Correct, though old passport is rendered invalid by the issuance of a new one, the (Thai) immigration stamps are still valid until their expiration date. To make life easier on all concerned (including the bank teller) that is if you care to, then do the stamp transfer at your earliest conveniences. In any event, that needs to be done prior, or at the same time of your next immigration formalities requirement (extension, 90 day ect.) Think of this like moving your furniture to your new house.

@biervoormij @BillyJaye The hassles trying to get to places such as Phanom Rung. We were trying to go from Phimai to Phanom Rung but the post-covid infrastructure around the country has definitely shrunken down, so no such luck. Like the old saying goes, "one door closes another opens..." one of us (not me) has volunteered to go learn driving/getting driver licence for motosai! By our MO, it's gonna be hard to have any driver/guide accommodating us without asking exhorbitant price...If it took us 4 days to do Phimai, I'm sure for Phanom Rung we are going camp out somewhere nearby or getting there and back by ourselves. So DIY touring is the way to go. Thank you for the suggestion/encouragemen!

One question regarding dairy. So you ate dairy product but not milk (fat or nonfat)? My guy drinks lot of full fat milk, hardest thing to weane him off, even above rice. He would give up rice but not milk.

I just want to send out a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has put in helpful advice and enlightened me in the process about diabetes. As mentioned earlier, my dad was a diabetes sufferer as well and because I was providing him care over long-distance, the effects did not really stick to my memories, but that was over 20 years ago and just like with accounting, something you have learned summarily but didn't have much practice with, you end up kinda forgetting about the abc of it as time goes by. My partner being Thai, benefits from the "30 baht health care scheme." But since I'm now involved with direct care over his predicament, we will go the "after-hour" visiting route and hope will be seen by the more experienced physicians.

Not "tiny" neither "maybe." And on the average Hollywood tends to employ more gorgeous women than in foreign films, (or having maids/secretaries living in sumptuous quarters or having soldiers on the front wearing uniforms freshly dry-cleaned.) But I don't want to hijack this thread so shall stop here.
-
The reason: Gorgeous actress are harder to cast, of higher "maintenance" and usually to be blunt, don't act to well (not necessarily I might add.) Cast Robbie as a housemaid and the audience expects her to engage in some bodice-ripping shenanigan. Whereas Melissa McCarthy can do comedy/action and even serious drama (I forgot the title of the movie in which as a failed NY writer she forged correspondence with famous dead writers and sold off the fake letters to collectors to make a living. Put Robbie in that role and the audience would sit up and ask: What?)

One point I really want to make to my fellow 7162 "sufferers" is that there are too many moving targets in this endeavor, we don't have to pull our hair out by second guessing what's going over there whenever the "dead or alive" season comes around. Just do the mail bombarding. Send them 2, even 3 copies each time, 59 baht a shot and surely at least one would get there as quickly as US-postally possible. For both June and September mailings. For extra fuzzy feelings, register one of them for 355 baht. Then sleep soundly at night. If/when we get a check cutoff notice in November (or January?) because they haven't heard back from us, despite our efforts, then just call SSA directly. I've done that, though not regarding 7162, and it's not hard.

@Pib Here we go! Thanks Pib :=) - was trying to insert a smiling emoji but none to be found....
-
Just one small favor, how do you get those member names in blue in your post? I want to do that but at a loss... thanks
-
At this point in time, regardless of what you do (including doing nothing) you will likely receive the 2nd request slated for September. If I were you I would do this, send your response to this 1st request that you just received, actually one + one copy, mailed separately of course, via regular ie non re-gistered, airmail. Total cost would be 2x 59 baht. Make sure in the Note box in the back page of the form, tell them that if they have received one copy just like this one already, then disregard this one. The strategy is that one of the two would not get lost and will arrive in an expedient manner. Come September, if/when you receive the 2nd letter, do it all over again as above. The only variation for each instance of mailing would be 1 regular + 1 registered, the latter one would cost you 355 baht but it would reach them rain or shine, albeit would take quite a bit longer and the tracking might never tell you about the final outcome.

None daily. No home use kits, we so far had nothing, even an occasional "insulin" crisis only had us rush to the nearest 7-11 for something to tide him over and that's it. In short we were in denial regarding the gravity of diabetes.
-
Thanks for the input. After reading many others, I'm now hoping we won't have to go down this route.
-
Yeah, that's more or less my partner's behavior, despite having me as a proponent of healthy eating/living. Anything that is flavorful to my farang palate is totally flavorless to his Thai one, thus piling on the sauce and the fat. But he's wakened up to the facts now, and that's a good start. Glad to hear that even with type 2 (truth be told, I'm still in the dark of how many levels of diabetes there are...) you can still get out of. We go see specialists 1st thing after the holidays (see my reply to SheryL above.)
-
Thanks SheryL for your helpful advice and info, as always. Yes he's got the "30 baht" scheme. We are thinking of going to the big hospital "Ramathibodi" near Victory Monument (bkk) first thing after the holidays. Unfortunately we are at the start of the 6 day holidays affair so it doesn't look like good time to go during this period.
-
Absolutely. I myself should know better. My dad died of kidney (and whatever else organ) failures, complications which could be detected back to his long-term diabetes. The old man was stubborn and unfortunately I was not near him to take matter into my own hands. Now I have another family member seemingly on the same destructive path. I've been indulgent to my partner, who is also of the stubborn kind, so we had let the matter slide until we can't deny it any longer.

This the reason why navigating forum conversation could become such a tiring affair. It didn't need to be so. My "limb amputation" was means as sarcasm to your citing circumcision as a "strange way of dealing with diabetes." But unlike spaghetti, sarcasm doesn't always stick to wherever you aim. My point is, nothing is strange when it comes to life saving solution, as Jingthing has pointed out. Amputating the lady leg when it got stuck in the airport walkway is definitely a strange way to get her out of it, but it seemed the only way at that juncture. 'Your partner obviously does not want to give up the "yummy" and another issue may be the lack of proper educated doctors if you don't live in a proper city.' This is correct, partner does/did not want to give up the yummy and he has an indulgent partner in myself so that's a tragedy. Re doctors, the clinic he goes to for physical health is the kind of hole-in-the wall neighborhood clinic when the caliber of physicians are not the choice kind. But it's cheap and generous with prescriptions. That's in itself is another tragedy <mild sarcasm>.
-
Again another wild assumption. Let me repeat, if you have something helpful to say, please do so. Otherwise stop judging people when they are in extremis. Have some tact.
-
I only know that in the states circumcision is a rather mundane routine so there wasn't much debate about it. But we're not in Kansas anymore...
-
Yes, and yes and yes. In a way we've been kinda ignoring the elephant in the room and he would rely on pills rather than change diet (see my other posts before this one). But now the problem has reached the critical so it's do it or die time he feels, which is a good start. Will report back after taking a good look at the video.
-
Totally on point. He does not have a primary doctor. Every 3 months or whenever his blood pressure/diabetes pills run out he would go to the neighborhood clinic (in Odum Suk) and be seen by which ever doctor on hand that day. He would have an "insulin" mini crisis now and then when out and about and suddenly he would need to eat something (sweet or not) real fast and we just rush to the nearest 7-11 to grab it. I know that seemed rather precarious but he's a big guy and we just thought he would need to eat more often (than someone average like me.)
-
He has volunteered to give up rice and noodles. Also sweets (cake, khanom thai, etc.) Plus real sweet fruits, such as mango (maybe I should cross out papaya and guava as well). Right now we try to eat the not so sweet fruit, but still not sure whether that means anything?
-
Will try this diet 1st thing. Fortunately we don't consume alcohol.
-
Will try your "gauze/betadine" treatment as a stop-gap measure while getting things under control (doctor, diet, etc.) One thing is that lately we have started going swimming for exercise. Should my partner stop that for now - I'm thinking of the chlorine in the pool water?
-
Absolutely and my partner always had to have those otherwise eating it plain (more like my style) would be "flavorless" to him. Regarding fruit, at his last check up the clinic doc asked him what he ate lately that his measure has come up high. He told her we been drinking mango smoothie lot lately so she said stop. (sorry have to go out now, but will resume later in the evening, thank you for the advice, much appreciated.)
