I have one most of the time. They don't really check what is inside the bag nor do they care when the metal detector beep. There is a reason why unemployment is low in Thailand.

I noticed that they mostly check Thai people and very seldom do I see a white tourist/expat being checked. I have lived in Bangkok for 16 months, ride the MRT/BTS a lot and was only checked once when I first arrived. I even open my bag sometimes and try to show them and they don't even look. I see some of them looking on their phones and people just walking right past and all I can do is laugh...

Well; it is certainly undeveloped, can't even guarantee a stable electricity supply for the most part, no proper sewerage system with Treatment Plants etc.  They still don't have a Submarine or any HST's and many of their helicopters have either crashed or have no parts to make them serviceable !   However; my belief is that every country should hammer Thailand into submission when it come to unfair trading practices like massive Tarriff's on Imported goods whilst expecting zero duty on its Exports to other country's.  Thai Citizens living and working in other country's should also be treated in the same way as we are living here...Like Dog S**t  !

    I agree 100%!!!

A "War Room" no less. This will frighten POTUS for sure. There is a huge inbalance of trade in Thailand's favour. That might need fixing.

So might the human rights and slavery issue in the fishing industry that prompted this action.

Instead these bright sparks set up a confrontationist style "War Room" with highly decorated military generals planning battle tactics. will they ever learn?

    You can't fix stupid.

Another effect of Trump's policies regarding " make America great again " is that a lot of former business partners feel betrayed by now and go for alternatives ...

America is becoming more isolated ... that is not good ...

Geographically China is more close to Thailand , of course , and chinese visitors ( tourists ) are more important to Thailand than Americans .

The US want to impose their rules , that is not well seen in Asia .

Simply said, we impose our rules on those that come crying to us with their hand out wanting financial aid.

I really find it hard to understand why they make such a big deal about a simple arrest.

    This should answer your question...

Signs and symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder and the severity of symptoms vary. People with the disorder can:

    • Have an exaggerated sense of self-importance
    • Have a sense of entitlement and require constant, excessive admiration
    • Expect to be recognized as superior even without achievements that warrant it
    • Exaggerate achievements and talents
    • Be preoccupied with fantasies about success, power, brilliance, beauty or the perfect mate
    • Believe they are superior and can only associate with equally special people
    • Monopolize conversations and belittle or look down on people they perceive as inferior
    • Expect special favors and unquestioning compliance with their expectations
    • Take advantage of others to get what they want
    • Have an inability or unwillingness to recognize the needs and feelings of others
    • Be envious of others and believe others envy them
    • Behave in an arrogant or haughty manner, coming across as conceited, boastful and pretentious
    • Insist on having the best of everything — for instance, the best car or office

At the same time, people with narcissistic personality disorder have trouble handling anything they perceive as criticism, and they can:

    • Become impatient or angry when they don't receive special treatment
    • Have significant interpersonal problems and easily feel slighted
    • React with rage or contempt and try to belittle the other person to make themselves appear superior
    • Have difficulty regulating emotions and behavior
    • Experience major problems dealing with stress and adapting to change
    • Feel depressed and moody because they fall short of perfection
    • Have secret feelings of insecurity, shame, vulnerability and humiliation

Everything you have said is exactly as I experienced when first moved to a large Isaan city and travelled in a songtaew. Farangs in holiday resorts don't experience this. So many times I heard, mainly older, female Thais say "falang men" (farang stink) when I entered. They assumed wrongly that I would not understand.

I never spoke but my very nice Thai neighbours put an end to that demanding that I "speak up" which I did in my very best cutting colloquial Thai. Result total shock and silence.. Thereafter I made many other nice aquaintances and had many nice chats.

Not everyone is so bad but the younger femailes don't like to sit next to a Farang in case people think that they are "kept" girlfriends. Not excusing the others though.

I honestly don't care what these people think of me. Seriously why would you value their opinion anyway, just concider the source ????

I could not disagree more with your generalisation.  I think Rooster, as usual, has made some very valid points.

I believe that as my time in Thailand extends so does my knowledge and understanding of both Thailand and my Thai friends and acquaintances as does their understanding of me.

I must disagree with you scottiejohn based on my personal experiences. I have a large group of wonderful Thai friends both men and women. Actually meeting my male friends through the women. Everyone that knows me has welcomed me into their homes on many occasions and shown me nothing but love and kindness. It's the people that don't know us who are at issue. When women stare at me I smile back at them and speaking in Thai say hello and ask how they are. They immediately smile with shy embarrassment and happily say hello. The Thai men on the other hand not so good. Many times when I am out walking they will make direct eye contact and cross into my path and deliberately run into me. Myself being of a rather large athletic and muscular build has yet to work in their favour. I have had Thai men on motorbikes riding on the footpath do the same thing only to end up with a broken mirror. Can you possibly explain this behaviour in Thai men?

Maybe it is the translation but the police passing it off as a 'typical case of youthful recklessness ' when the victim only has a 50 percent chance of survival seems a bit of an understatement.

It's always passed off when the victim is a foreigner and when foreigners fight back in self defence they are charged with fighting. These types of attacks do absolutely nothing for the image of Thailand and the tourism industry here. How many times do we read about bouncers, taxi and tuk tuk drivers ganging up on one tourist and it's passed off as a "misunderstanding". It's all over YouTube and video doesn't lie. A serious wake-up call needs to be given and people stop coming here and spend their money elsewhere where they are more welcome and protected!!!
