell anything?

In ICONSIAM there are a lot of expensive shops, I remember even seeing a Ferrari showroom.

Some brands have shops in expensive locations just for branding and reputation. I think most shops on Champ Elysees in Paris will not make enough to even pay the rent. But for this to work you need to make money somewhere else so you can compensate the loss you make on your prime locations.

But I don't believe that this explains everything in Thailand. ICONSIAM is a prime location, but most other malls are not.

It's the same with condo's. There are some really big and expensive projects in my street. They were finished some years ago. More than half is still for sale. When you look in the evening you see 3 condo's where the lights are on. The rest of the building is completely dark.

I can imagine that a developer gets money from the bank to start building. And that he pays back when the condo's are sold. But how can he pay the bank if the condo's are not sold?

Where does the money come from? Are banks in Thailand really that creditworthy?  They must have a lot of bad loans.

Well yeah, small shops could do themselves a favour and compete better with shopping malls by not being so incredibly sh*t.

    Compete with shopping malls?

I am always shocked to see the prices in malls here. Most things cost twice as much compared to my home country, where people earn 2,3,4,5,6 times as much.

You see a lot of people here in malls. But I have heard someone say that you can tell the success of a shopping street by the number of people with shopping bags.

Based on that the malls here are a big failure.

Who can afford to go shopping in ICONSIAM?

  3. Call local hotels.. They know best.

I was able to rent a condo for some days last week (hotels are closed). And after searching we even found a beach without warning signs about closed beaches. It was in Sattahip. It's not an island, but after Bangkok for some months I was happy with everything.

What proof are you looking for? The ones that clearly state that the amount of deaths and infected are lower than the yearly flu? Or the ones that clearly state it´s a common virus that can be compared to a flu based om the registered victims and deaths?

Yes!  Till now all proof I saw was fabricated.

I just finished reading an article about people still having health issues after a mild infection of this flu. Months later they are still ill, it seems that this flu causes permanent damage to organs, even with people who were mildly infected and could stay at home to get better.

  5. We drove by car from BKK to Jomtien last thursday. There are no checkpoints anymore. We went to Pattaya today without problems. It's only very very quiet. Streets are almost empty, many shops and restaurants are closed.

Also I don't think you saw that in New York, 60% of all new cases were from people that were in complete lockdown, so there goes the lockdown theory.

It seems you do not believe that people cannot get infected in a complete lockdown?  I mean, really a complete lockdown...  It's impossible.

And where did you get that 60% ?  Till now all numbers that came from the US were unreliable, they used unreliable ways of testing, unreliable ways to choose people to test, unreliable tests giving a lot of false positives etc. I have no doubts the number you mention was made in a similar way.

This is .0024, or .24% of the population.

Does this make sense to lock down the whole world?

What would happen without lock downs?

You use numbers after many countries locked down, and you use these numbers to prove that a lockdown is not useful?

There are few road deaths, which shows that speed limits are not necessary and that nobody has to use seat belts ????

  8. Problems with providers can also be very local. Where I lived before I also had AIS 50/20. I wanted 100 mbps but they said that it was not possible in that condo because the lines were old. Usually it worked ok, but on saterday and sunday (when a lot of people are at home and use internet) the connection was really bad. Even watching youtube was sometimes impossible without interuptions. I think the quality of the line in our soi to the condo building was just very bad and couldn't handle much traffic.

I moved to another condo and now everything is fine. Even in the weekend I have a very good connection.

Sounds good. So it should be 2 Mbit then on the international connection? 1 is to little?

    I googled. For voip calls:

Does VoIP use a lot of bandwidth?

Typically, you will need anywhere from 85 - 100 Kbps per concurrent VoIP call.

So with 1 mbit you can make 10 calls at the same time.

    for skype:

    Video calling (high-quality)400kbps / 400kbps

    Video calling (HD)1.2Mbps / 1.2Mbps

You really do not need very much. But it is important that what you need is available 100% of the time, without interruptions.

3BB has 1000/500 and Ais has 500/200 for very similar price. 3BB is the obvious choice here.

3BB is better because they offer double the speed for the same price ?

I have AIS 50/20 in Bangkok. I use voip for business calls to NL. Sound quality is great, I notice no difference compared to being in NL myself. Skype calls to Europe are perfect. I stream television from NL, it looks great.

The most important question is if your provider has 1 or 2 mbit on an international connection for you if you want to make a call. That is all you need.

One guy collects a daily fee for cleaning the communal toilet.

Another guy collects for contribution for electrical bill.

A third collects for water supply.

Yet another collects for taking away the trash.

The guy with the red hat collects for wash down and scrub floor after the market closes.

The guy with the bulge under his shirt collects for not putting a hole in you.

Finally the guy sitting in the ac Mercedes SUV having his man collect for him gets paid for keeping the peace between all the others.

So which guy was it that you saw?

I am not sure. It is a public street, and most vendors do not use electricity/water etc.

It was a bit like a scene from a mafia movie.

They keep popping up and many pay off the local gendarmes.

Last week I was at a market here in Bangkok. I noticed a man walking around, going from vendor to vendor, and all of them gave him 20 Baht. I recognized the color of the banknote ???? ???? ????  He didn't say anything, just walked from vendor to vendor to get money.

Does anyone know what this could be for?

Sweden, Japan, Belarus didn't do anything to stop the virus and they have the same numbers as other countries...

That is not the whole truth.

In Sweden they decided to let the people decide how to behave. And it is slowly getting worse. Quote:

"Sweden, with a population of 10 million, remains amongst the top 20 in the world when it comes to the total number of cases

    ...

It has higher death rates in relation to its population size than anywhere else in Scandinavia."

Belarus is a dictatorship, no testing, no reliable numbers.
