Foreign Tourist Numbers On The Rise By Editor Thailand welcomed more than four million foreign tourists from January 1 to August 16, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reported on Wednesday. TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn said 4,015,504 foreign tourists visited the country in the seven-and-a-half-month period, while the first half of August saw an average of 42,000 international arrivals per day. He said the tourism sector has recovered to a great extent after the government eased several Covid-19 prevention measures, including removing the Thailand Pass entry system from July 1. TAT expects the number of foreign tourists to reach 4.5 million on August 31, Yuthasak said. It aims to attract an overall 10 million tourists this year, with more than 1 million per month in August and September and 1.5 million per month in the fourth quarter. Yuthasak expects foreign tourists to generate 625.8 billion baht in revenue for the country this year, while another 656 billion baht is likely to come from 160 million domestic trips by Thai travellers. The top five countries from which the most tourists arrived from January 1 to August 16 were: Malaysia – 526,051 India – 395,025 Laos – 218,043 Singapore – 213,523 UK -193,003 Source: https://royalcoastreview.com/2022/08/foreign-tourist-numbers-on-the-rise/ -- © Copyright Royal Coast Review 2022-08-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. DDC warns against intensified dengue fever outbreaks during this rainy season by Namo Vananupong BANGKOK (NNT) - Health authorities have voiced their concern about the threat of dengue fever during the current rainy season. The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has indicated the illness is now being increasingly found in the adult population. by Namo Vananupong BANGKOK (NNT) - Health authorities have voiced their concern about the threat of dengue fever during the current rainy season. The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has indicated the illness is now being increasingly found in the adult population. DDC Director-General Opas Karnkawinpong said 16,276 dengue fever patients were found in Thailand from January 1 to August 10 this year. 14 of these patients have lost their lives. The group of deceased patients aged more than 35 years has grown by 2.2 times its size compared to the same period last year. The provinces with the highest patient numbers are, in respective order, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, Tak, and Si Saket. For this year, the DDC expects intensified dengue fever outbreaks in accordance with the disease’s outbreaks cycle. The department says there is a tendency for a greater prevalence of the disease among adult patients. Dengue fever entails 2-7 days of acute high fever in combination with headaches, body aches, a reddened face, and small, red spots on the skin. Nausea, vomiting, stomach ache, and loss of appetite may also occur. Most dengue fever patients do not experience coughs or runny rose. When the fever starts to level off, special care must be exercised to shocks and deaths being commonly observed during this stage. The DDC director-general asks that people look after the conditions of people in their families who come down with fever. If a high fever persists for more than 2 days and cannot be brought down via fever reducers, there is cause for dengue fever to be suspected. In this scenario, aspirin and ibuprophen drugs are to be avoided and the patient should quickly be taken to see a doctor. Dr. Opas encouraged people to remove mosquito breeding grounds around their homes. This can be done by keeping the home tidy, storing all items in and around the home in an orderly manner, and increasing sunlight intake. Lids should be placed on items that contain water and vases should have their water changed every week. Entertainment celebrity Savika Chaiyadej, aka “Pinky”, and her mother Sarinya were among 19 people indicted on criminal charges today (Thursday) by public prosecutors, for allegedly defrauding the public and violations of Computer Crime Act, in a foreign exchange futures investment scam, known as Forex-3D. The two accused posted land titles deeds as surety for their bail applications, but the court rejected their request for fear that they may try to flee. After the hearing, they were escorted to a prison to be held on remand. The investment scam, which was in fact a Ponzi scheme, offered investors returns of up to 80% on their investments. About 14,000 people were duped into investing in the scheme, to the value of an estimated 1.9 billion baht, according to the Department of Special Investigation. The body of a man was found yesterday (Wednesday) in one of more than a dozen of 7-Eleven and Mini Big C convenience stores, gas stations and communication towers in the three southern provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat, which were attacked by southern insurgents on Tuesday night. Deputy Commander of the Fourth Army Region Maj-Gen Pramote Prom-in said yesterday that he believes the coordinated bomb attacks, selectively targeting convenience stores, were carried out by a single group of insurgents to undermine the economy of the Deep South, as the stores are economic symbols. The charred body of the 21-year-old man was found inside a store, located in the compound of a PTT gas station in Su-Ngai Kolok district of Narathiwat province, during an inspection by a unit of explosive ordnance disposal officials. The remains were sent to a hospital for autopsy, before being handed over to his family for burial. Accompanied by tourist police and officials from Phra Nakhon district, the minister toured the Khao San Road and held informal talks with several night spot operators about the extension of operating hours. He said that this pilot project has to receive the consent of most people in the Khao San neighbourhood, without which it cannot proceed, adding, however, that people in the neighbourhood will stand to benefit from extra income if they agree to the project. Now, is Pheu Thai landslide possible? OPINION | by Tulsathit Taptim Photo from FB page พรรคเพื่อไทย The answer depends primarily on two factors. Photo from FB page พรรคเพื่อไทย OPINION | by Tulsathit Taptim The answer depends primarily on two factors. The first one is quite ironic considering the Palang Pracharath “conspiracy theory”, which is doing the rounds and not for the first time. The second one has to do with the “frenemy” relationship with the Move Forward Party. What has happened in Parliament over the past few days has raised the prospect of a Pheu Thai sweeping election victory. The quorum collapse means the electoral system should now be settling for a two-ballot and “Divided by 100” formula, which is heavily favoured by Pheu Thai. This upcoming system would be a far cry from 2019, in which Thailand resorted to one ballot and a party-list calculation system that deprived Pheu Thai of party-list seats totally. Pheu Thai emerged with an impressive 136 constituency seats in 2019 anyway, enough to be crowned champion of that election in terms of seats won. One significant detail of the 2019 election is that, in terms of overall votes combined, Palang Pracharath was the champion, winning 8,433,137 votes. Pheu Thai came second with 7,920,630 votes. The Thai Raksa Chart disaster more or less contributed to these figures.
