By Thai Newsroom Reporters IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN whether colossal vote-wooing signs spotted along the road in some provinces ostensibly featuring caretaker Prime Minister-cum-Palang Pracharath party leader Prawit Wongsuwan will ever be removed at any time from now, commented Pheu Thai party leader Chonlanan Srikaew Saturday (Sept. 24). Under the laws pertaining to a general election for MPs, any roadside billboards set up by any parties with intent to contest the nationwide race to parliament need to be removed during a 180-day period ahead of March 24, the final date on which a four-year term for the current House of Representatives is scheduled to end unless the House is dissolved in the meantime, thus necessitating the election to be held in a 60-day time, according to the Election Commission. Chonlanan said those gigantic roadside signs featuring Prawit and his ruling party’s logo alongside the government’s economic and social measures for the impoverished people are evidently tantamount to an act of wooing votes from among those constituents in undue fashion, thus yet to be immediately and completely removed. (File) Deputy Government Spokesperson, Rachada Dhnadirek The government will lose about 6 billion baht in revenue per year if students with loans from the student loan program are exempted from paying interest and fines, in case of default, according to Deputy Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek. The House of Representatives recently approved, by a majority vote, a draft Bill on the student loan fund, which seeks to exempt interest on loans extended to students, as well as fines in case of repayment default. The draft bill will next be deliberated in the Senate. According to Rachada, the government has extended 702.31 billion baht in loans to 6,284,005 students since the student loan program was launched in the 1998 academic year, after the cabinet agreed on January 16th, 1996 to create the student loan fund, which is a legal entity. US President Joe Biden speaks at the Global Fund Seventh Replenishment Conference in New York on September 21, 2022. (Photo by MANDEL NGAN / AFP) US President Joe Biden understands the importance of APEC, and both Thailand and the US are coordinating to find a way for the President to attend the leader’s meeting in Bangkok, according to Tanee Sangrat, Spokesperson for Thailand’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, adding that they were informed that there is to be a wedding at the White House in November, around the time of the APEC meeting. The brief statement followed a report by Thai PBS World last night that the US President will not attend the APEC leaders’ meeting in Bangkok due to “a family engagement”, while the Thai embassy in Washington DC was informed that Biden had delegated Vice President Kamala Harris to represent him at the November 18th and 19th meeting. Harris will fly to Bangkok and attend only the two-day summit before returning to the US. The last in-person APEC summit was held in Papua New Guinea in 2018. Then U.S. president Donald Trump did not attend the meeting either and assigned Vice President Mike Pence to represent the U.S. Source: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/us-and-thailand-seeking-a-way-for-biden-to-attend-apec-meeting/ -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2022-09-26 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. By Thai PBS World’s General Desk Thailand will officially lift its COVID-19 emergency decree at the end of this month, paving the way for millions of people to return to normal life. Let’s check out all the changes this move will bring. The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), which was set up in the wake of the pandemic’s arrival in early 2020, announced last week that the state of emergency will finally be lifted from September 30 because the virus crisis is starting to subside. This move is in line with the Public Health Ministry’s decision to downgrade COVID-19 from a dangerous communicable disease to a monitored communicable disease from October 1. The virus has infected nearly 620 million people worldwide leading to 6.54 million deaths. How will the move affect you? The COVID downgrade and lifting of the emergency decree will bring a further and significant easing of restrictions. For instance, travelers will be able to enter Thailand without having to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test. 77kaoded Thai Caption: Mad teacher burns house down (Nan) 77kaoded reported from Ban Napha in the Kong Khwai sub-dsitrict of Nan, northern Thailand where firefighters battled for an hour at a blaze in a fire in a large teak house. The whole place was razed to the ground. The media reported that the fire was set by the daughter of the owner of the house. She is a teacher at a downtown Nan school. She set fire to it because her father wouldn't give her money. Picture: 77kaoded Relatives explained to the media that the daughter had qualified as a teacher after gaining a Master's degree in Bangkok. Later she decided to return to Nan to care for her aging dad, something that pleased relatives. The pair lived together at the house. But she soon started taking all his money forcing him to sell land and an orchard. She was addicted to online gambling, principally the card game baccarat. Picture: 77kaoded She got involved with loan sharks, lost her car and ran out of cash prompting the demands to her father. Ultimately she threatened to kill him and burn his house down causing the old man to flee to a relative's property. She then followed through on her arson threat watching the house burn to the ground at a relative's place. The media did not make any mention of what the police did though they had several pictures of a woman being dragged away and put in the back of a pick-up by officers. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-24 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
