  2. Daily News Thai Caption: Causing yet more trouble A mental patient with a crazy history of weird stunts in Bangkok was allowed to go home by the police after he grabbed Progressive Movement party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit by the neck at a bookfair. Then he startled fairgoers by announcing that he had a bomb. The assailant was Kanetpitsanuthep Jakkapopmahadeja. Known in the Thai media by his moniker of "Kay Roi Lan" (Hundred Million K) his list of weird stunts is as long as his name. A while back he brought the area outside Central World to a standstill after attacking himself and releasing half a dozen cobras. Various media have said he is an eccentric involved in real estate. Closer to the truth it might be said that he is a wealthy man who is mentally ill displaying macabre behavior involving superstitious beliefs scaring the wider public. In most countries people shouting "Bomb!" in a public place would not result in bail. In this case the police took K Roi Lan to hospital for a mental health evaluation. His son turned up to say he would continue treatment at home and he needn't be admitted. Doctors agreed and the assailant and his son went home. The assailant has to report to police again on November 8th when he will be taken to court. He faces a month in prison and/or a 10,000 baht fine for causing public panic. Thanathorn through a rep added a charge of assault. Whether that will be deemed common or serious assault will be up to medical reports. The organizer of the event at the Sirikit International Convention Center is set to make several charges of their own. And Lumpini police are considering taking legal action against the family or the assailant's carers re their custody of a mental health patient. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-25 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News reported that Bang Poo police in Samut Prakan, south east of Bangkok, received a report that a large crane had collapsed at a construction site onto electricity wires. It happned in Soi 11 at the industrial estate. They found a 60 ton crane toppled into the street at a building site for a factory. It had brought down ten power poles. A Vigo pick-up was under the arm of the crane. Picture: Daily News Two other vehicles in the area were damaged but there were no deaths or injuries on this occasion. 8. Daily News Thai Caption: Upstanding citizen Daily News reported on another case that drew praise for an upstanding citizen. It was no surprise that it was another Bangkok cabby. Guy Jumsak, 46, had given a lift to Patcharee Thanwarakit from Banglamphu to the southern bus terminal. But the lady was in a hurry to return home to Prajuap Khirikhan and forgot her shoulder bag in the cab. Guy said that he was 2 kilometers away when he glanced back and saw a bag on the floor. Picture: Daily News On discovering that it contained 60,000 baht in cash he hunted for ID but there was none. So he called FM91 to report his find and then took the money to their HQ in Pahonyothin. The passenger too had reported her loss to the same station and the owner and her property were soon verified and reunited. Picture: Daily News Patcharee praised Guy who had turned her tears to a feeling of admiration for his honesty. Guy said he would never contemplate taking anything that wasn't his. He'd once handed in 6,000 baht to the Bang Sao Thong police but that was the extent of his experience. He has been a cabby for 15-16 years and despite poor health, a recent case of Covid, and general life difficulties, he said it was always best just to hand in anything one found. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-25 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 10. Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath carried a report from Muang district of Krabi in southern Thailand after a man survived 6 hours floating in the sea in an old tuu yen or fridge. Anat Masosot, 33, went out in his long tail boat to fish in the area of Koh Lao Hang near Koh Hong. It was a lovely day but the weather soon changed and the swell increased dramatically. Anat was caught by a large wave side on and capsized. His boat started sinking slowly before his eyes as he struggled for what to do in the water. His only option was an old fridge that he used to store caught fish that was floating. He swam over to and grabbed the fridge before clambering inside and floating for six hours until he was rescued by other fishermen. Anat said he was thankful to be alive but he was thinking about his boat at the bottom of the sea, that's his livelihood. Meanwhile the local phu yai ban Somsak Tebbut in Nong Talay was helping out with getting benefits due to Anat. A search had been mounted for the boat but had so far not found it. Other members of the community were rallying round with donations for one of their own. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-25 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 14. Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath reported that the Bang Len police in central Thailand went to a rented address in Naraphirom sub-district where there were reports of a domestic dispute. Next to a sewing machine outside they found Kansinee, 16. She had severe facial bruising. Her right index finger was in plaster. Her right pinkie was covered in bloodstained paper. Kasinee explained that she and her husband were involved in an ongoing argument over the long weekend that culminated in violence. The previous evening as part of the argument she said that she had severed her own finger to prove to her husband, 22, that what she was saying was the truth. She then put the severed digit in a plastic bag and stored it in the freezer. When the police arrived and she showed them it had melted and it was deemed unable to be reattached. She was nonetheless given first aid at the scene and taken to Nakhon Chaisri Hospital. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-25 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 16. By Thai PBS World’s Business Desk After wavering uneasily for months, Thailand’s telecom regulator, on October 20, gave the green light for the merger of two major operators — True Corporation (True) and Total Access Communication (Dtac). Despite strong protests from the academic community and civic groups, who fear it would lead to market monopoly and adversely impact other businesses and consumer interests, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) voted 3:2 to allow the merger. The move has heightened the hot debate on whether the majority of commissioners had failed to do their duty properly, as they believed they did not have the authority to approve or reject the proposed merger. NBTC’s minority voices Some NBTC commissioners have raised several reasons to oppose the merger. Pirongrong Ramasoota, one of the commissioners who voted against the merger, cited seven reasons, which she posted on her Facebook page after the vote. She had argued before the vote that True Move H Universal Communications (TUC) had a 31.99 percent of the mobile phone market and Dtac Trinet (DTN) had 17.41 percent. The merger would lead to a high market share of 49.40 percent, resulting in the new entity — along with AIS — creating a duopoly. But despite the big bust it was the registration plates that were of great interest. The vehicle was fitted with a remote that could change the rear plate in under 3 seconds to fool police. It revolved. Picture: Siam Rath Pol Maj-Gen Achayon Kraithong, police spokesman, said that the bust was on the orders of Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat, RTP chief. Three arrests were made. 20. By Thai PBS World’s Political Desk A little-known activist and self-declared red shirt earned media headlines – as well as praise from some government critics – by assaulting Thailand’s “complainer-in-chief”, Srisuwan Janya, last week. The incident also triggered a heated debate on social media over whether it was justified to physically attack someone for their “annoying habit” of lodging frequent complaints of a political nature. That was the excuse given by Veerawich Rungruangsiriphol after he violently assaulted Srisuwan on October 18 at the Technology Crime Suppression Division. The man whom Thai media have nicknamed “complainer-in-chief” was giving an interview to reporters before submitting his petition asking police to charge stand-up comedian Udom “Nose” Taepanich for allegedly inciting street protests during his “Deaw 13” show. The party from all over Thailand that included business people and female civil servants were all invited by Chumporn furniture dealer Thanom, 58. He was proudly going to show off his province with a tour and a fancy dinner for the participants. But after the gusest had arrived and well after 36,000 baht deposit had been made for seven rooms the resort announced at 10pm that they could not fulfil the booking. The resort owner claimed it was an electrical problem. Thanom went with his lawyer Jarin Kongma, 56, to the Pak Nam Chumphon police whose call to the resort to get them to repay the money got instant dividends. Picture: Siam Rath But Thanom said it was a deplorable situation that need to be addressed by the local TAT who should inspect hotels on their patch. One of the tourists called Patiphat said he had come from Chiayaphum and it was a more than ten hour drive. They had no idea where they would be able to stay as the beach was out of the question. The owner of the resort put the phone down claiming another incoming call when reporters questionsed him about this happening before.
