  6. Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath reported that a man called Pareuhat Pinthong, 45, called rescue services after a large python tried to swallow a one year old white goat at a house in Muang district of Saraburi, central Thailand. Pareuhat had attacked the python with a knife causing two gaping wounds in an effort to save the goat. It failed but the python gave up swallowing the goat and slithered off. A rescue man arrived and grabbed its tail but proved not strong enough to get the python into custody. He called back-up from another rescuer and the pair managed to get the python and return it to nature. Ploy, 19, said that the python - 4 meters long - was also probably responsible for eating 6-7 of her cats. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 7. Drowning cases in Thailand: Most are children under 15 File photo INN reported on data from the Department of Disease Control of Thailand about drowning related incidents. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1272269-drowning-cases-in-thailand-most-are-children-under-15/
  8. File photo INN reported on data from the Department of Disease Control of Thailand about drowning related incidents. From January 1st to September 14th they had dealt with 184 incidents in which 174 people had died. Most were children under 15. ASEAN NOW notes that this is just a fraction of drowning related deaths in Thailand. WHO data in 2020 said there were 3,956 deaths ranking Thailand as #22 in the world. Image: INN Deaths among children under 15 from drowning and from motorcycle accident are close. The department said that in order of the number of cases of drowning klongs (canals) were at the top followed by rivers, agricultural ponds, the sea and swimming pools. The reasons were inability to swim, no idea how to save lives of those in trouble, parents not having been informed of swimming activities, no parents supervising children, no signage and no barriers. The department warned that with flooding predicted things would likely get worse in the coming weeks. They came up with a cute graphic to try and prevent deaths with advice to "shout (for help) - throw (something like a floatable plastic can) - hold out (a stick or a sarong)". -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 10. by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has affirmed its plan to prohibit plastic scrap imports by 2025, with the ban to be implemented in stages over the next three years. Natural Resources and Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa made the announcement while chairing a meeting of a subcommittee on plastic and electronic waste management. The meeting was held to discuss the production capacity of plastic scrap-related factories and banning the import of plastic scrap for raw materials in the industrial sector. Varawut said the ban, which had been considered since 2020, seeks to rid Thailand of plastic waste in a major step towards ensuring public safety and protecting the environment. He added that the panel agreed that 14 plants located in free trade zones would be authorized to import plastic scrap until 2024. This would be carried out and limited in two phases, with the first phase commencing in 2023 to limit the amount of imported scrap based on actual production capacities. The second phase will begin the year after when just 50% of imports will be permitted, followed by a comprehensive prohibition at all plants in 2025. According to the minister, Thailand produces 24.98 million tons of residential garbage annually, of which only 32% is treated efficiently. Varawut also said the government will continue to promote a campaign to reduce the use of single-use plastic bags at department and convenience stores, citing the program’s ability to reduce plastic bag usage by 43% or 150,000 tons over the last two years. 20. Picture: Siam Rath Former politician and soapy massage boss Chuwit Kamolwisit was at his firebrand best in a Facebook post at the weekend. He was commenting on a Supreme Court decision due tomorrow in relation to the building of 396 police stations. He explained the history of those involved in the case including former DPM Chalerm Yubamrung and Suthep Thaugsuban who gave his permission to the building, reported Siam Rath. Chuwit said it was as clear a case or corruption as could be. Speaking facetiously, he said that no one is as good at fighting corruption as the Thais. Such a clear cut case and "it's only taken ten years" to come to a decision, he said ironically. Famously former PM Prayuth Chan-ocha promised to end corruption in 20 years, notes ASEAN NOW. Chuwit referred to corruption as an "Epic Forgotten World". Some bent leaders were living "the life of Riley" abroad on their ill-gotten gains. Others just hoped it would all blow over and bided their time until it did. Corruption in this case was like snatch theft in the market with the thief wearing a red shirt and with bells round his neck. It was that obvious. It was over the building of 2-4 story police stations. It should have been a simple matter to get the stations built. Instead corruption took over. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
