Have had two cars registered in my own name with tourist visa's. One purchased with finance and no problems with either.

I too am interested in doing some fishing here. Have heard it is good but maybe someone can give some more accurate info. Also is there anywhere to launch a boat, and I have seen websites with flating bungalows, are there several of these or just the one group.
-
I was approached last month by someone near photo 4 selling a 2 rai block of land with over 100m beachfront and they were asking 1.3million per rai and would consider offers, my wife contacted others in the area and there is quite a bit of land for sale in the area and this seems to be the going rate for beachfront here at the moment.
As for the sandflies, I have been to khanom and hat nai plao many times over the last couple of years and have never been bitten or even seen one.

I will definitely drop in when I get back into town in December. A fishing club sounds like a great idea to me and I am keen to be involved.

pagallim, do you have links or information for the prefabricated house style you mentioned? I have only heard of teak houses that can be disassembled and reassembled elsewhere.
For those who don't understand my motive, I have a very specific idea about what I want and this I can not find available for rent. I want to build something cheap and not pay 30 years lease in advance.
I would appreciate to finish with the questioning of the general idea now, so please only post if you know any land rental prices in the area to compare, which was my actual question, whether the price was reasonable.
Look up the safeway website as they are building transportables on phuket. I saw one being built near the yacht haven recently for around the 600000bt, and looked like quite a good option.

Hi all, I have recently bought a small boat for fishing and island hopping around phuket and was wanting to know local ramps and costs.
So lets all get together and list what ones we know and good and bad points with each.
Ao Por Marina, 535bt
Good ramp at all tides, handy to Phang nga bay and the islands
Boat lagoon, 535bt
Looks good at high tide but as yet have not launched here, any feedback at what it is like in small boats and low water.
Rawai, public ramp
Only visited at low water and unuseable at this time, anyone used this ramp and any feedback would be welcome. Was a nasty drop at the end of conrete ramp so would need to be careful launching.
Chalong, public ramp
narrow steep ramp, as yet havnt used it but looks usable, anyone got any pointers on this ramp. Parking for car and trailer looks to be a problem here, anyone with any suggestions.
Ao Yon, possible to launch small boats off the beach here. Take care as the sand is soft near top of beach. Might be advisable to have tow rope and a 4wd is necessary.
There must be more spots out there as well, so please list them.

I have some bungalows in Kathu and they are charging 30baht per room per month, just wish they would pick up the garbage, they don't forget to pick up the money.

Try contacting this company, they may be able to answer some of your questions.

laem hin is where the boats leave for to go to Koh Maphrao, it is about 5kms on the phuket town side of the boat lagoon
-
Go to laem hin and one get one of the longtails to take you to bang id (its the name of a floating restaurant owned by a fishermans co-op) the ride is payed for by restaurant and the food is absolutely superb, fish held in nets under the raft you are sitting on, oysters still in the ocean when you order so you cant get fresher. It is only a 5 minute ride and the food is great, tho price getting up now but still cheap compared with patong seafood restaurants.

lotus, big c, makro or supercheap they all stock mayo and thousand island dressing

Been trying to get out and wet a line the last couple of weeks but the weather has been just crap. Doesn't look like improving in the near future either, heading overseas next week so hopefully the weather will be right when I get back next trip.

If you go out every night and eat at restaurants every day yes i can see how it is expensive, don't buy imported foods, do stay in more, it is that simple.
Ohh what fun.. so your advice is stay in and have a local diet only..
Some of us live here like that quite happily, I can afford to eat out at restaurants every day of the year, but enjoy home cooked thai food. Go out when I feel like it, if I was living in my native country I wouldn't be going out to restaurants much or going to the bars as often as i go here.

Go to the land office to get it sorted out, they will deal with the problem, and if he is on your land will make a ruling on what has to be done, most often he has to reimburse you for the land taken and new chanotes done
-
Sorry I don't know. Why not bring them with you and carry them thru as there is never anyone checking bags

62 million baht invested in 19000 businesses, that is only 3150bt each business. Figures dont sound right to me.
-
I'm interested to hear more about the sewage in the water in that region.
Is it a real problem? Is it only at certain beaches? Surely the whole stretch from Khanom down to Sichon cannot be polluted?
Simon
Have spent lots of time in the water around the area and certainly doesn't look polluted to me.

It is possible to pick up land like this away from tourist areas, although small blocks are hard to find. I picked up half a rai absolute beach front for 1 million near tha sala earlier this year. Good luck in your search.

Try this place in Hat Nai Plao, have stayed there 5-6 times now, last time I intended to stay at sichon and all the hotels wanted top money for empty resorts. All looking fairly tired as well. This place with bedroom, large lounge and cooking facilities. Ask about long term rental as know they have discount.

I have seen a big christian place on 200 year road down towards otop on the other side of the road

I have also been looking around at boat recently, there is not a great deal available in the lower price range.
It is possible to find new 18ft centre consoles made in thailand from 185000bt upwards, fully fitted out minus engine from 250000-350000 depending on manufacturer. There is also a Falang importing hulls from china, he also acts as a dealer for a couple of thai boat builders.
Do a websearch on Beebloo boat, a pattaya builder and they have a link to the phuket supplier who can also source chinese boats.
Also from Pattaya do a search for masterfisher.net they do a nice looking 18footer that I have seen and am thinking seriously about. Also another pattaya centreconsole builder. www.bakricono.com.
If you want to know any more pm me. I am now looking at new boats as of the second hand ones I saw there wasnt enough of a price saving to justify the risk of buying used.
Good luck on your search, and keep in touch. It is always good to meet up with a fellow kiwi.

I provide my own water in kathu. But supply water to tenants at 7.5 bt a unit, 35 bt is a rip off, I believe the highest water authority rate, to high users is in the order of 18bt a unit

Thanks Pagallim for the very informative PM's sent. The information was much appreciated, hope to see you on the water sometime soon.

Just flew in today and the airport was the busiest I have ever seen it, long queues and lots more flights on their way, so things might be looking up for those in the tourist industry
