  2. Picture: Daily News Daily News reported comments by South Korean media KBS who said that 115 Thais on a Jeju Airlines flight to Jeju-Do province had been turned back by immigration. This comes as post pandemic travel restrictions have been eased and once again Thais flock to travel as tourists as well as work illegally in their economic giant of an Asian neighbor. Further reports suggested that there are 18,000 legal Thai workers in South Korea but 140,000 who are not legal. Some 50% of Thais are being rejected to work there, sources suggested to Daily News with 5,000 out of 10,000 being rejected in 2022. More than 10,000 have been deported from the country with a further 13,000+ volunteering for that under an amnesty. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 3. Monkeypox: Thais advised to avoid sexual contact with foreigners, hotels advised to clean properly A member of the Medical Council of Thailand has advised Thais to avoid sexual contact with foreign nationals to help contain the spread of monkeypox. 4. A member of the Medical Council of Thailand has advised Thais to avoid sexual contact with foreign nationals to help contain the spread of monkeypox. He even warned there could be deaths among people with other serious health issues if they became infected. This comes despite the fact that the disease can't be transmitted via sexual contact. Though information available online says that monkeypox spreads through close skin-to-skin physical contact with infected individuals such as when having sex or contamination with such items as bedding, towels or clothes, said the NSW government health department in Australia. Council member Amon Leelarasami said that Thais could become infected from the virus because of secretions from blisters on the body. Most cases worldwide so far are among gay and bisexual men according to aidsmap.com while the World Health Organisation has warned that men who have sex with men are the group at the highest risk of infection right now. WHO chief Tedros Ghebreyesus has said that such men should consider limiting their sexual partners to lower risks and contain spread. He called for authorities and governments to fight stigma in comments to CNBC last week but the statements from Amon are unlikely to do that, notes ASEAN NOW. Amon said he was uncertain whether monkeypox would become endemic in Thailand. The council itself contains no such warning about limiting sexual contact with foreigners according to their online page. But Amon was clearly worried. He said that the disease could get out of control if it spreads in monkeys, rabbits and rats. And there could even be deaths if human patients have underlying conditions like cancer or immune deficiency problems, he warned in comments to English print media. He said that people who develop fever, blisters and a red rash should take a monkeypox test immediately and isolate for three weeks. He also called for hotel operators to clean rooms in line with international standards to contain the spread. More than 20,000 cases have been found around the world with more than 5,000 in the US, he said, adding that the virus had been found in all but three US states. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 6. By Erich Parpart Thailand’s drug abuse problem has reached a new high as supply of methamphetamine (also called Yaba) has started to flood the market and price of each methamphetamine tablet has dropped to as low as 10 Baht. The widespread supply that has flooded the Thai market is stemming from Golden Triangle which has driven process in most provinces of Thailand down to less than one US dollar, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) told Thai Enquirer. “The drop in the Yaba price from traditional highs started 3 or 4 years ago as meth started flooding out of Shan State and the Golden Triangle, but it then dropped further and very fast in the past 18 months as armed groups including some of the smaller groups really increased tablet production,” said Jeremy Douglas, the Regional Representative of the UNODC for Southeast Asia and the Pacific. 23. 'Big Joke' gets TikTok attention! 24. File photo It's not everyday a policeman gets attention on TikTok, but that is exactly what has happened to the poster boy cop of the Royal Thai Police known as Big Joke. The post about the history and rise to fame of Pol Lt-Gen Surachate Hakpan got 12,500 likes and hundreds of shares on Yaman17 - as well as many comments. The four minute post follows Big Joke's rise from a humble cop in his southern province of Songkhla to his advisory and assistant role to Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk, RTP chief, today. Along the way Surachate - 52 in October and named after the popular rice gruel breakfast of "joke" - has set many records for being the youngest this or that. The post chronicles his rise to deputy at the tourist police, his role in 191, then as head of immigration in 2017. In each he was never out of the news, surrounding himself with a team of assistants including a beautiful cop who helped with English. Immigration chief was a role that didn't last very long and ended in mysterious circumstances as he was suddenly sidelined and found himself shuffling paper at the PM's office. Along the way before his fall from grace he had established a strong working and some say personal relationship with DPM Prawit "Big Pom" Wongsuwon, the right hand man to premier Prayuth Chan-ocha or Uncle Too. During his time in the relative wilderness he was the subject of a shooting incident in Suriwong, Bangkok. Some say this and his fall were connected to his criticism of immigration's controversial 2 billion baht biometrics system or the stepping on senior RTP toes. Now rehabilitated he has been put in charge of reviewing Suwat's Smart Safety Zone 4.0 community policing initiative, anti-human trafficking drives and illegal fishing. Southern posters on the TikTok site were clearly celebrating one of their own having made good but many were speculating on Surachate becoming RTP chief one day. Others even think the charismatic, media savvy and handsome cop could have a career in politics one day. Now that would be no joke! -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
