Daily News Thai Cap: Attempted bombing of school Army bomb disposal experts were called to a school in Tak Bai district of Narithiwat, southern Thailand, after a teacher spotted a suspicious device hidden in a box of food. When EOD personnel arrived at Pula Che Mu Do school the Tak Bai police had already cordoned off the area around the canteen. Sniffer dogs and personnel in bomb suits were used after a device to block signals was deployed. An 18 cm long pipe bomb packed with explosives was successfully dealt with. Picture: Daily News The bomb had been in a box of breaded sweets that had been left with other food supplies by a bridge next to the school. Janitors believing it was all for the school brought the supplies in. But a teacher noted that one item was not the size usually ordered and alerted the police who called in the army. The device was believed to be the work of southern separatist terrorists who would have blown up the school using a signal from a mobile phone after everyone had gone home, reported Daily News. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Sanook Thai Caption: Look Dad! It's your son's name Sanook reported on a Facebook post that was going viral online that was making netizen's cry. The feel good story started on the page of a young man "Ba Rom" who had just got his bachelor's degree. In one picture he was showing his dad his name on the degree certificate saying "That's me dad!" The father - an unskilled laborer - was in floods of tears. The post by the son said it would take too long to relate everything about his dad. Suffice to say his dad thought he was dreaming when he saw his son's name there in black and white. He remembered back to 8 years ago when he promised his dad that he'd graduate one day and become the first person in the family to get a good income from being in the civil service. He spoke of the help his father had given to everyone in the family and his promise that even if his dad didn't live to see the day he'd point out to relatives who he was and with pride say what he had done for the family. Fortunately his dad was still alive to see the happy day of his son's graduation as they remembered an occasion when they had no money for food and had been helped out by a lady they had never forgotten. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News Thai Caption: Two boys ambushed and shot Daily News followed up on a disturbing case in Udon Thani in the north east of Thailand when two 14 year old boys on a motorcycle on their way home after playing sports at school were shot. One of the boys called Tam was killed instantly while another was shot in the back as he fled. The assailant escaped. The distraught parents were interviewed by the press at the funeral of Tam, 14. His mother said that he was a good and lively boy who was never in trouble. She called on the police to quickly solve the shocking crime. The survivor of the attack said that he had joined his friend to ride home in the dark after sports. Tam, who was driving, was hit in the neck and the motorcycle crashed to the ground. The survivor ran off and was shot in the back with the bullet coming out his chest. He was grievously wounded. A member of the public arrived at the scene and called police causing the assailant to flee on a bike. In total it was thought that 4-5 shots were fired. The boy said it was dark but he had no idea who the assailant was or why they had been shot. The mother said that she and her husband - who separated years ago leaving the children in the care of grandparents - had gone to work in Korat and Ayutthaya to get money for their 17 year old daughter and Tam. She said Tam was a great kid who never got into trouble. Tam loved sports. She demanded a quick arrest. Pol Col Phanpetch Laokamnertpetch of the Udon provincial police said that CCTV was all the police had to go on except the testimony of the survivor. Neither of the boys were ever in trouble and were not mixed up in drugs. He said that police believed it was a case of mistaken identity. The incident happened at a U-turn by a "khao lam" (baked rice in bamboo) stall in the village of Ban Nong Pheung in the Kumphawapi police jurisdiction on Monday evening. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News Thai Caption: That was close! Daily News reported on yet another child getting stuck in a motor vehicle - this one had a happy ending but a rescue serviceman has warned other parents they might not be so lucky. Last week a seven year old child left in a school van died and this week a company that provides services to prevent such accidents bemoaned the fact that many schools were unwilling to shell out money to potentially save lives. In this case a father who works in Bangkok had driven overnight from the Thai capital to his home in Nong Yai Phim sub-district of Nangrong district, Buriram, NE Thailand. His three year old son who dotes on his dad, according to his 38 year old mum, started playing with his pick-up keys unbeknownst to the adults. He then went and locked himself in the vehicle. Picture: Daily News The father was tired after his long drive and decided to sleep in the day but fortunately he decided to move his pick-up a little before sleeping. He couldn't find his keys and eventually realised that his son was lying down and playing on the back seat. After trying to open the doors for 45 minutes rescue was called and they took a further 30 minutes to gain entry. Worabadin of the rescue service said this should serve as a warning to parents to be careful with their keys. Things could have been very different if it had been a hotter time of day and the folks hadn't noticed for longer. The three year old boy was cradled in his dad's arms - exhausted but none the worse for wear after the near tragedy, said the media. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
