Picture: Thai Rath Locals in Sukhumvit Soi 39 in downtown Bangkok were so furious after an accident at 7.30 am yesterday that they tried to attack a trucker who had just killed a man and a five year old girl on a motorcycle. They believed that Pongkorn Krataithong, who was carrying about 50 workers in the back of his adapted six wheel truck, smelled of alcohol. Thong Lo police chief Pol Col Duangchot Suwanjarat said his men quickly had the situation under control and hurried the suspect away, reported Thai Rath. Picture: Thai Rath He was not over the alcohol limit but the police were waiting on drug reports. Dead at the Phrom Sri 1 lights were Wandee and little Phakthathima. A Yamaha Fino was under the wheels of the truck. Two people on a Honda bike who had also been waiting at the lights were taken with injuries to Camillian Hospital. Police think it may have been brake failure and are having an expert check the brakes on the truck. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-22 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. by Krajangwit Johjit BANGKOK (NNT) - The National Communicable Disease Committee (NCDC) of Thailand has approved a management strategy for Covid-19, which is set to become an endemic disease under surveillance in October. The Ministry of Public Health has downgraded Covid-19 from a dangerous communicable disease to an endemic disease subject to surveillance under communicable disease law B.E. 2558 as published in the Royal Gazette, effective October 1, 2022, and lasting until September 30, 2023. The framework of the action plan, according to Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul, includes surveillance and preventative measures, risk communication, medical treatments, and other measures to control the disease. According to Anutin, the plan, which addresses social, legal, and economic management aspects, will soon be submitted for cabinet approval, allowing each province to establish its own action plan based on the new framework. With the Covid-19 situation improving, the minister of public health stated that measures are being modified so that people can live in a balanced manner that takes into account health, security, social, and economic factors. The minister of public health also advised those living with a mild or asymptomatic case of Covid-19 to continue practicing social isolation, mask-wearing, hand-washing, and ATK testing to avoid contracting the virus. Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported on a Facebook post by the owner of a "Khao Tom" restaurant in downtown Khon Kaen in north eastern Thailand who were trying to contact a customer. The Pe Tee shop in Nai Muang sub-district received a transfer of 4,420 baht for a 442 baht meal. They asked for "Udomsak" to come forward saying that he had dined at their shop last Saturday at 6pm showing a picture of where he was sitting. Netizens were quick to praise the shop for their wonderful honesty. Though others suggested they should contact the bank who could talk to their customer directly about the overpayment. It appeared he had added a zero to his transfer without realizing it. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-22 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. After liaison with park staff a plan has been devised to send him 100 kilometers away to a steep area where he'll effectively be unable to bother people any more. "Somchai the Terrible" - "Unusually rich" cop stripped of assets has colorful history Daily News Thai Cap: Cop's history revealed Daily News reported on the colorful history of a former top Thai policeman who has just been stripped of 136 million baht in assets by the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1272579-somchai-the-terrible-unusually-rich-cop-stripped-of-assets-has-colorful-history/ -
Daily News Thai Cap: Cop's history revealed Daily News reported on the colorful history of a former top Thai policeman who has just been stripped of 136 million baht in assets by the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases. This followed an investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Commission. They found that Pol Lt-Gen Somchai Nitayabowornkul, former deputy commissioner of Region 8 police, was "ruay pit pokati" - unusually wealthy. Somchai is known as "Big Uam" in the Thai press - it's a word that means 'terrible'. His assets were in his wife and daughter's names and include large amounts of land and vehicles and cash savings in police cooperative accounts. The court ordered 136 million baht of ownership documents be surrendered to the state. Somchai graduated from the police academy in the "Class of 34" and had some high profile friends in the form of Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) secretary Gen Chaya Siriamphankul as well as other Lt-Gens. He went from being called "Phee Uam" by reporters to the more respectful "Big Uam" for bigwigs in the force. From Samphran, Nakhon Pathom, Somchai started his career at Pak Phanang police station in Nakhon Sri Thammarat where he was involved in dealing with many acts of tour buses being held up for robbery in the early 1980s. He also rose to prominence as a police captain leading a patrol to resolve a bombing incident in 1986. By 1999 he was chief of police in Muang Ranong in the south and later a Maj-Gen in Chumphon in 2011 finally becoming deputy of Region 8 in 2013. He was instrumental in developing police use of firearms in Region 8 then was given a deputy commissioner role in Bangkok's met police before a stint in the legal office before retirement. Now following the court's decision he will be stripped of his assets in his wife's and daughter's names. ASEAN NOW notes that the Thai police are commonly referred to as a quasi-mafia organisation by many commentators though the Thai press - needful of their cooperation - usually show respect by publishing great reams of police names and ranks when cases get solved. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-22 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Tricky farang in a Lambo! Egg seller claims foreigner switched drivers after accident Daily News Thai Caption: Appealing for a lawyer's help A lady who sells chicken's eggs who was hit by a Lamborghini has gone to a lawyer with CCTV evidence that shows a driver switch. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1272574-tricky-farang-in-a-lambo-egg-seller-claims-foreigner-switched-drivers-after-accident/ -
Daily News Thai Caption: Appealing for a lawyer's help A lady who sells chicken's eggs who was hit by a Lamborghini has gone to a lawyer with CCTV evidence that shows a driver switch. After an accident that overturned the lady's pick-up the footage showed that the driver of the luxury supercar was switched from a foreigner to a Thai who had been in the passenger seat. Now a lawyer is going to the Muang Phetchaburi police with the damning evidence that could see the foreigner in deep trouble, possibly facing prison. Kamlaithong Seesaengjan, 33, had picked up a load of 1,385 trays of eggs from a farm at a cost of 190,000 baht and was heading for a customer in Trang, southern Thailand. She was involved in a collision with a blue Lamborghini with a red (new car) plate of ก9999 Bangkok. It happened on the southbound side of the Petchkasem Highway at 5 am on September 10th. The Thai lady's vehicle overturned and was damaged and all her cargo was destroyed. It happened in Muang Phetchaburi. Picture: Daily News She was taken to hospital in Phetchaburi and given 6,000 for her injuries. Another car was also involved in the accident though the driver was not injured. It was decided that Apiwat, who was on police documents as the driver of the Lamborghini, would pay 100,000 baht for the loss of the eggs up front. This didn't compensate the lady fully and she was concerned that she'd have to return this when the insurance claim came through, reported Daily News. She contacted Apiwat who said that the insurance company would sort everything out. Picture: Daily News Then it emerged from the driver of the other vehicle that a foreigner in a green shirt had got out of the driver's seat and a Thai who was wearing black had been in the passenger seat following the accident. A lawyer called Pongprit Sutthikoon, representing Decha of "Thanai Khlai Thuk", will now take the evidence to the Muang Petchaburi police. If it can be proven that the foreigner was behind the wheel he and the Thai will be in far more trouble than just from the original accident. This involves the falsification of documents that would carry a jail term, suggests ASEAN NOW. More on this as we hear of it. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-22 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. By Erich Parpart The main opposition – Pheu Thai party has come out to say that it would likely nominate its only candidate remaining in the party as the potential candidate for Prime Ministership if the Constitutional Court hands down verdict to end 2014 coup leader’s term as Prime Minister. Pheu Thai also came out to warn that if General Prayut Chan-o-cha is allowed to remain in power for longer than this term (which ends on March 23, 2023) the likelihood of ‘resistance’ against the regime will likely grow. Pheu Thai said that despite the party having 3 eligible nominees, the party will only nominate one candidate for the premier position, if the Constitutional Court rules that suspended Prime Minister General Prayut’s 8-year premiership term already ended.
