  1. I have bought beach land between Surat and NST because of the changes here over time. After living here since the early nineties I am toughly bored with the traffic, building and constant growth. I will keep a home here but intend spending more and more of my time on the beach. There is a small expat community where I am moving with more arriving, including jaded expats from Samui.

Beachfront land is still available, although not cheap (3.5-4.0 per rai) is affordable which is more than one can say about land around Phuket.

NST and Surat and even Sichon have English programs, so education seems good, I can't speak from experience as I have a high schooler in school in Phuket who will be finishing his education at his present school.

  2. Hi,

iam looking for small second hand tractor in the Nakon sri tammaratt to Surathani area and was wondering if anyone knew of any used machinery dealers or any machines going privately in this area.

Machine will only be used for tidying beach and launching a small boat so nothing large required.

I have looked at new machines in the dealership in Surathani but wondered if any members may know of any second hand machinery outfits in the area.

  3. I hope it goes ahead, will be good for the local area, Chevron are already pouring money into the local communities and this will give locals a great opertunity for there children s future

  4. Just got back from the place now... 2400 for the rope operated blinds or 4100 for the handle with winding mech..

Looks like a good outfit with proper heat presses for doing the joining etc.

Think we will go with clear and a white border !!

Will update on the quality in due course... Fingers crossed

    Where did you go?

On the by pass road, heading from Big C to Tesco. It is called P.U and is right after a place selling blue plastic drums (loads of them stacked up). Probably 5km from Big C on the left.

    Is this in surat?

  5. OK re bar has run its race

What about building walls out of hollow breeze blocks and only putting cement between the top and bottoms not at the ends of the blocks

I have seen one house here made of bricks built by a builder very rough cement work but at least it had cement all around the bricks

Pouring a concrete house pad on loose soil that has not been compacted

Making so called concrete pools out of breeze/cinder blocks which is happening but not with all builders, i certainly would not want a pool built with them

I think you will find that with concrete pools they are using blocks on the outside as formwork, the then do the rebar, formwork the inside and pour and vibrate the concrete

  6. James Bruce and Alan Reeks are the same person, used to live and operate a shop in Talang Phuket, (satthai amongst several different names) an ex patong bar owner.

He has been involved in the sat business/cardshare for years now. I have met him several times, and talked to him on phone using both names, definitely the same person.

I bought a service off him many years ago which lasted a year before disappearing.

  7. Wish you luck. thumbsup.gif

I know there are a few around, just a matter of being there when they are advertised.I believe there are a couple of people buying them up and restoring to concourse condition, but i want something i can use not just polish and admire

  8. Does anyone have any information on toyotas replacement for vigo, I have heard that it is due in 2014, anyone have any updates on that and any word on spec?

I was wanting 3.2 ranger wildtrack but with the order books closed and no orders taken before early next year maybe I would be better just to wait until the following year before replacing the present vigi?

  9. There is a spray available that you spray your garden with every month or so to get rid of ticks and lice. I started a year ago and after 3-4 applications havnt seen either since. We haven't sprayed for several months either.

Talk to the people at phuket international dog school (also a kennels) they have the spray, I purchased from them.

  10. Hi

Just been to ''Pattaya'' and i have to say, its got to be the ''Grottiest place on the planet, ''cheap,seedy,dirty''.. gosh i could go on and on..

never seen so many fat old beer bellied ''Farangs'' in all my life.

Definetly would not come back here, thats for sure..

But lots of others enjoy going there for holiday. The world would be a boring place if everyone enjoyed exactly the same things

  11. There's a bar just up the hill from the Caltrex station, on the way to Patong, on the left, football centric. Bright, modern decoration not my style, the previous owner had it done up in the tropical Thai I prefer but sadly passed of a heart attack.

The Kwangtung restaurant has a cheap and cheerful little tropical bar, on 4020 at the corner of the road that leads to the Bang Wad dam, near the Phuket Country Club.

You are talking about Players retreat, a locals bar with lots of keen golfers around. It was closed a few weeks ago when cieling callapsed after heavy rain, I believe was to reopen all repaired in 3 weeks. It is owned by the same people as the lemon tree on soi nam tok kathu.

  12. Best solution: Declare it being a parking area. whistling.gif

What limited parking is available is generally taken by the car & motorbike rentals which I assume will also become the case for the section which has just been widened. Hourly parking fees for everyone, including the rentals would surely generate more revenue regardless of how it is spent or kept. The public might then actually find a place to park on the beachfront.

I personally don't agree with people who moan about parking in Patong. There is plenty of parking in Patong it's just a 5/10 minute walk from where you want to be. (Unless you want to be in Jungceylon)

It's simple maths. Look at the size of the beach. Look how many cars would fit along it, and then look at how many people would like to park there if they could. If you can work out a way to park 2000 cars in the space for 200 cars I'm sure the governor would love to hear it.

This is exactly the same everywhere in the world. City centres and tourist hot spots never have any parking and when they do it is always rammed full with a a massive queue. I'm not sure why people would dream that a tiny, heaving tourist town like Patong would be any different.

Where is all this parking you are talking about???

Rental cars should not be allowed on the beach area, they should have booths and maybe 2 cars on display and deliver cars as they are ordered. Any increase in parks is a bonus for any of us who live locally and want or need parking when we go to Patong. Meters are also a good idea as the parks are not all taken by long term (workers and rental agencies)

  13. I agree totally, it seems to be forum wide and not only restricted to the phuket section. I have lived in thailand for many years and been a member here for several but spend very little time reading and very seldom post because there are so many negative people on the board.

There is a wealth of knowledge on here but it is very tedious looking through all the dribble and negative comments trying to find it.

  14. I'l just be sneering at you guys with the fords with little engines, as the Reals ones,(3.2) won't be found next month! Could have had one of the cheap versions, but wasn't going to comprimise! And No one still knows if the issue was fixed of the delayed accelerator, so no problem, I but new every 3-4 years, by then who knows what kind of concept will be promised and not delivered!!

....and you need 4x4 and 3.2 for....?

    Towing my boat!!!!
