  1. Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath said that problems still persist with nightclubs and places of prostitution opening all hours annoying local residents. This is going on despite zoning laws introduced more than 50 years ago. Following the easing of restrictions post pandemic it appears that Thailand is slipping back into laxness when it comes to pubs and clubs. This despite people like the RTP chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk demanding that local forces crackdown on pubs breaking the law. If they don't he promised that his men would face disciplinary or even criminal charges for taking backhanders directly or indirectly. Picture: Siam Rath The latest to complain was a man named only as "Somchai" who said that a pub operating in Talat Thai, Klong Luang, Pathum Thani in Soi Thepkunchorn 12-13 was opening daily to 4 am. Sometimes it was light before the young people went home. There was noise from loud music keeping many area residents awake. He asked the media to pass on the complaint to the acting Thai PM, chief of police and the Department of Public Administration. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 2. Thai transfers 56,000 baht - but still doesn't get "sideline girl" Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath reported on a case of a man in northern Bangkok who fancied having some fun with a so-called "sideline girl" he encountered on Twitter. 3. Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath reported on a case of a man in northern Bangkok who fancied having some fun with a so-called "sideline girl" he encountered on Twitter. These are women not normally involved in prostitution who sell themselves for sex. Typically they are students trying to get through college. In this case the woman said she had lost her job. "Nat" - not surprisingly an assumed name - met the woman on Twitter and agreed on 1,300 baht for sex. He transferred 1,000 baht upfront and would pay 300 baht on meeting her. The customer was directed to a Line group where he was asked to transfer 6,000 to verify his identity, money he was told he would get back. When he did this he was asked for a further 13,000 baht, again told it would be returned. While all this was going on the woman was calling him saying she was ready and willing but the transfers needed to be sorted out first. Picture: Siam Rath Next the Line group admin asked for 36,000 baht saying the full 55,000 would then be returned in a few minutes. He said he didn't have that kind of money. But he was convinced to borrow it from a friend and paid up. He'd been in tears with admin who told him not to be a baby and pay up. Still being called by the sideline girl he thought it was finally sorted. Wrong. Then came a demand for 20,000 baht and the penny finally dropped for Nat that he'd been conned. He went to Ekkaphop Leuangprasert who runs the Sai Mai Tong Rort page. Ekkaphop said that this was clearly a criminal gang in league with the women. He said people trying to get sex online should not send money up front. While Siam Rath reporters were with the victim and even when he was telling his tale of woe to the Sai Mai police the gang were still calling for more money and the woman was still calling to say she was ready to come. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 5. Sanook Thai Caption: Cap: Let out of prison The Department of Corrections said that Wiwat or "Top" - one of the protesters who was jailed following demonstrations in the Laksi area of Bangkok in 2014 has been released from jail. Wiwat - also known as the "popcorn shooter" - had been held since the incident at the Laksi intersection on February 1st 2014 when Akaew was shot dead and three people were grievously injured. The Supreme Court gave him a sentence of 37 years 4 months but he was let out Thursday, reported Sanook. The Laksi area had been declared an area of internal security and the incident involved a gun battle between government opponents and supporters a day before a general election. Elsewhere in the media it was reported that he earned the title of "popcorn gunman" because photos in the media showed him firing rounds from a rifle hidden inside a bag of popcorn. The violence at Laksi was one of several incidents that ultimately led to the coup of 2014 mounted by the General Prayuth Chan-ocha. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 6. Tourist police chief acts to help Thai tourism: Tells cabbies to get professional and stop refusing fares Picture: Siam Rath The chief of the Thai tourist police is fed up with Thailand's image being ruined by cabbies who continually refuse fares from tourists. 7. Picture: Siam Rath The chief of the Thai tourist police is fed up with Thailand's image being ruined by cabbies who continually refuse fares from tourists. He has told tourists that they should call his men with pictures of licence plates and they will do something about it. In this way it would help the country rid itself of the bad image and compete with other country's for the tourist dollar. The edict came down from the chief Pol Lt-Gen Sukhun Promayon via his senior spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Apichart Suribunya. It's an unusual move; matters about refusing fares are not dealt with by the tourist police, normally it is the domain of the Department of Land Trandsport, notes ASEAN NOW. The fact that the tourist police chief has stepped in shows the country's annoyance that the problem of cabbies refusing fares is heightening as the country competes with other countries post pandemic. Apichart said that the tourist police had received many complaints on their 1155 hotline about cabbies refusing fares in tourist areas. Especially when it's raining. He said that this unprofessional attitude was damaging the image of Thailand for tourism at a time when competition is high, reported Siam Rath. He said that Thailand is indeed a top tourist destination in the world but that such activity was damaging to the good name of the kingdom. He urged tourists to call 1155 and send a picture of the registration plate. The tourist police will then contact the DLT so that the driver, if guilty, is appropriately sanctioned. He also called on all Thais to help in the issue and promote "professionalism". -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 13. Although the minimum daily wage will rise by an average of 5 percent from October 1, not many workers see a brighter future. “The increase will not make my life better in any way,” said Pattama Ngarmpag, who works as a janitor. “I’m already getting more than the new minimum wage rate, but I’ve never been able to make ends meet.” Pattama currently earns 360 baht per day, which is just above the 353-baht minimum rate set for workers in Bangkok. Yet, despite working five days a week from Monday to Friday, she earns less than 10,000 baht a month. “I’ve tried looking for extra jobs but to no avail. There are far too many people scrambling for extra work out there,” she said. Soaring inflation means her expenses are far higher than her income. She now owes nearly 50,000 baht to loan sharks and almost 10,000 baht to her landlord.
