Delegates attending the 11th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting and the 60th APEC Tourism Working Group Meeting in Bangkok from 14-20 August, 2022, had the chance to experience first-hand the event’s ‘Regenerative Tourism’ concept during the workshop on “Creative Placemaking: Regenerative Approach, Better Lives Through Better Places”. Held on Monday, 15 August, 2022, the workshop took place at “GalileOasis”, a 40-year-old Renaissance building situated in Bangkok’s Banthat Thong area amidst the chaotic urban surroundings. Designed to elevate the well-being of the local people and bring life back to the area, the project includes a gallery, theatre, and café, and serves as an ‘oasis’ that revitalises anyone passing by. The half-day workshop started with welcoming remarks by the creator of the GalileOasis. This was followed by a conversation with the place maker, Noppamas Pattarakul, on the story and journey of the place making: regenerative approach moderated by Dr. Jutamas Wisansing. After a walk through the place, the delegates then participated in the reflection and discussion session on key learnings pressing through a canvas, as well as sharing and exhibiting the final thoughts that reflected Regenerative Tourism. The workshop was organised under the idea that tourism must be an agent of positive change, acting as a sustainable champion, and manifesting its contribution to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By Thai Newsroom Reporters PRIME MINISTER PRAYUT Chan-o-cha might probably stay on as head of government for several months after next week pending a ruling by the Constitutional Court over his contentious eight-year tenure, said a veteran lawmaker yesterday (August 16). Deputy Sarng Anakhot Thai party leader Nipit Intharasombat posted on his Facebook page saying Prayut could possibly be allowed by the Constitutional Court to continue to perform as prime minister though his eight-year tenure maximumly provided by law is allegedly ending on the upcoming August 24 as concluded by academics, opposition legislators and critics of the unelected premier. 11. by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - Thai people have become less cautious about COVID-19, according to a survey, while the numbers of daily Covid hospitalizations and deaths have started to show a decline. Conducted nationally by the Department of Health Service Support, the survey shows a 4.27% higher engagement in at-risk activities, and an 11.06% decline in mask-wearing awareness; all contributing to a higher risk for COVID-19 spread. These results came from comparing the data from the first round of survey conducted on 5-31 March with 113,847 respondents, and the latest round on 1-20 July with 28,487 respondents. According to the department, this survey indicates more physical contact due to the relaxed social distancing and masking measures. The Ministry of Public Health still encourages the general public to keep observing the Universal Protection protocol in a stringent manner. Around 77.1% of Thailand’s population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with two primary doses, while around 45.2% have already received at least one booster dose.
