(Photo by Ludovic MARIN / AFP) President Emmanuel Macron of France has officially confirmed that he will attend the upcoming Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum scheduled for November 18-19, according to spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Tanee Saengrat. He said Macron will be here as a special guest of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. Thai PBS World reported last week that the invitation is special as France, a leading member of the European Union, is not a member of APEC. It will also be the French leader’s first visit to Thailand since he became president in 2017. He is currently serving a second term. Several countries have shown interest in attending the Bangkok APEC leaders’ meeting because it is an opportunity to meet person-to-person for the first time in three years within the APEC framework. by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - Although COVID-19 has been relegated to a communicable disease under surveillance, the health ministry still encourages everybody to get properly vaccinated. Health authorities are reasserting that more than half of Covid deaths involve persons who have not been administered the full vaccine regimen. Newly instated DDC Director-General Tares Krassanairawiwong said people returned to normal lives over the weekend although most still wore a mask in crowded areas. The number of patients has not increased abnormally. Dr. Tares said anyone who displays symptoms of a respiratory tract infection should wear a face mask and get tested using an ATK kit. Members of the general public are advised to wear a face mask when entering crowded areas or spaces with inadequate airflow. People should observe distancing and wash their hands regularly. Dr. Tares noted that increasing vaccination coverage for persons at risk of developing severe Covid symptoms should take precedence. This is especially true for about 1.9 million elderly persons in Thailand who have yet to receive any dose of vaccine. The director-general said the majority of Covid deaths may be attributed to elderly persons, half of whom were unvaccinated. He called on people to take their elders to get vaccinated to prevent deaths and improve safety. This may be done at public hospitals or vaccination centers in each province. For bedridden patients, volunteer agencies or the local public health facility may be contacted so vaccination could be administered at home. There will be no charge for the vaccination service. Daily News Thai Caption: The elderly like the idea The term "dinosaur" is often leveled at Thai PM Prayuth Chan-ocha and his political associates. But comments made about the effectiveness of transistor radios as a communication tool when all else fails have drawn praise. Prauyth feels that radios can get the message across in the event of natural disasters that may leave other means of communication useless or lacking. Daily News reporters went to a shop in the Buriram market where Wasan Roothamsuktrhaworn, the owner, had sold two transistors for 450 baht each yesterday. Picture: Daily News He praised the newly reinstalled PM for promoting radios especially for the elderly. For just a few hundred baht they make great presents so that the aged can listen to music and the lottery while in the firelds as well as get important emergency information if necessary. Radios used in this way may be the technology of yesteryear but they are very effective and reliable when all else is down. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-05 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. By Adam Judd Pattaya, Thailand-One of Pattaya’s three biggest festivals, along with the New Year’s countdown and Songkran Wan Lai events, returns in November to light up the skies of Pattaya. Although the fireworks festival did take place in 2020 and 2021, due to border restrictions and business closures and covid rules many people that would have liked to come could not. Additionally the event was majorly scaled down for the past two years from multiple fireworks boats to one. This year, however, the fireworks festival returns with a BANG to Pattaya with many major beach hotel operators reporting their hotels are already fully booked with beach views. Pattaya City officials estimate over 100,000 domestic and foreign tourists will flock to the city for the event.
