The Faculty of Communication Arts at Chulalongkorn University and the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communications at Thammasat University have issued a joint statement opposing a proposal, from the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), seeking the use of 1.6 billion baht from the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Research and Development Fund for Public Interest (BTFP) to buy the rights to live broadcasts of World Cup 2022 in Thailand. The NBTC board is scheduled to consider the SAT’s proposal at its meeting on Wednesday. Associate Professor Dr. Preeda Akarachantachote, dean of the Faculty of Communication Arts, said in the joint statement that the use of the fund for World Cup 2022 live broadcasts would be against the objective of the BTFP, because it does not contribute to promoting the development of communications resources, research or development of broadcast media. Picture: Sanook Muang Buriram police in north east Thailand were called to the village of Ban Thai Yong after two pick-ups collided and a young child was injured. One of the pick-ups - a Nissan - was propelled into the front of a shop and hit a stone table that hit and crushed a four year old boy. The boy died in hospital. The driver of the Nissan - adapted to carry cows and buffalos - fled in the confusion. At the hospital Sanook reporters found a pitiful scene with a distraught father and mother and a five year old girl crying. The mother of the children said that at about 8am she had been braiding her daughter's hair at the table while feeding her four year old boy. Out in the street a Ford Ranger had been involved in a collision with the Nissan. She saw that second vehicle coming and pushed her daughter out of the way but she was unable to help her son who was knocked unconscious by the table that smashed and crushed him. Her husband rushed the boy unconscious to hospital and despite CPR doctors were unable to save him. She said that the driver of the pick-up looked drunk and offered no help or apology before disappearing. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Sanook Thai Caption: Whipped by employer An employee of an organic ganja farmer in the north east of Thailand appealed to Sanook after he was beaten by his boss for damaging his crops. Bunsong or Tor, 31, showed the press his wounds inflicted by a beating and being whipped with electrical cord. Though he has made a police report with the Lahansai police in Buriram he feared no justice because the owner is a person of influence. He said that on Wednesday last week three burly men had abducted him from his house and taken him to the plantation owned by Nanthin "Sak" Phanya, 46. His boss claimed that he had put acid on the plants - something he admitted fearing an even worse beating. It wasn't true. Reporters went to find Sak who is in the same village in Khok Wan. Sak said that he had studied organic weed farming for a long time and had invested money in 2,000 plants on two rai of land expecting to make 10 million baht profit after the government lifted restrictions. But he discovered that the plants were not growing as they should so he conducted tests on them and water in a tank and found acidity associated with chemicals used in latex production. He said that Tor had admitted he was responsible and that he got what was coming to him. He said he'll suffer the consequences of the attack according to the law. He said he only employed Tor because he was a fellow villager but after that he had been late for work and seemingly unconcerned about his salary. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
