  1. Hi all, a very good thread. I also am interested in a trailerable powerboat for use with the family and a bit of fishing. Wanting something suitable to tow across thailand and launch on the east coast so not too big. So a boat that doesnt need a marina berth or a huge viehicle to tow it, as drive a vigo.

Am out of the country at present but back in early next month. Please PM me if you know of anything suitable. Also not wanting to spend millions as is a toy.

  2. I don't understand what the problem is, the broke Malaysia's law and have to pay the consequences, I think the penalty is harsh but that is the right of the malaysian people to choose the sentances not us.

As for comments as for it was only cannabis, it was still trafficing and in excess of 18kg is not a small amount. As well the sentences in malaysia or singapore have always been harsh and if you dont like the penaltys you shouldnt commit the crime.

Basically it is som nam naa. Sorry to the familly. RIP

  3. shouldnt we execute Mr Thaksin too when he order to use REAL GUN to kill drug dealer and innnocent bystander?? Where is the human right then...

The war on drugs was bad, but I really never heard many Thais complaining about it at the time it happened. Can anyone show the demonstrations against Thaksin in 2003?

In fact most thais are worried about the present drug situation and prefer the way taksin dealt with it rather than just ignoring it as they are doing at present

  4. Thepthai: Dubai accepted negotiation on Thaksin's extradition pact

Personal Spokesperson of Democrat Party Leader Thepthai Senpong divulged that negotiations between Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) about Mr. Thaksin's extradition was now being made.

Mr. Thepthai revealed that Thailand and UAE had already started the negotiations on Mr. Thaksin's extradition. He said Dubai agreed to coordinate with Thailand in dealing with the former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had filed documents to the Embassies to explain Mr. Thaksin's behavior and the allegations against him.

Moreover, he said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also sought coordination from the International Police or Interpol to bring Mr. Thaksin back to Thailand to stand trial in the Thai juridical procedures.

When will you people realise Taksin has the majority support in the country, Why was the yellow shirts not arrested for crimes against the state over the airport siege, and government building siege, its all about money and power and corruption. Reds want democracy, Why not have a total amnesty and new elections, and all abide by the results,,, happy Songkran,,, mine was full of alcohol

Agree totally, lets keep it all fair.

  5. What a short sighted move it would be to bring Taksin back. If the government were to bring him back and try to prosecute him you would just incite the redshirts, after all they are the majority. They are just not as organised with their funding (pay rates to protesters) as the PAD. All the bad madia about the UDD, basically the didn't do anything that PAD hadn't already but now they aren't in power so won't get away with it.

If you bring him back you are guaranteed a revolution, better of to have an election and give the power to the people.

I totally agreed, do the rights thing to save more lives.

That's it. Here we go. I don't think I have to add anything else. The thing is that many Thais believe in revolution and hope in democracy and not in Thaksin...no need to tell, what is happening behind, well-informed people (especially Thais) know it.

is this thread has become stupid speak!!!!!!

Yes you have certainly become stupid speak, maybe you should change your board name

  7. I know a lot of these groups,Hells Angels,Bandidos etc are in Western Countries, and Europe but didnt think Thailand.

I dont know how the thai mafia would accept them.or the thai authorities?

However i seem to recall at once stag e a lot of bikers riding with leather jackets(colors)a few years ago in pattaya, not sure .

Thanks for the info ACECAFE,you seem to have a interest in them.

Methinks you didn't quite get my post mate....... there are literally hundreds of backpatch/colours wearing bike clubs here in Thailand but there is zero trouble....... and a lot of the Thai authorities ride Harleys too!

Yes, you will see very many leather vests with colours in Pattaya.

Me? Yeah, I have an interest in 'em...... that's me on the far left!

see ya for a couple in a few weeks spicey

  8. I have set up a desktop system using my tv, a 42inch plasma as the monitor, this is also plugged into my cable and satellite system. I download heaps of tv and movies thru torrents, the computer is plugged into the router, and play them over this system. Also run this thru my surround sound system and it is great. It is simple and foolproof and really cheap to set up.

  9. donx> We got this information from the land office. I am 99% sure I know what land Big Guy is planning to buy, yes.

At the land office we were told, that you can "see the highest tide mark" on the beach, you can see where the highest point is from sea debris, so you simply meassure 12 meters from this point onto your land.

But I will ask my wife to contact the land office again to get a clearer answer..... but you know, talking to a Thai official, getting a clear answer, is somewhat difficult :o

so, just out of curiosity sake, is a retaining wall built inside the high tide line illegal? (ie, high tide line is well past where the retaining wall is)

as far as i can understand as long as the retainin wall is on your property there is nothing wrong, the retaining wall is only there to protect your assets.

  10. In the Sichon area, also including Tha Sala, you can build within 12 meter from the highest poin of the high tide mark.

I think I know what land you're talking about.... You can build within 5 meters from the road and with the 12 meter high tide mark, it means you will be able to build on appx. 20 meter dept of the land. The highest high tide mark is appx. 12 meter from where the gras on the land begins.

20 meter should get you a nice large house, no?

Your statement seems reasonable enough to me. Did you get this information from the land department or from someone in the area that knows the local restrictions? Also, you say you know "what land you're talking about". Are you referring to the land that Big Guy is planning on buying or the land I was talking about that I was considering buying two years ago in Sichon?

Another question is how does one determine the highest high tide mark? I assume that there is probably one or a few days a year that would cause the high tide to be the highest since the tides would be based upon the position of the moon and the moon's closeness to the earth. Is there a table somewhere that provides this information?

Olsen should know what he is talking about as he has a real estate company in the area.

Thanks very much Olsen, i went to the local land office and had it confirmed that in that area there were no restrictions inside the chanoted area so all is looking good.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

  12. I am in the process of purchasing a beachfront block of land. It is chanote and the front of the land sits at the edge of the sand and beginning of the grassed area. The land is only 25 metres deep and I was wanting to know if there are any building restrictions regarding distance to the sea. The land is situated in rural Nakorn Sri tammarat.

This is a different position as am only intending to build a small holiday home as I already have a house and business over here.

Will be asking the appropriate land office prior to finalising purchase. I have found out that Phuket will not approve building permits closer than 20m to the ocean, Koh Lanta is 15m from the ocean, but so far have not been able to find out anything about Nakorn Sri Tammarrats rules. these are set locally.

I am due back down there again next week but was interested to find out if anyone had any experience of this and their restrictions if any.

When you say "20m to the ocean", is that when the ocean is at high tide, low tide, or an average of the two?

I was considering buying a piece of land which also didn't have much distance from the shore line to the other side of the property (which bordered a road). I too was concerned about the limited space. The seller assured me that this wouldn't be a problem as she owned the plot next door which was similar in size and shape. She already had plans to build on the land. I believe her plan was to get about a meter away from where the grass met the sand and she planned on building a sea wall to protect against erosion. This was in Sichon, which isn't far from Tha Sala.

The plot we ended up buying extends 100m from the beach to the access road, so we don't have the same concern as you have. Nevertheless, I'd be interested in knowing what you discover to be the legal building distance from the sea. We may end up building several structures on the property in the future.

Check out This Website and you can see some pictures that may give you an idea of how close others have built structures along the beach in Tha Sala.

The block you were looking at sounds very similar, was it in tambon klai, just north of hat chailay, woman is selling 2 blocks one of which she had been going to build on.

  13. firstly, where are you building, as thailand has different rules for different areas
When you say "20m to the ocean", is that when the ocean is at high tide, low tide, or an average of the two?

this is always marked from the coconut trees

It is in Amphur Tha Sala Changwat Nakorn Sri Tammarrat.

The plot runs from the edge of the sand back approximately 25m to a sealed road. It has a chanote title and there are several similar blocks together, already purchased by falangs I have been told.

The chanote pegs are in the ground and these sit on the edge of the grass at the top of the sand.

It is a beautiful looking plot but I need to be sure there are no building restrictions that will stop me putting a home on the block.

  15. I am in the process of purchasing a property in nakorn Sri Tammarat province, with a value of 900000bt. Transfer is to happen next week and was wondering how much the taxes will be.

I don't know the answer, but there are several variables for you to consider or at least let us know about.

For example, have you agreed to split the fees/taxes with the seller? When my wife bought land there a few years ago the seller agreed to pay all transfer fees and taxes. Addtionally, the tax paid may depend on what the land department says the land is worth. The seller may even ask you to declare a lower sales price. This is what happened to us. Another variable is how long the seller has owned the property.

Others on here may be able to provide more details, but there is also some questions regarding whether the reduced fees that were in affect for the last year have been extended. By the way, the propery my wife bought was also in Tha Sala in Nakon Si Thammarat.

This property is in Tha Sala as well, have already agreed that the selling price is to be reduced (or what the land department is told).

Was interested in knowing what the approximate liability will be as i dont know what the rules are this year.

  17. The other thing is that you can't do the test on a tourist visa. The test isn't that hard as have sat it twice over the last couple of years, also if you do fail you can just go back and sit again and again until you pass and you only pay the fee once you have passed.
