It is actually cheaper to get it here - £128.51 for the larger (more pages) version.

However you do need to make 2 trips to Trendy in Bangkok but if you use the bus and BTS that will set  you back less than 500 baht plus lunch.....

I did this last month and took less than 2 weeks for the new passport to get back to Bangkok.

If I had been going to the UK in time however I would also have had it done there. Did not realise the same day pickup was such a premium.

Plus you need to make a colour photocopy of EVERY page of your old pp.  This can set you back over 500 baht if you are paying 20 baht a copy.

BUT I think one of the copy shops downstairs only charges 10 baht a colour copy.

  2. I have bought my own air monitor and for the last few days the air has been remarkably clean PM2.5 reading of about 10.

This is measured on my balcony between Silom and Surawong road. If I take the monitor and measure next to a main road, the value increases by about 20 or 30, so still nowhere near as high as some other Bangkok locations.

  3. I have an air monitor that measures PM 2.5, HCHO (formaldehyde),  TVOC (total volatile organic compounds and also humidity. When I measure the air in my bedroom where I have my Hepa filter air purifier located, the PM 2.5 reading goes down to 4 or 5 but the HCHO and TVOC readings go up. The hepa filter just traps small particles but not these other compounds/molecules.

So I think that shutting off rooms and running a/c and air purifiers will lead to the accumulation of formaldehyde and volatile compounds which can also be harmful to health.

The solution may be to properly air all rooms once a day and then switch on the air purifiers to clean the small particles.

    Any thoughts?

In previous years ( Chiang Mai ) I've left the 800K baht untouched, no account activity. Never had a problem with extensions at Immigration. Can you identify branches where spending is required?

I was told that in Jomtien fixed deposit accounts were not accepted because money cannot be accessed immediately. Whether they actually check to see that there is movement in the account I am not sure. Perhaps somebody else can confirm one way or another.

  5. The TMB bank "No Fixed Account" pays interest (not much, but 1.3 pc at the mo.) and gives you a passbook which allows 2 withdrawals a month without penalty. You (should) need to take your passport and bankbook to a TMB branch to make a withdrawal so the money is relatively safe from ATM fraud. You can pay money in using cash or normal bank transfer methods.

If you want an ATM card you can open a normal savings account with TMB or another bank.

  6. I buy it at one of the pharmacies on Rama IV opposite Chula Hospital. Prices here are always the cheapest I can find anywhere. And yes a box of 28 costs 3500 baht so cannot expect to find it cheaper.

Now that someone has raised the issue of Edoxaban, there are very strong warnings about the risk of internal bleeding if you take NSAID anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofren etc together with Edoxaban. However I find that a small dose of Ibuprofen such as half or one tablet (400mg)  a day does help control my irregular heart beat episodes as well as general stiffness after running or walking too much. Considering that a normal dose of Ibuprofen can be up to 8 tablets a day I am trying to weigh up the risks of taking one tablet Ibu a day in conjunction with a half tablet of Lixiana.

    Any comments would be welcome.

  7. I have just received my new UK passport courtesy of the lovely people in the Trendy Building. Twelve days from submission to return. Plus a signed stamped letter to present to immigration.

What is the best procedure to follow now with my 90 day report due next month?

Should I do the 90 day report by letter (I have just about enough time) but would have to use my now clipped old passport, so probably not a good idea, or just head down to Chaeng Wattana and do both the 90 day and transfer of stamps with one visit. In which case should do the transfer the stamps first and then do the 90 day report in person, or is it better to do the 90 days report first with my new passport and then transfer stamps. And will I need lots of photocopies of new and old passports etc.

Any tips on how to make things as quick and painless as possible would be welcome.

    Thanks

If they are coming from the UK just tell them to bring some with them as it's better and cheaper there. Same with most other food items apart from chicken, pork, rice and mangoes.

    Good idea! Thanks

If they buy the mackerel in those vacuum sealed packs in a UK supermarket on the day of travel you will find that suitably kept cool they last a lot longer than the eat/sell-by-date. Just check the dates when you buy and pick out the latest ones. I have eaten smoked mackerel one or two weeks after recommended. You can probably also freeze the packs once they arrive in Thailand although the texture might be affected,

  9. My only complaint so far is that the blue/mauve font is a bit too 'washed out' and not so instantly readable for us oldies.....yes I know that I can brighten the colours on my monitor but I cannot have it too bright because one of my regular websites uses a bright vivid light green in its pages which causes me eye strain and headaches.

The old blue was OK and so is the black font.

    Thanks

  10. If you are making the application at Trendy Building in Bangkok, best to use one of the shops on the ground floor of Trendy. I was there yesterday and as has happened for my previous 2 passports my photos were not acceptable. This time it was because I was not 100% facing the camera, off by just a FEW degrees.

The shop only charged 200 baht for 4 photos and these were accepted OK.

Also if you haven't made colour photocopies of every page in your PP yet, the shop only charges 10 baht per page. The place I used in Silom road charged me 20 baht per page so a 200 baht difference in the end.

I used the shop nearest the lifts.

  11. I believe that Emirates has recently changed it's upgrade policy. Now they will give preference to the higher priced economy class tickets (Flex Pus over Flex and Saver).

This means than regular fliers in Saver economy will get less opportunity for an upgrade compared to the occasional Flex Plus traveller.

I do regular exercise and I am sure this helps ... .. I think one of the causes in the 1st place was over exercise .. I started crossfit but pushed a bit too hard .. now am into a regular daily exercise class but not as tough as crossfit ..

I like my wine and have cut back a bit .. Stress does not help and that is not so easy to manage ...I recently took up yoga and this can help ...It seems to be a matter of cutting out any possible causes as much as possible and trying to manage ..

Exercise though is a definite benefit as well as yoga and I think my condition would be worse if I did not keep those up .

This tends to mirror my own experience...too much exercise or physical stress and my heart starts to beat irregularly, generally when I sit down or lie down hours after completion of my exercise.

It's a bit of a Catch-22 situation, one needs to exercise to keep the heart strong, but this results it irregular heart rhythms some hours later.  My resting heart rate is 50 or lower so I do not take beta-blockers. I just take Edoxaban (Lixiana in Thailand) to mitigate strokes.

One way I have of regaining a normal sinuous rhythm is to get up and about and do some exercise, or go for a run!

The alcohol does not help so I try and avoid drinking after running or gym work. But as my cardio says: keep exercising and learn to live with it!

  13. Transferwise gives you a guaranteed rate for 24 hours. If you don't send the money to them within that time frame the rate will be cancelled and you will have to set up a new deal with a different rate.

What it does mean is that you can reserve one rate, and then wait to see how rates move throughout the day. If rates improve you can cancel that deal and set up a new one at the improved rate. But for this to work you have to be able to make an instant 2 or 3 hour transfer of funds to them when you want to accept transfer rate.

  14. May I suggest that it may be just a function of age and muscle wastage. Try practicing pelvic floor exercises (i.e pelvic-floor exercises) every day.

I now have trouble sleeping at night due to nocturnal erections, so something is working for me (I also take L-Arginine for improved heart functions).

Perhaps you're not.....but I don't think you can assume if one dies the other takes over full ownership.

I think it would have to be heirs to the deceased forming an orderly queue as normal.

This was raised in another thread regarding joint ownership. Joint ownership means that both parties own 100 pc jointly so if one part dies the other party still retains 100 pc.

was curious about your request for information.

So I sought an opinion from a lawyer on the net

    The opinion is:

For the land office and the condo act they do not each own 50% of the unit but each is entitled to 100% ownership. Their relation as co-owners is governed by the sections governing co-ownership in the civil code. So if one dies the other co-owner should be entitled to full ownership without having to comply again with section 19 of the condo act (fet form). The other owner must of course be entitled to the other half based on, for example ,a last will and having followed the correct procedure . Also being able to show the correct documents to remove the name of the  deceased from the deed. Some transfer fees and taxes would probably apply.

Just to stress -this is only an opinion and not verified

    This may help.

This is reply taken from the following thread:

If both parties own 100 pc maybe it is possible for one party to sell the property without the permission of the other....not sure!
