ExpressVPN using IKEV2 protocol....13 Apr/Monday/approx 1:55pm Thailand time to Seattle and London.  I'm on an AIS Fibre 700/50 plan.

how are your speeds on OpenVPN (UDP protocol)? If I use a 3rd party VPN client (SHIMO in this case) my speeds increase significantly over the xpressVPN app(S). Also, there are some squawks about the xpress desktop app doing "sneakie" things behind your back. Be aware.

Attached is a scr-shot of speed test connected to France-Strasbourg OpenVPN-udp server using macOS SHIMO client.

    Service is fiber 300/100Mbps.

Also, have u configured xpressVPN at the router level, if so, what router and what speeds did you see to US, Eu, etc?

OK. Let's see some speed tests to a European and US server that high, or even a fraction of that. Please use testmy.net, and a large data sample. Tests on this website won't be anywhere near as good as you see on Speedtest.net, but they are far more meaningful because you can see exactly how long it takes to upload or download a large data sample. Try downloading and uploading a 200 MB data sample to various servers.

I haven't done any speed tests for quite awhile, so let's have look. Don't use a VPN.

Perhaps you are downloading torrents, which is totally different thing as you're connecting to many servers at the same time. I also manage to get good speeds when downloading torrents.

here ya go. Data sample: >400MB to SEA, and >600MB to FRA. I pay for 300/100 fiber service. I access ookla via the cmd terminal on macOS.

I haven't read any contracts lately. All I remember were the contracts I read from CAT that clearly stated they cannot guarantee any speed. If that has changed now, that's good news. They will have to limit sharing.

However, the reality is that speed to international servers is slow no matter what speed your service offers. Speed to local servers is not useful for most of us.

"However, the reality is that speed to international servers is slow no matter what speed your service offers."

That's hardly the case now as it's easy to achieve 300 or 400Mbps (which is NOT slow) to US and European servers from Thailand and that's with a vpn connection. And that's with 300/100Mbps fiber service.

OP installed the VPN in order to switch location in order to get Netflix programs for ie. USA or any other country.

Many series or movies available in USA are not available in Thailand due to licensing restrictions.

@OP: depending on where you want to switch your location (phone, laptop, android smart TV), the procedure is different and requires fiddling with the setup of DNS in order to convince Netflix that you changed the country.  Lot of videos in YouTube about that, Google is your friend...

But as others said.. a VPN "only" to circumvent licensing issues with Netflix is kind of stupid, a VPN is about privacy and security.

"stupid", maybe for you it is stupid. Circumventing geo-blocked streaming content is a huge issue for foreigners in Thailand and other locations.

"Only" banned from 6 PM to 6 AM (so far).

Combined with the general rules more than strange.

Allowed now 11 AM to 2 PM and 5 PM to 6 PM.

Got a panic call from a friend in Jomtien yesterday after his wife called him from Bangkok and falsely claim that there is a nationwide ban from April 10 to 20

Seems that the chonburi alcohol ban IS 24 hours now. ALL alcohol sales are banned in Chonburi until APRil 30. Anyone confirm this?

Ah, here it is, the official notice:

  6. Yes, I starting having buffering problems with iptv on true internet as well. I tried everything I could think of but it is not performing well at all. My overseas connections have really slowed down as have connections to Europe as well.

Could be bandwidth issues due to very high usage demand currently occurring worldwide. I have a ToT connection as well and it is performing as usual with no performance degradation.

what port settings are you using and what vpn and settings are u using?

Thanks i84teen. If I buy a router to connect to PON I can connect my other TV with WiFi and access Netflix online? What do you mean by bridge mode? Although I can connect PCs, iPad, mobile to WiFi, somehow True TV box detects that I am trying to connect another TV and blocks it. Happy to dump True TV as I do not understand Thai at all and only watch Netflix.

    Hello,

Ok, never mind about bridge mode for now, can talk later about that.

For now, disconnect the True cable box, the HDMI, the ethernet cable, coaxial, everything, and switch it all off. Keep the modem/PON and router (if you have a separate router) connected and make sure you have internet connectivity on your laptop, other devices etc and NOW connect the second smart tv to wifi. See if that works, if it does then maybe the tv box IS interferring with the wifi (but I highly doubt it).

If you do not want the true tv box, be sure to leave it disconnected since it can really slow your internet speed.

Can you show photos of all the true equipment you have, the PON, router, TV box and lets see what we can do to resolve this issue.

That happened to me but luckily I was back in the UK and able to supply it. If they think you're not resident in the UK they can suspend your account. Anything can trigger this such as you not using a VPN to login, numerous overseas transfers or multiple payments made for service outside of the UK

I just transferred my UK current account to Revolut. Solved the problem. Identity checks are all done via the secure phone app. I do all my UK banking via that now and have done for the last 3 years. Plus I hold accounts in Euro, THB, US Dollar, INR and HKD so I avoid the high exchange rate costs when I get cash from the ATM or make local purchases with my Revolut Visa card.

I see, it appears that you have solved your UK banking woes. Maybe phetphet can go this route as well. Banking in/from Thailand can be like the special olympics as anyone can attest to.

Paid for then ?  mag is (supposedly) one of the best IPTV boxes..m3u  can be used with other boxes/software to watch IPTV (which you know of course)

A VPN may be required to view the channels ? ???? ( no relevance just asking about the IPTV)

oh yeah. I have never tried a MAG box and don't care to. Some of the homies in my village have MAG subscriptions and I use a mag to m3u "converter" to brute-force the login details of their subs.

Sure wish some folks using NordVPN would post some speedtest.net tests.  Say to Seattle using the Wowrack server like I used in my tests above for Pure and Express.    Preferably using OpenVPN UDP protocol but using any other protocol (OpenVPN TCP, IKEV2, L2TP, PPTP, etc) would be OK.   This way we can get closer to apples-to-apples comparisons since there can be major speed differences between the various VPN protocols....like OpenVPN TCP is usually significantly slower than OpenVPN UDP although a TCP connection is usually going to give a more reliable/error free connection than UDP.

Would really like to see what NordVPN users get in connections "from Thailand" to the US, Europe, etc.  All these VPN reviews we read are usually testing within the US or Europe....or local VPN connections.  But for us folks in Thailand we would like to know what speeds a person gets "from Thailand" to the US, Europe, etc.

This is a speed test to a virtual vpn server with a thai IP address but physically located in Singapore using IKEv2 protocol. ISP provides 300/300Mbps fiber connection. My speeds routinely exceed ISP speed pkg on both TRUE and ToT services while connected to IKEv2.

If and when the flights are allowed back into Thailand what do you reckon the prices will be? only last week Phuket back to Manchester 4000 grand one way

singapore to LA/SFO/ SEA, for May departures are nice and cheap, less than $1000 for econ, 3 grand for business. UK to bkk is less than 500 pounds for may departures.

I did not say I was confused. Perhaps you confuse me with some other poster.

The translation provided was "People of all nationalities are to wear masks when outside their homes and places of stay."

Our mooban is in many ways an extension of our homes. We own the streets and sidewalks, we pay guards to restrict access. We walk around to stretch our legs, keep a polite distance as we pass. I just wondered if I take off my mask for a moment while I'm watering the lawn, am I gonna get pounced on by some self-righteous jack*ss.

unless you live on a gated and guarded compound (similar to one on the Walking Dead show) that does NOT ALLOW any visitors then you should be wearing a mask for EVERYONES benefit. Time to grow some common sense.

    Thank you Pib.

Do you think my  issue  is due to slower connection speed?    I generally have only between 65  to 90 download.

Your speed results to SEA from Thailand are good, (to be expected from ExpressVPN) and the results from PureVPN seem normal for them, I tried PureVPN, they were terribly slow compared to other services.

What speeds are you getting on the Thailand VPN servers? I have a 100/50 ISP line and I usually get less than 5Mbit on all servers except for Thailand #11 which seems to be faster. I have attached two screenshot as an example, the one with 14.31/11.07 is the Thailand #11. All other servers show incredibly slow speeds as on the other pic, regardless of which device or protocol I am using.

P.S.: I manage to max out my bandwidth when being connected to servers in Singapore or Hongkong so it must be an issue with the Thailand servers.

    I would appreciate your feedback.
