It happened near the end of Phibil Songkhram Soi 11. The old person crossing caused an MG to brake sharply, a collision with a delivery guy on a Honda PCX and a #65 bus. The MG was hit by the bus and the rider hit the bus, it appeared. The upshot was that Pornsak, 50, was dead in the road, that was covered in his blood. Picture: Siam Rath Poster boy cop of the Royal Thai Police Pol Lt-Gen Surachate Hakpan was in Phuket yesterday checking up on his boss's much vaunted Special Safety Zone 4.0 community policing initiative. But during his tour he found plenty of things wrong in the Thalang Road area and told local contractors and officers to get their fingers out and make repairs. First, as reported by Siam Rath, was his observation that there were not enough safety barriers on some repairs to the footpaths. He told the contractor to get it sorted lest there be an accident to members of the public. Then outside a well known restaurant called Raya he noticed that the markings on a Zebra Crossing were faded and this could cause accidents. Picture: Siam Rath He told the Muang district police chief and his deputy to contact the relevant authorities to make repairs. In relation to Smart Safety Zone 4.0 he said it was so much more than CCTV - it was all about the police and the community working together for better outcomes. ASEAN NOW notes that Surachate has been put in charge of reviewing the community policing plan that is the baby of soon to retire RTP chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk. It won an award for community policing in Dubai but few members of the public have a clue what it is. Surachate - known universally by the moniker Big Joke - says that after pilot projects the safety zone plans will be increasingly rolled out. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-16 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Lady wants justice from car manufacturer - they damaged her car not once but TWICE! Picture: Sanook A Thai lady called Phromsiri, 31, went to the Thai media to seek justice after what on the face of it seems some appalling customer service. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1268992-lady-wants-justice-from-car-manufacturer-they-damaged-her-car-not-once-but-twice/ -
Picture: Sanook A Thai lady called Phromsiri, 31, went to the Thai media to seek justice after what on the face of it seems some appalling customer service. Sanook published many pictures of her damaged car but with the make "vaselined" out. Nowhere in a long story was the location or identity of the manufacturer mentioned. We'll leave that speculation up to posters; here is her story. On June 2nd she put her car into the service center for checks as she was planning an up country trip. She handed over the keys to a staffer who promptly backed it into another vehicle causing some scratches to the paint work. Picture: Sanook It was agreed that they would repair the scratches with a new paint job but as Phromsiri was going to another province this was deferred for a while. On 29th July she put her car back in for the paint job as agreed and was told she'd be able to pick it up on August 1st. On 30th July she got a call from the company to say that her car had been damaged when it was being taken to another garage. When she saw it she was shocked to see both the front and the back had been completely smashed in. A meeting with a senior manager was arranged for August 1st. She said she wanted a new car as the vehicle was relatively new - she'd paid just 16 instalments representing a year and a bit. She was told no way. She then suggested that the company return her down payment and 16 instalments and she was prepared to buy a new one from them. This was taken to a committee meeting on August 9th but also rejected. Picture: Sanook The company offered to do a full repair and give her a 30,000 baht extra payment in cash and extend the warranty by two years. This Phromsiri rejected. Her car had been so badly damaged she didn't fancy this resolution. She suggested a third idea. This was to make the repairs and give her 500,000 baht for time wasted and other considerations. She told Sanook that she didn't expect this to be agreed as it was far too much but she expected the company to come back with a revised offer. They didn't, they just rejected her plan out of hand at a commitee meeting on 11th August. So she went to the police to file a report, the media to seek justice and adds further that she plans to contact the watchdog group Damrongtham before taking the matter to court. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-16 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. BANGKOK, Aug 16 (TNA) – The internal trade chief said he was aware that instant noodle manufacturers were facing higher production costs but he had to reject their request to raise the product price to eight baht per pack. Wattanasak Sueaiam, director-general of the Department of Internal Trade, said he acknowledged the press conference in which the five instant noodle manufacturers jointly sought permission to increase their product price from six baht to eight baht per pack due to rising production costs. He said that his department was carefully considering the matter to treat all parties fairly. However, it had not allowed any manufacturer to raise the price yet. If any operators increased it or hoard the products, they would be liable to a jail term of up to seven years and/or a maximum fine of 140,000 baht, Mr Wattanasak said. Daily News Thai Caption: You can see the numbers plain as day Daily News reporters raced to Chaiyaphum in the north east where locals are convinced they saw numbers in the bark of a tree that could be the answer to today's lottery draw. They went to a house in ban Kulalom in Muang district where there was a "Khaena" tree. Owner Prasan said that a while back he had had a dream in which the spirits of the land had advised him that if he wanted his family to get rich he should dig at the base of the tree. Lo and behold 70-80 cms below the surface he found an image of Buddha on a stone slab that he reckons is more than 100 years old. Picture: Daily News Now locals were busy praying to the tree and lighting joss-sticks convinced they will benefit too by divining numbers from the bark. Some people thought the numbers were 08 while others reckoned 72. A lady called Khamra, 52, was sure that the spirits were right after Prasan's dream. She saw 08. The draw for the state lottery, drawn every two weeks, takes place this afternoon. Many Thais bet on two numbers to increase their chance of winning by buying government tickets or betting on underground markets. ASEAN NOW takes no responsibility if the numbers don't come up...... -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-16 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Video: "Strict measures" to ensure safety and legality in Khao San Road 77kaoded Thai Caption: Strict! 77kaoded Thai Caption: Strict! In the Khao San area 77kaoded reported with a video on BMA officials ensuring that the law was being followed in relation to fire safety at Khao San Road clubs. And bars and dispensaries offering the sale of marijuana were also visited. This after the devastating Mountain B fire earlier this month that killed many people and the legalization of weed in June. A female deputy governor went with her staff and the police to ensure safety at clubs again checking exits were not locked. If things were not perfect she advised how to achieve this. The visit was mounted yesterday evening by Dr Thawida Kamolwech and local officials. Chana Songkhram police chief Pol Col Sanong Saengmanee tagged along. Several media referred to "strictness". The trip included visits to a street stall selling Jack Daniels and ganja and a more salubrious dispensary purveying such items in jars as "Gelato Runts" and "Gorilla Glue". Picture: 77kaoded Dr Thawida told the media she was concerned for the safety of people going out in the area regarding entry and exit points to clubs. She was also checking licences were in place. Mountain B and many others in Thailand didn't bother with that. Picture: 77kaoded She was also concerned with cleanliness and order and was following up on previous visits to make sure that clubs and businesses were putting their act together. One wasn't and a further 11 were ordered closed temporarily to make changes. Despite economic hardship she stressed the need for businesses to be following the law and inspiring confidence to customers - especially foreigners of which there were many. Picture: 77kaoded Their safety in a place unfamiliar to them was paramount, she said. She said that clubs in the area were claustrophobic and exit routes outside were important. Exits from clubs needed to be multiple, not just one. Also on her radar were noise abatement measures and overcrowding. Sasithorn Prasitporn-udom of the Phra Nakhon authority stressed the need for the measures to be lasting: "We can't have two exits this week then next week back to one," she cautioned promising further checks. ASEAN NOW notes that much criticism has been leveled at the Thai authorities for laxity in following up crackdowns in the past. Neither this report or a similar one by Daily News commented about the officials' checks on marijuana selling shops in the area. It was all about club safety. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-16 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
