Thailand to “focus on quality tourists who can spend more”
LomSak27 replied to webfact's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
Side note - As you can earn up to 108K USD, tax free as an expat (more, much more, with a good accountant) , doubt that is a real valid reason. Lots of people like to talk about, cry about, get outraged about, the IRS. People I have met with real IRS tax problems living over here, invariably incurred them because of businesses, real estate, previous ownerships, earnings and how to say, 'legal judgements', all from their time in the US. Not from living and working overseas. You are spot on about the distance time equation. With a 16 to 24 hours flying time, once you factor in airport and change flight times, that is one long painful trip. Given times zones, one of the worst jet lags you will ever encounter., coming and going. All for a two or three week vacation?! Thailand will always have US tourists, but not enough to be a major player. That said Thailand was getting more US retirees in the last decade, likely for the same reasons they had previous waves of Germans or Brits. All that before the pandemic though, who knows what will happen now. -
Thailand to “focus on quality tourists who can spend more”

Obviously this has been the head guy, yes that guy's, pipedream for years now. Long time before Still no specifics on why quality tourists would choose Thailand. What's the lure? How are they going to sell it. "Digital nomads" What the heck? I have met a wealthy digital nomad, BTW, one. Retired after twenty as a microserf in Redmond. Making real money as he traveled. However that is a world away from you tuber nomads you meet online or up around Nimmanhemin. The ones having the 25 Baht plates of gap cow on side sois. Those champagne wishes and caviar dreams, never cease to amaze.. -
Being scared to talk to other farang

OP Pattaya is bad enough, add dirtbags and what did you expect?! The solution is as simple as a move. Most normal people refuse to live in a squirrel cage, BTW. -
Of the local products I use Nivea for men Stress protect. Looks like the pic above, but liquid. They market a bunch of brands. Still, I have to look a bit to find that exact one. I do not know what stores are in Hua Hin, but I ran into some Old Spice 'Pure Sport' a couple months back. I am in CM, so either in Tops or Rimping market, I forget the exact store, but I picked one up So it is out there.

Why tip? Just tell them you are an Aussie.

Kad Suan Gaeow - the old mall. Ground floor, walk out of Tops to your left past the food area up, left again up a few stairs and in that back area a guy runs a print shop. You can get a passport face page, & current visa copied and made into a pretty nifty ID card. I had CDC vaccination card copied and laminated in the same way. Wallet vaccination card & ID, seriously chuffed.

Thailand reopening may be delayed to Nov 1: TAT

The obligatory rollback. The only real question, will there be another?! Reality Bites. Meanwhile back to clipping coupons. -
Covid vaccine required?
LomSak27 replied to scroggins's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Ok, but who has been vaccinated for twelve months at present? Not an issue for some time. I flew domestic into CM last Friday. I half expected a wave threw, but they were really enforcing. All passengers had to form up in 4 lines in baggage claim (yes & a mess), then go through the cattle chutes processing papers. The one difference from posted rules that I have seen was local Thais were being asked to show 1 vaccination of AZ or Sino--- or a RT PCR test. In my case, they looked over everything I had. Would emphatically advise, if a non Thai national, you have all papers they ask for. plus appropriate QR codes -
Covid vaccine required?
LomSak27 replied to scroggins's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
As stated above, not required to enter. However, once you get through the mandatory ASQ hotel quarantine on arrival. If you travel anywhere you are likely going to have to have a RT PCR test to do so, with a chance of quarantine AGAIN on arrival in next province. It is a furball at present. If you are unvaccinated, yes they look at that, traveling upcountry could land you in, another 'provincial quarantine' depending on that provinces regulations. There is a Facebook site. 'Thailand Travel Restriction' They keep as up to date with provincial restrictions as anyone and there color coding scheme. Note a couple people on that site, had arrived here unvaccinated, thinking they could travel around, and were seriously depressed with the reality of things. Hopefully this will change, but.
