About 15% of Thai high school students are at risk of suicide, according to findings from the Bureau of Mental Health Service Administration. The department has recently completed an assessment of the mental health of more than 130,000 students aged under 18. The findings show 56.31% are “normal”, 9.18% are listed as vulnerable to depression and 15.86% are prone to harming themselves or committing suicide. Dr. Dusadee Juengsirakulwit, a director of the department, explained that the main cause of the students’ mental health problems is that they worry about their studies and could not adapt to studying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to known problems such as bullying by classmates and conflicts with the elders in their families. He said that, normally, between 3 and 4 million Thai people are regular online football gamblers. During the World Cup, however, that number is expected to climb by about one million, 13% of whom will be youths. From his experience in the efforts to stop gambling during the last World Cup four years ago, Thanakorn admitted that, since gambling has migrated to online platforms, monitoring and control have become more difficult. New edict tightens controls on non-medical use of cannabis in Thailand The Ministry of Public Health has issued a new edict to tighten controls on the use of cannabis for commercial purposes, research, study and export. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1277561-new-edict-tightens-controls-on-non-medical-use-of-cannabis-in-thailand/ -
The Ministry of Public Health has issued a new edict to tighten controls on the use of cannabis for commercial purposes, research, study and export. The new edict, which comes into effect today (Saturday), supersedes the one issued on June 16th, which was widely criticized as being too lax and open to abuse. Under the new edict, only the cannabis flower bud is classified as a controlled herb and whoever wants to conduct research, study, export, sell or process it for commercial purposes must obtain an official permit and comply with the conditions. Sale of the controlled herb in any form to students, people under 20, pregnant women or breast-feeding mothers is prohibited. Sale through vending machines or for smoking in business premises is banned, unless the sale is by medical practitioners, traditional medicine practitioners or certified rural medics. All forms of advertising for commercial purposes are prohibited. The controlled herb cannot be sold in public parks, amusement parks, temples, places of worship or hostels. Picture: Siam Rath A teacher called Phen at a school in Buriram has appealed to the media for justice after a colleague at the school attacked her with a knife. Phen was slashed at with a "sparta" knife and punched and had her hair pulled as two female colleague tried to help her. The attack on November 3rd was caught on tape and widely reported in the media. The assailant was a man called Khiaw a fellow teacher in charge of budgets. Phen said she was still too scared to go into school and denied claims made by the school director that she is a relative of the assailant. Both her and Khiaw have families and are married. She said that when he said "When are you going to end it - when are you going to stop?" it was not about a love triangle. She imagined it was to do with investigations taking place by the NACC (National Anti-Corruption) commission into the activities of the school director. The NACC had been at the school and interviewed all the staff over the allegations. Phen said she was not the one who instigated the investigation, it could have been anyone. She said that Khiaw used to be in the finance department of the school and was now in charge of budgets. She claimed he had used a knife in a previous incident in 2020. Picture: Siam Rath She wants a full investigation by the Education Ministry. Siam Rath said that yesterday local education officials were at the school - Sakae Phrong Anusorn in Muang district of Buriram. While Phen is still on leave, Khiaw was also not at the school. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Sanook Thai Caption: Husband follows - Wife nearly dies Sanook reported on a story that was featured on the popular news/variety show "Reuang Lao Chao Nee" yesterday morning. It featured three protagonists all given fictitious names due to the "delicate" nature of the subject matter. There was Ying, 33, the wife, A, 42, her husband and B, 39, Ying's "close friend". It was clear they meant lover and that it was a case of marital infidelity. A had suspected his wife of having an affair so he'd secretly put a GPS tracker on his wife's phone. When she started to be on the move he gave chase from Chanthaburi in eastern Thailand. He caught up with the couple at the services on the Chonburi motorway heading into Bangkok. Then the chase really heated up as B realized he was being hunted down by his mistress's husband. Ying wanted him to stop and she wound down the window but B raced off and eventually hit the kerb at a bend in the road near the Bang Wua toll booth. The white car did a somersault and ended up in a roadside ditch. He ran off leaving his mistress to die. The husband A arrived on the scene and helped his wife and stopped another motorist so that the police and rescue services could be called. B was found a kilometer away with a head injury. Investigations into the crash continue. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
