  1. I think in USA it is a resident discount.

There are quit a few "official" places that charge a non Thai person a higher price never mind you have a tax id, work permit, driving license etc.

But also a lot of venues accept for example a driving license to get the "Thai" price.

I agree it is ok to make two pricing for Tourist and locals but it is not ok to make that decision on the race of the visitor.

  2. Hi

I am looking to buy a car from Chevrolet in Ubon Ratchathani. The dealership are offering 3.6% interest p.a. which would mean a hefty 21% over 6 years. The car value is 587k but I will end up paying close to 700k!!!

I was wondering if getting a loan from my bank instead would work out cheaper? Information I have been getting is that the banks charge the same.

    Thanks

    Liam

Just for the sake of argument compare that to car loans in Europe. They go up to 7-12 % p.a. Compared to that loans in Thailand are pretty cheap. However I believe that you could do better than that if you chose a shorter period.

There is a paradox at Thai car dealers: they go

for longer finance periods as their commission is higher; but too long and you get hit with a higher interest rate. Try at least to have some goodies thrown in.

Sent from my GT-N7000 using Thaivisa Connect App

Thai finance only sounds cheaper as in Europe because Thais calculate the interest on the total sum x years.

For example you lend 600,000 with 2% p.a. (2 % 12000THB per year) for 48 month you pay even in month number 47 1000 THB interest to finance.

In Europe the interest is calculated only on the amount you owe to the bank! In the above example:

    600000 x 2% p.a. 48 month fixed thai style =

    600000 + (12000*4)=648000 total

Thats about 3.85% if you use the correct way to calculate interest.

    http://www.calculato...calculator.html

    587000 - 3.6% p.a. flat - 6 years

    587000 + (21132*6)=713792 ( interest 126792 THB) thats about 6.7% p.a. outside of Thailand...smile.png

  3. The TT rate is always the best only if you compare within the same Bank.

Usually it is possible to exchange cash always slightly better the Telex Transfer, but you must exchange in Bangkok.

For example today the best TT rate for Euro was Bangkok Bank with 38.65 THB, Cash Exchange for BBL was 38.4 THB.

Cash Exchange at Super Rich Ratchadamri was 38.8 THB, so better then Telex. In your case with 10,000 it is 386,500 THB Telex Transfer or 388,000 cash in Bangkok. 1500 THB not much difference and you have the risk.

If you carry cash change to 100 or 500 notes, exchange rates for bigger notes are slightly better.

By the way, you can take as much money as you like into Thailand, you only should declare it. Declaration is also very important at you departure airport in Europe.

  4. I can only speak for Kasikorn, i have a normal thai baht account which supports online banking. Kasikorn calls it cyberbanking. From the thai baht account i can also do online transfers to foreign countries.

The Euro account is not online accessible. Also the passbook of this Euro account can only be updated in the bank which opened the account. You can't do it yourself, the self service printer don't work with the foreign currency accounts. On top of that Kasikorn charges about 1200 baht bank fees for every deposit you do.

If you decide to move for example Euro to your Thb account they use the slightly better Telex transfer rates. In Pattaya only a few Kasikorn branches are able to open currency accounts, I use the one next to Tukcom.

  5. Hi,

    you may check this link:

    http://www.imukiauto.com/product.php?cat_id=10

There is another huge company near Bitec, but I forgot the name. They do only leather seats for cars and nothing else... If I remember the name I'll send it to you.

Under 10.000 THB sounds very, very cheap for leatherwhistling.gif and very expensive for vinylgiggle.gif .

Usually Vinyl are only covers, the old fabric stays on the seats. If you convert to real leather they will remove the old fabric and put some glue on the seats before the leather goes on.

So going back to fabric is more complicated then with vinyl. Also installation takes at least one day for leather and you will notice the smell of glue for about 2-3 days.

Vinyl installation is 1-2 hours if you remove the seats.

  6. If you want the iron on there are two shops that I know of. One is in the old Carrefour first floor in front of Bata shoe shop. The other one is in BIG C Sukhumvit in front of Thanachart.

Look and feel of iron on transfer paper is different to a silk screen, it feels hard, colors often looks washed out and it's uncomfortable to wear.

If you sometimes go to Bangkok there is a small shop in Union Mall Lat Phrao which has a DTG (direct to garment) printer. Printing of a T-Shirt cost about 200 Baht, but you can only print on white Shirts. The output of such a printer is often better as a screen print, especially if it comes to resolution and you can not feel any difference between printed or not printed area.

Which makes such a shirt very comfortable to wear.

  7. Hello lomatopo,

thanks for the Info.wai.gif I think I'll stay with True as I was happy with the speed. I was only a little bit annoyed because of the ad on there website.

I mean, for me it is absolute impossible to download 1.25 GB on there EDGE networtk. It is extremely slow. So I think a lot of people only read the 1.25 GB and don`t look that there is no 3G service included anymore.

It is like a buffet restaurant, imagine usual time limit is 90 minutes, food is fine and price is fair.

You go there for 1 year and next day they announce the time limit now not 90 minutes but 3 hours, same price as before... Most people think, cool more time same price....

You pay and enter the restaurant.

And all they offer is rice soup.

  8. I also have the same problem.

Same Prepaid True Sim card for about 10 years now and used 3G since it was available on eastern seaboard.

Last time I had not enough credit on the card to auto - extend the package. A week later I topped up and booked a new package:

    http://www.truemove.com/th/wifi-edge-gprs-package.htm

Just send V2 to ... blablabla same a always.

Take a look at the page...

Before I paid 399 Baht for 500 MB traffic , now it is 1.25 GB. I thought great, super tongue.png

Booked the package and no internet at all. Called the true service center, took them 2 minutes to explain to me that I have to turn off 3G on the iphone, my new package is only for EDGE!

3G is not longer available for my old card, I should change the card....

Great service from True. Only question I have, how do you use 1.25 GB of traffic on True Edge. Foooqing EDGE is so slow, the speedtest doesn't even start.

To open a simple non graphic webpage takes minutes if it opens at all.

They told me If I want to use 3G I have to get a new SIM TRUE H Card, to transfer my old number takes around 3-7 days... Prepaid is also available, 1GB about 370 THB.

  9. Hi,

I would recommend you blind men massage center in Na kluea soi 22.

There you can choose between a/c and fan rooms. Fan room is also cheaper, I think 120 thb/hour.

Car park next to the building. They have usually +30 masseuse on duty.

    It's easy to find:

Drive 2nd road up until dolphin round about

Take 2. Exit in round about - direction Na klue

Take first soi on the left (I think there is a family mart or 7/11 on the corner).

Follow the street, about 200 metres on left side is blind man massage. Sauna & small pool also available.

This is strictly medical massage place.

  10. The full write up of the Bangkok to Pattalung road trip;

    http://www.facebook.com/notes/ford-asia-pacific-and-africa/all-new-ford-ranger-proves-superior-fuel-efficiency-during-long-range-challenge/10150391240928805

After a little math it seems they did it 1,673 KM on a single tank, I'm guessing it was done in the 2.2 XLT Open Cab Manual. They also posted some figures of fuel consumption;Open Cab Manual 2.2L XLT 4x2: 19.47 Km/L This works out to about 5.1 litters per 100KMDouble Cap Manual 2.2L XLT Hi-rider 4x2: 18.18 Km/L This works out to about 5.5 litters per 100KM

    Hello Stefan,

1673km on a 80 ltr. tank works out to 4,781829 ltr. (not 5,1 ltr). IMHO both numbers are only for advertising purposes, as only somebody who still belives in Santa Claus would takes this without a grain of salt.

If your car uses 5,1 ltr on 100km it is 16,73*5,1 ltr=85,323 ltr.

So you must stop to refill during the 1673 trip, which they probably did

Anyway, the Ford looks awesome! I have seen quit a few around Rayong and if you see one parked next to a vigo, the vigo looks small :D

  11. ^ Thanks for that. :jap:

Just a quick question, did you drive via the 7 or via the 3 (Sukhumvit) from Pattaya ?

    Hi,

I was there last Friday. Take the 3 from Chonburi, if you use the toll way leave it early enough... I left it to late and had to do two U-turns in heavy traffic. That mistake cost me around 45 minutes. The entrance to the Ikea car Park is from the Road 3 only.

Shop is nice, also a lot food stuff like Knaeggebrot, Jam and chocolate and frozen cakes, pizza etc.

Chocolate was only 29 Thb. for 100gr. !

Take a cooling box along, just in case...

  12. I use TomTom Thailand (offline navigation) often on my Iphone, works fine. I also have 2 Garmin units and there is no big difference between. The TomTom App works great,on the Ipad it even supports dual view (junction view only in BKK and map) since the last update.

Garmin units bought outside of Thailand doesn't support junction view at all, which is why I prefer the Iphone in Bangkok.

However GPS reception and lock on is better and faster on the newer Garmin units compared to the Iphone.

  13. Usually every big mall has a section with small mobile phone shops, you'll find bluetooth stereo headsets there.

MBK Center on 5. or 6. floor has a huge selection of this small stalls. Bluetooth accessories are not cheap in

    Thailand.

I use Jabra Clipper which I bought in Thailand, it was about 1700 Thb a couple of months ago.

  14. MIL wants to buy a new car, and the government is currently giving big rebates for "first time car buys" (you get like 100,000 back). She has already owned a car so would not qualify for the rebate.I'm assuming that the rebate doesn't apply to foreigners, or maybe it does?
Transfer the car she has into your name then she can buy a new ride. :)
Well, then it will not be her first car. :)

I'm also not sure about the "First Car" definiton...

Is it first car ever or first car at this time?

  15. I had a ruptured appendix about a year ago. went to Bumrungrad for operation. Was in the hospital for ten nights private room top notch care. Cost me 300,000 baht and worth every satang

Are you referring to money you actually paid, or quoting what the hospital billed your health insurance company? You know whatever is listed gets negotiated down, right? Anyhow, looking up Appendectomy on a popular US website healthcarefees will make any sum you pay in Thailand seem highly reasonable!

I have no insurance, that was out of my pocket. As I understand it, it would run somewhere between 300,000USD and 500,000USD in the states. So to me 10,000 USD seems very reasonable.

I find it outrages expensive to charge 300-500k USD for an even complicated ruptured appendix.

Since nobody answers to the 300-500k USD I'll ask the question.

Is it really that expensive in the US?

That would be around 15 Million THB for what, 3-4 hours surgery and 10 days in the Hospital...

  16. Congratulations on your recovery!

What I don't understand is, if you have enough money to spend on business class tickets, chin implants and more then 60,000 USD on medicine, why you are such a tight ass when it comes to rather cheap treatments that with the help of local anesthesia are pain free?

Does it satisfy you to expose your body to such pain? Do you feel more relaxed after your treatment? Do you want to shock other people with you actions? Do you want to punish yourself for beeing such an idiot in the past?

  17. Gong

    Hello Farang Buddha,

A refrigerator or washing machine I'll use maybe 10 years.

To drive 10 years the same bloody car would be a little boring, hence people with limited financial funds have a tendency to have a look at the depreciation.

Of course I accept your opinion, if you say a car is just for transportation, then it doesn't matter you have a new one every 2 or 20 years.

    You wrote:

The value of a car comes from the transportation services it provides during its lifetime.

Sometimes there is a life for a car when one don't need it anymore (or one don't want it anymore).

It is like a new life circle for the car, it will be reborn and loved by the new parents (who can't afford or don't want to spend so much money to drive a brand new car )

The car maybe be reborn several times until it finds his way to Nirvana (scrap yard).

In case of the Cruze I think it maybe comes rather early to Nirvana B) , but it made at least one owner, who happens to be a member of Thaivisa.com, very happy during it's life

    cycle.

    Moral of the story?

Life is suffering, especially if you drive a Chevrolet :P

    Amen.

    @Thailand

You are clearly a high roller, that goes for all or nothing,

because I've never seen any underwear at Makro.
