By Narudon Daisachulshu The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) has come out to warn telecom operators in Thailand to get their act together or else face a fine of up to 1 million Baht per day for noncompliance. The NBTC, which has been under immense pressure from the public and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, to tackle the growing number of fraud cases due to the various call centers, that has siphoned off money from people of all walks of life. Telcom operators, the NBTC said, would need to immediately implement the measures of registering all SIM cards and also anybody who owns more than 5 SIM cards needs to be called in by the operator to present themselves to the operator to make sure that they are not part of the call center gangs that has been rampant in Thailand. Picture: Thai Rath There were dramatic scenes caught on tape as a serious fire ripped through a large warehouse in the Ratburana area of Bangkok yesterday. Bang Khor Laem police were initially informed of the fire at a storage facility for products sold online around 9.30 pm, reported Thai Rath. It happened near Ratburana Soi 15, at a warehouse on five rai of land. A TV report by the same organisation said the warehouse stored products from China. As firemen battled the blaze a roof shifted causing the collapse of a rear wall that injured seven firemen who required hospital treatment. The blaze was mostly brought under control after two hours. Bang Khor Laem police chuief Pol Col Suphat Suphakamnert said that items such as face masks and rolls of fabric provided ideal fuel for the fire that was probably started by sparks from a short circuit. No official assessment of the damage has yet been made. That and further investigations are due today. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Prayut begs Constitutional Court to not count his premiership from 2014 as court sees 2nd data leak in past 2-days By Erich Parpart A 23-page document that was allegedly submitted by suspended Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to the Constitutional Court was leaked today which stated some of the rebuttals made by the 2014 coup leader against the allegations of him having completed his 8-year term as Prime Minister. The documents, the 2nd leak from the top court in Thailand in as many days, came as the Constitutional Court continues to deliberate on the petition filed by the opposition parties against what they see as the breach of the 2017 constitution that states that nobody can remain a Prime Minister for more than 8-years. “Even though I first assumed the prime minister position on August 24, 2014, and I have continued to be in the position since then until now, the plaintiff cannot use that first period of my premiership under Article 14 dash 1 of the interim charter, which was already nullified when the 2017 constitution came into effect, to be counted in with the premiership period under the current charter,” the unauthenticated document stated. By Thai Newsroom Reporters LEGISLATION TO END the power of senators to vote alongside MPs for head of a post-election government was aborted again yesterday (Sept 7). During today’s joint House/Senate meeting on the legislation primarily drafted to amend the constitution’s Section 272 and endorsed with signatures of over 75,000 people in sustained effort to end the unelected legislators’ power to pick head of a post-election government alongside the elected ones, the yea votes finally came out short of half the total of MPs and senators combined to pass approval in principle for it. Despite a lengthy floor debate launched by amendment proponents who insisted the legislative process of picking a head of government only be the business of the elected lawmakers whilst the unelected ones be kept at bay, the legislation completely failed to sail through. At the Pattaya City Hall today, September 7th, a meeting chaired by Passakorn Yusomboon, chairman of the Public Works and Utilities Committee, was arranged to discuss the progress of the walkway projects on Central Pattaya Road, following multiple complaints from ordinary pedestrians. Most pedestrians were peeved at the project because it had been delayed from its original completion date of September 2021, Passakron stated. This was mainly due to a “labor shortage” caused by COVID-19 and obstructive wires that slowed down the work.
