bigger cities have what we need........police presence.  Sure, they might not take our side, but they might.  in small towns, there is no police and it's all drug smuggling and self-imposed laws.  kids get bored and own the streets, usually drunk which leads to bad decisions.  

in a big city like Chiang Mai, tourism still means something and the police know it.   

Chistmas is for kids of Christian families.  If you don't spend money on them, you are a a bad parent.  If you don't see your parents for 11 months and then forced to see them, that won't be fun.

the holiday is fine because lots of kids will smile.  is it sad they have to be bought gifts for a smile?  of course.  

Here's how predictions work!!!!!

Example:  You are 60, will die in 20 years.....so you MUST see the end of the world because it's the end of your world and you're selfish

So, in 20-years the Earth will ..... (google, more google, talk to older people, google, read stories on disasters, youtube)....

reasons change.  

1.  change of pace

2.  culture shock to make life more interesting

3.  women, because the game is fun

4.  weather

5.  money goes farther

6.  a challenge to see how long you can last

then you hate the weather, tired of the games, culture is now normal, and after five years you have 'seen that-done that' and you think of vietnam.

scientists and religious nut jobs are both crazy; however, i would trust a scientist over a bible beater.  we don't even know the perfect diet after a zillion years, and dark matter is some gravity something or well we were 99 percent sure now, after we published our work and got paid, we really don't know.  but i feel scientists TRY to use their brain.  and that's enough for me.  

if i had to guess, the average IQ of a scientist is about 130.  average IQ of a bible worshiper is 80.

Let me guess, most can't speak Thai, most think money should make others respect them, and back home the yearned for someone loving them for just one day....and bitter over something or another, and endless complaining.

spend a few years learning Thai, get good at something, and add value to others.  and quit crying to strangers the moment you don't get your way.   wow, immature.  

these farangs wear disrespectful clothes, act in a rude way, and then go home alone and get mad life isn't what they thought.  i'm sure soooo many chose Thailand for the wrong reason.

I understand the whole, "I'm a millionaire because I save money" thing.....BUT when we are talking about seeing your wife, family, etc.....I'm not sure how a few thousand baht is worth causing them stress.  but that's just me.  I'll spend billions on my passion and not buy a bowl a soup for 60 baht because I think it should be 40....but we are different.  my two cents.

Been in LOS for years.  Met plenty of people and about 90% do worry about money a lot more than back home.  many are spending thousands on beer and then wonder how they are in such a bad spot.  i tell them to retire they need at least 15 million at the very minimum and they are nowhere close to 1 million.  it's pretty clear that most people do come here to save money and try to live on less money.  i would say the average long-term foreigner is living on less than 60,000 a month.  it's all about surviving.  that's all they are doing. it's pretty sad but whatever.... the average thai makes around 20,000 and two earners puts them at 40,000 (medium to bigger city).  the foreigner has pressure to spend more so they will think he is in a higher class.  and the two-week millionaries really hurt their budget.  then a gf.  then a car, or kids from a previous marriage, etc.....

i agree with you that 800k is a nominal sum and even 25 year old kids can save that much; however, I've also run into many, many people from bad marriages, many kids, life issues, bad investments, etc....where they lose tens of millions of baht.  now, should they be in Thailand?  not my call, but I have a feeling it's better here than back home.   Many have also "retired" for only about 10 years and then went back to work.  life is complicated.  i stopped judging.

Right now, and without any information on any possible accumulative, more recent days in LOS, I would say you'll have no worries next year.

 

PS. A Thai work permit isn't a Thai immigration criteria; the visa (if any) is. Border running around 2016/17 suggests you may have been involved with the TEFL'ers death rattle here?

just a few months break between jobs.  WP done, border run.  then another border run for more time for the paperwork from the new school to get finished.  the border runs were in 2019 actually.  maybe like 9 months ago, i'm guessing around Feb.  but even then they really did take their time looking at the computer.....maybe it was in my head.  

hey guys, i come from a country where you pay way, way, way more if caught.  but i guess i can come here and put other lives at risk.  sweet!!  So I have been drunk driving for 10 years, almost killed 100 people, caused 10 accidents, and i was going 200 kph in a 40.  so last night the cops pulled me over and made me pay 20,000 baht!!!  yea, sure, there are schools around here and kids walking ..... but i figured driving drunk here was different because the roads here are super safe!!!  am i a good citizen, i just want my money back!!!!

after having a work permit for a few years (as well as a few border runs in-between)......should getting a tourist visa be super easy since I haven't had one in a few years?  or if they see a few tourist visas in 2016 and 2017 would that be a concern?  i'm thinking sometime next year i will get one tourist visa.  

i'm guessing the answer is.....nobody knows.  maybe, maybe not.

A lot of "had an accident and cant pay the treatment/ flight back home" auctions. If they had an appropriate insurance (which should be commonsence), no one would have those problems. But yeah, better safe this 50€ so we can have 10 beers more ???? because this wont happen to us

It's not really our job to tell people what they can or can't do with their life.  If we could, then maybe we would give them advice on everything.....eat better, go to school, buy this not that..... since we don't want people telling us (freedom), I think it's great people travel and of course things happen.  trust me, if it wasn't no insurance, it would be getting aids or something else that is bad...  so we must understand that everyone makes mistakes.  everyone does something bad, maybe goes too fast in their car, accident....etc....  so whatever.  let's realize this is life and help them through it.

In other threads, people say that these people should learn their lesson, hit rock bottom, not be helped, grow up, learn the hard way and they deserve what they get.  they will never learn if we don't allow them to get punished fully.  

Same with this drug user?    Use the same logic, meaning she will never learn if you bail her out.  she will be a druggie in the next country and expect you to help her again.  she must wake up and grow up or maybe you will be arrested with her and she will do more and more drugs.....once this dumb, will it get worse??  

Just wondering if it's the same logic here.  If loser farang gets drunk and arrested, we want them in jail forever and we condem them for all eternity.  doing drugs is worse, yes??

i think it would be great if you could report all the posts to the authorities and get their IP addresses, because i think these foreigners should be kicked out of LOS.  It only breeds hatred and should not be allowed to continue.  Please post every message you don't like on facebook and bring attention to everyone.  Let everyone see these messages and maybe it will change.  I am shocked all these bad things can continue, and should be stopped.  Every message should be reported.  Police notified.  Everyone.  Good luck.  I have reported many from Facebook and it does stop these bad people.  I send their messages to everyone of their "friends" on Facebook and they get mad at me??  why, I didn't write it.
