Sanook Thai Caption: 1,000's all over the road A woman called Suphonthip told Sanook how she had given her truck driver in a ten wheeler 100,000 baht to buy cassava in Khon Kaen. Unfortunately the driver left the money in a packet on the footplate leading up to his cab and drove off. Outside a "laab" stall on the Nam Pong to Ubonrat Dam Road the money flew off and was run over by a Honda Jazz scattering it in all directions. A family and another good Samaritan were filmed on social media collecting the cash for the owner. Picture: Sanook It was only realised later that the money was missing. Suphonthip said she was following the truck and there was suddenly a long traffic jam. She thought there'd been an accident. Little did she know it was her cash that was causing the jam up ahead. She hoped that if anyone finds the missing 8,000 baht they would please hand it in to the Nam Pong police. She thanked the good Samaritans and said she wouldn't be taking action against her driver. He was mortified about what happened, punishment enough. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Get tough RTP chief calls to ban Chinese drug taking tourists for life! Fallout from the raid in the Yannawa police jurisdiction in Bangkok that found 104 Chinese drug taking tourists - and opened several large cans of worms - continued in the Thai media. Siam Rath reported that the Yannawa station chief had been ordered to report for paper shuffling at Met Region HQ 6 while an investigation into dereliction of duty takes its course. As far as the Chinese tourists are concerned Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat, RTP chief, said the force has the power to not only deport them but blacklist them for life. Damrongsak said he had more tough measures to come under PM Prayuth Chan-ocha's crime drives. ASEAN NOW notes that Damrongsak may have a lot more on his plate than banning a few Chinese tourists. Claims are whirling around the Thai media that the illegal business in Yannawa is the tip of a "Zero Dollar" iceberg. Firebrand former MP Chuwit Kamolwisit has arranged a dossier of allegations for poster boy cop Big Joke to investigate; these center on allegations that state officials are being bribed to allow illegal tourism activities. Chuwit claimed that the Chinese could leave their drugs behind the counter for next time like people leave whisky at a club. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. All provincial administrations have been ordered to submit a list of suspected drug dealers and addicts in their respective provinces to the Ministry of Interior by the end of this month. The information will be added to its main database, for use in developing effective measures to deal with all aspects of the drug problem. Interior Permanent Secretary Suttipong Juljarern said yesterday (Wednesday) that all provincial administrations have also been instructed to provide updates about the drug situation on weekly basis and to hold discussions periodically with people’s networks on rehabilitation programs for drug addicts and on the prevention of drug abuse. To begin with, he said that all provincial administrations must conduct random tests of their staff, to find out how many are addicted so that they can be sent for rehabilitation. Sanook Thai Caption: Child harem raid! "Sia P." The police in Udon Thani followed up on the case of a 14 year old Thai girl with British heritage who was said to be sleeping with a rich businessman in the area. That person is now being called "Sia P". In latest news the 14 year old is back at home. But police obtained a search warrant and went to the 55 year old's house in Soi Sammakhee 6 in Ban Chan, Muang district of Udon Thani. A young girl answered the door and Sia P soon turned up. He was served with the search warrant. There were two fifteen year olds in an air-conditioned room where there were two packets of condoms and a bottle of booze next to a flatscreen TV, reported Sanook. A bedroom was set up as a studio to take pictures and films. Sia P painted a picture that he was running some kind of home for stray children. Runaways and disastisfied kids were welcome at his door, he said. But no boys. They would only create trouble with the girls. So he would only invite girls to come. The two 15 year olds said they had come of their own volition. The old man was nice to them and had not laid a finger on them. As for Sia P he said that he loves children and any pictures that he may have taken were for his own use. He claimed to have never interfered with children. The elder sister of one of the 15 year olds, M aged 17, outlined a very different story. She spoke of visitors to the house having to sleep naked with Sia P. If the girls refused they were made to watch him having sex with other girls all while being filmed. M said that Sia P paid the girls 1,000, 1,200 or 3,000 baht a time for sex. Police took three cameras, 20 memory cards, three computer notebooks, one computer and 15 phones into evidence. They said there was a very large amount of still and video evidence on the devices. The two girls have been taken into care. Sia P is in custody on charges of possession of illegal pornography and depriving a parent or guardian of a child. Charges may be upgraded as the investigation proceeds. The suspect denies breaking the law. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. "I'll look after the money, it's safe with me" - cop tells aggrieved woman after bank transfer blooper Daily News Thai Caption: Investigative committee set up Mysterious goings on have been reported at Pratunam Chulalongkorn police station. Daily News Thai Caption: Investigative committee set up Mysterious goings on have been reported at Pratunam Chulalongkorn police station. And now a cop with the rank of "inspector" is being investigated. It began when Mayuree, 34, received 37,000 baht in her bank account from a man called Chutiphon, 26. He had got the number wrong by one digit on Prompt Pay. He called Mayuree who went to the police to report the matter and would have returned the money herself. But at that point at the police station a helpful officer appeared who said that he needed to look after the money for a night as the investigation was continuing. He said it would be safe with him and not to worry, he'd send it all back to the original owner directly after that. Picture: Daily News However, two weeks later and the money was still with the "inspector" leading Mayuree and her husband Chusak, 36, to go to the online help group Sai Mai Tong Rort in northern Bangkok. Daily News reported that the couple met with Pol Col Apichart Thongphae, the station chief, who was setting up a committee to investigate. Picture: Daily News Initial reports suggested that the inspector is claiming that he'd been busy and hadn't had time to return the money. Mayuree is aghast that she found herself being sued by the owner of the money after she handed it over to the police in good faith for safekeeping. ASEAN NOW suggests there may be a valuable lesson there. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Thai Rath Former MP and TV presenter Chuwit Kamolwisit appeared at a press conference at a Bangkok hotel with a brown envelope with the name of Gen Surachate Hakpan printed on it. That's the top cop known universally as Big Joke. Inside was a dossier on what Chuwit called Zero Dollar pubs. He claimed they are operating in Rachada, Suthisan, Huay Khwang, and Rama 2 in Bangkok as well as Pattaya, reported Thai Rath. Picture: Thai Rath This followed a drug bust of a large group of Chinese tourists in three buildings in the Yannawa area of Bangkok. Chuwit said the clientele at these places is 100% Chinese. The owners are Chinese. Everthing is imported from China for them including Chinese cigarettes and Chinese liquor. State officials are paid off to turn a blind eye. There are Chinese girls serving. The Chinese are running casinos too. All these claims were in the brown envelope that he was handing to Gen Surachate. He had already called him and the general was willing to investigate his claims. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Thai Rath The purchase of a brand new Toyota Vigo pick-up for a lady called "B" was quite normal. She went to a large showroom in Taling Chan and got a red bow to go with her red plates for the vehicle she got on HP terms. That was on August 21st and everything for the next two weeks was normal. But on September 6th she was stopped by the police and told her red plates were false. She was taken to the Bang Kaew police station despite her protests that the red plate had been fitted by sales staff at the showroom. She was charged with using false registration and needed 100,000 baht bail that she didn't have. She persuaded the sales department at the showroom to front up the money, which they did after a five hour wait at the police station. Now after the case stalled B is calling for justice. She said she is just a law abiding customer who made a purchase in good faith and now finds herself in deep trouble. Thai Rath could not confirm if an arrest had yet been made at the showroom. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. As foreign tourists return to Thailand so do associated problems - this time drugs, but are "zero dollar" tours on comeback? Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath filed a special report in which they noted that foreign tourism into Thailand in August was 1.17 million people. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1275955-as-foreign-tourists-return-to-thailand-so-do-associated-problems-this-time-drugs-but-are-zero-dollar-tours-on-comeback/ -
Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath filed a special report in which they noted that foreign tourism into Thailand in August was 1.17 million people. Compared to last year's August that was up 7,000%, they commented drily. But they said that with the return of tourists has come the return of problems associated with tourism. They reported on a bust at 3 am yesterday when the metropolitan police raided a building in Sathon that had been converted into 20 karaoke rooms after opening four months ago. Outside were parked cars including a Rolls Royce, Porsche, Mercedes Benz and BMW. Picture: Thai Rath Inside were 237 Chinese, mostly tourists - 111 men and 126 women. There were 19 Thai and Cambodian staff. Maj-Gen Nitithorn Jintakanon said that 300 packets of ketamine happy water were found. The packets were being sold to the tourists for 10,000 baht each. The vehicles outside were seized in the raid and there appear irregularities in some of their registrations. Police spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Achayon Kraithong said that most of the tourists were in Thailand on tourist visas or VoA. A total of 104 tested positive for drugs with a purple urine result. Further tests are underway at Thanyarak Hospital to determine what was in their systems. The ones not taking drugs would be released. Those on drugs would be considered for blacklisting and deportation after the legal process has finished. Picture: Thai Rath He said that they were looking into the ownership of the business as well as the tourists. He said that before the pandemic there had been many problems with so called "zero dollar" tours for the Chinese. These effectively brought very little money into Thailand and were usually run by Chinese with nominees who kept the money out of the country. Action by the authorities dramatically reduced the business. He pointed out that tourism from China has changed since before and during the pandemic with restrictions still in place by the Chinese government and people who do manage to holiday relying on small groups or travelling idependently using apps and recommendations. But the conditions are there for a return of the menace of "zero dollar" tours so the force will be keeping a close watch on the tourism sector as it continues its recover, said Achayon. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
