  1. And guess what, the day after my 'no reply from CW' post, I received my 90 day confirmation in the post this morning. That makes it 38 days to get back to me since posting. I was told that many officials at the airport are only working 2 or 3 days a week due to low arrival numbers, so being CW overworked is hardly an excuse when there are spare officials around.

Just to clarify, I always post my 90 day notification 3 days before the 15 days before report date i.e. 18 days before. But is it possible to make an online report 18 days before or is it 15 days? I have tried in the past but something always fails. Is it that I am reporting too early? If I can't notify on-line and post less than 15 days before the letter might arrive too late for them to process. So catch-22 situation.....better not risk an on-line attempt and just carry on posting?

  2. There is a now huge tree outside my condo back entrance which has come into fruit. Small round 'berries' that do not look appetising to me but have attracted large numbers of bats to screech and fly around all night starting at dusk. I looked out of my condo balcony 2 nights ago and saw a large black shape flapping past me. I have now managed to get a photo of one hanging from one of the tree branches and they are big buggers. Not like the small bats I have seen at sunset in other Asian locations. And the surprising thing is that my condo is in the centre of Bangkok, just off Silom road.

    Any bat experts out there?

  3. Can anyone recommend where I can get the UK Pension Life Certificate signed by a witness in Bangkok? I have racked my brains but can't think of anybody who can do this for me. I have read that Thai people refuse to do this sort of thing for fear of consequences.

    Obviously the cheaper the better.

    Thanks

Your using a story of one of the two women who have now also tested positive but are Asymptomatic.  The post is regarding a male who exhibited symptoms and was ill so he returned to the hospital and now has Covid-19 and is being treated for it.  Read the other reports as well.

Both these reports talk about a man who did NOT show any symptoms.  Lots of confusion in the reporting.

  5. Has anybody mentioned Rejoice Charity in the above posts? Rejoice Charity are a UK registered charity that works out of Chiang Mai.  They work with the hilltribe people, many of whom are children who have lost parents to HIV etc and do not receive help from the Thai government due to their stateless status.

Rejoice Charity does a good job and employs locals to carry out the field work.

Please check them out if you are looking for a home for your charitable contributions.

  6. Recently I have been taking my bp cuff measurements lying on my bed. It allows me more time to 'settle' myself before taking the measurement. I have found that readings are more consistent between right and left arms, and also more repeatable, maybe because I am not getting impatient as I would in a sitting position.

Are lying down bp measurements as valid as sitting measurements? Hope so because I get slightly lower and more consistent results.

  7. I would think that Lumphini area has some of the best air in Bangkok. When you consider the adjoining Chulalornkorn hospital, the Chulalongkorn University, the Royal Bangkok Sports Club , the National Stadium etc all on one side and then the Australian embassy, Alliance Francaise, Polo club, Tobacco Monopoly (with new park grounds) and Benjakitti Park etc all on the other side. This means that a huge area around Lumphini is relatively undeveloped in terms of urban living with limited road traffic. That's my take on it.

  8. I found Dr Printer on the 4th floor of Fortune Tower and they identified the problem and fixed it in an hour. Faulty sensor which they say they replaced or maybe just repaired for 900 baht. Happy with the outcome as in my desperation I was almost ready to buy a new printer as they are relatively so cheap (but with only part filled ink cartridges in some cases).

  9. Can anybody recommend a place that can try repairing my Canon Pixma printer in Bangkok

The printer is 5 years old but lightly used. I have just replaced the ink cartridges. The flashing light indicator points to a paper jam problem, but I have managed to trick the machine into working for short periods over the last year so not a paper jam. However now the indicator light always comes on at the end of the start up cycle preceded by a 1 second screeching sound. If I can get it to start up without the screeching sound it then prints OK. Except now it screeches on every start up regardless of any prodding and poking I do. Nothing on the web seems to address this problem that I can find.

Yes I can replace the printer for about 5,000 baht, but I think it is worth somebody with experience of these things taking a look at it. I reckon taking it to a Canon dealer would cost more than the printer is worth.

    Any ideas

    Thanks

  10. Small but important point: Johnnie Walker is a Scottish whisky. Whereas the spelling whiskey is used for other countries grain spirits notably the USA which produces bourbon (corn), rye, barley etc whiskey.

Not sure what this topic has to do with Thailand especially as Thai whiskey is generally distilled from sugar and should be classified as a rum.

  11. Recommend you always send mail recorded delivery (long tabien). Only (used to) costs 65 baht extra but 99+% chance of reaching its destination. I once sent 2 letters in a row to a UK address by ordinary airmail and none of them arrived.

  12. I have a history of heart palpitations and atrial fibrillation. One thing I have learnt since the Covid-19 lockdown is that putting stress on body by excessive exercise or stressful situations can stimulate my irregular heart episodes. Since lockdown I have stopped running in the park and stopped swimming, and lo and behold my irregular heart episodes have almost disappeared. I have had a few mild episodes when I experienced some stressful domestic situations.

So some of your heart problems are maybe being caused or exacerbated by the the stress and anxiety you are experiencing. That is not to say you do not have other heart issues, but reducing your stress levels can help with the palpitations....if you can do it.

Check out the effects of the vagus (vagal) nerve on the heart.

  13. Just got back from Chaeng Wattana myself. Just to add that getting a re-entry permit (valid for the length of the the extension) is now super quick. I took a number first, then rushed down to get a copy of the newly issued extension (I had copies of the other required passport pages already) and got back to see my number called already. So I got processed straight away and only a 10 min wait to get the passport back. Easy peasy!

  14. New Texas Chicken opened on Silom Road a few doors from Burger King. Hurry up, they are probably still doing an introductory 2 for 1  deal (as of last week).

And I noticed a new outlet under construction in one of the Chulalongkorn Uni sois. Opposite the Samyan Market (close to the wide open car park and geodesic dome).
