  2. Daily News Thai Caption: Hawking Ya Ba Daily News reported the arrest of a man in Chiang Mai after a tip from an informant that drugs were being peddled in the northern Thai city. Khajornkiat, 30, was arrested with 238,000 Ya Ba he had stashed at a cemetery building in Mae Rim. A Toyota pick-up was taken into evidence after an initial arrest in the parking lot of a well known downtown shopping mall. The suspect had been trying to sell the drugs on the cheap as a job lot to get out of debt. The media said he was willing to accept 3 million baht for the pills (meth mixed with caffeine) when the real street value when sold separately would be much higher. The media said 250 million baht but ASEAN NOW thinks they added a zero - 25 million would be more correct. The suspect said that he was supplied with the drugs by a man he met before his release from prison. Now he desperately needed 700,000 baht to repay him and was willing to go cheap. He blamed the economy for not being able to sell his stash. He faces charges for selling Class 1 drugs and a definite return to jail for an extremely long time. Investigations continue. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Shallow grave murders in Korat: Tsunami team brought in/ "Big Mai" arrives but case drags on Picture: INN The case of two people found murdered in a shallow grave in Thung Arun sub-district of Nakhon Ratchasima has now entered its fifth day of investigation with few new leads. 6. Picture: INN The case of two people found murdered in a shallow grave in Thung Arun sub-district of Nakhon Ratchasima has now entered its fifth day of investigation with few new leads. INN confirmed earlier suggestions with word coming from the forensic investigators at Maharat Hospital in Korat that the woman is Thai and the man a foreigner. They were both shot in the head before being encased in cement in a 1.5 meter deep pit in the woods 400 meters off the road. Yesterday at Chokchai police station the three task forces assembled to investigate - local, provincial and regional - compared notes over three hours. Picture: INN The press were excluded and following the meeting investigators continued quickly about their business without comment. Royal Thai Police deputy commander Gen Suchart Theerasawat was due to arrive in the area at 3 pm. He is a very senior policeman referred to as "Big Mai" (big new). Hopefully he could find out something new or hurry the investigation along. The only other development was that experts who worked on the investigation to determine the identity of victims of the Asian tsunami in 2004 have been called in to examine the fingerprints of the deceased. Picture: INN This is because their prints have seriously degraded after weeks in the ground. There has been a slow drip-feed of information coming in the case since Saturday but few definitive leads. For example the woman had several tattoos and it was initially believed a chip from silicone used in breast enhancement surgery would lead to her identification. How investigators could ascertain that the man was a foreigner has yet to be precisely articulated leading to much speculation. Immigration and Thailand based registration departments are still working to determine who they are. Both bodies were naked and had been shot in the head, with casings reportedly found near to the bodies and a place nearby where cement was mixed. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 18. by Joseph O' Connor Political naiveté on the part of the leading Pheu Thai Party in believing that the coalition government, through the electoral reform process, was going to gift it the means to achieve an outright majority. This has been evident since April this year and yet the party continued with the charade. Now with an impressive victory in the censure debate in July and changes underway to see a return to the one ballot voting process, not only is the government looking like it will survive until a snap election is called but there is now an increased likelihood of a return of a coalition government if not led by General Prayut Chan ocha then by his ‘brother in arms’ General Prawit Wongsuwan. July was a significant month in Thai politics. First of all, it saw the government survive what looked like the most dangerous censure motion since 2019 despite potentially damaging revelations about monthly payments to smaller parties revealed by Setthakij Thai Party (Thai Economic Party) leader Thamanat Prompow. This weekend saw political scientists accept that Prime Minister Prayut Chan ocha and his unwieldy coalition government appear on course to finish their term although a snap election is predicted to be called at the end of the year. 20. By Erich Parpart 90 seconds is how long a manufacturer of a new aircraft has to demonstrate that all passengers can be evacuated in an emergency or else the plane would not be allowed to fly. That is one of the reasons why cabin crews are being trained to evacuate an entire aircraft in less than 90 seconds, after the order to evacuate is made. The person to make the decision on when to evacuate is the captain. In the case of the Sunday night incident at Mae Fah Luang International Airport in Chiang Rai, the decision to evacuate the passengers was made more than an hour after the 7-year-old Nok Air flight DD108 skidded off the runway. 24. file photo. Credit: Tim Rees/Airliners.net OPINION Last week we ran a news story stating that British Airways was snubbing Bangkok by delaying plans to resume flights in favour of running flights out of Singapore. This was after the Airports of Thailand (AOT) President Nitinai Sirismatthakarn had met with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to discuss the lack of flight connections to Thailand. At this meeting, AOT revealed that currently, they were only operating at 33% of the level seen in 2019. It comes as British Airways confirmed it was postponing plans to resume its London to Bangkok service from the end of the year. Meanwhile, Thai Airways is one of the only airlines running direct daily flights to London; their capacity is up 600% with more daily passengers. Eva Air is running direct flights to London but not on a daily basis. It was obviously a topic that caught people’s eye and so far, we have had 6,000 views and over 90 replies. Seems many of you do not favour flying with BA anyway. Here is a cross-section of some of your comments: Probably a lot of business class fares to rake for BA on the Singapore route. Whereas Bangkok is becoming more of a bucket and spade destination. Central, north & northeast UK can still travel to Thailand via Dubai. Cuts out a hectic and expensive trip to Heathrow. BA are not stupid, as they will have done the research. The proposed charter flights for Thai Airways out of London can only be done through Gatwick, as they have only two slots at Heathrow both of which they currently use (Phuket and BKK). As Heathrow and Gatwick are asking for airlines to cut passenger numbers because they cannot cope, there is more to this story than meets the eye. They can only hope Eva (if they haven't already) schedule their direct London BKK route and that middle Eastern airline who also offer a far superior service, do so also. Having recently flown Thai on the LHR BKK route the service was appalling. Food inedible. Cutbacks on inflight entertainment was a joke. They think we don't notice but we do. Would that be the 'win' of (pre pandemic) BA making £2 billion profit while Thai airways went bankrupt? Its pretty clear BA's commercial managers are in a different league to Thai. There is reduced capacity for air travel and BA have realised there is more profit and reliability with other routes rather than the flip-flopping uncertainty of Thai officials. They’d long ago switched their Australia stop over from Bangkok to Singapore which indicates a trend. After many years of good service, I slowly got fed up with the offhand treatment and horror of transit in Heathrow.... and stopped using them. But I gave them a chance when a reasonably priced Club World ticket showed up three or so years ago.... an error on my part! British Airways has nothing British about it these days, it is a Spanish company, and pretty much a disgrace …it took millions in government handouts then sacked a lot of staff. It should be stripped of its name in my book. It’s doing a disservice to the name British and trading on a false name in the pursuit of profit. I did the Thai Airways Heathrow route last month and was pleasantly surprised. New plane, clean, good service and kept my glass topped up. Last few times I have gone the middle east route. Like Emirates, Qatar a lot but one flight is far better for me. Over the years I flew Eva Air BKK-LHR maybe 7 times, and can confirm that they're nicer than Thai, the best direct flight. Thank you, I totally agree. During my 20 years living in Thailand, EVA AIR became my favored "direct" flight choice. Never flown to/from BKK with BA - always too expensive! On one occasion, my EVA flight to LHR was full and I was asked to "step down" being offered 1,000-baht cash, a hotel for the night in Bangkok and a seat on the next day's flight. As it turned out, this was not necessary as EVA re-booked me with THAI Business Class at no extra cost - I was a happy bunny!! The old 747's that BA ran on the BKK - LHR route were the oldest planes in the BA fleet and were in constant need of repairs. Delays caused by technical problems were a routine occurrence on that route. Have a work colleague whose son was on a BA flight LHR to BKK, and he was marooned for 48 hours in Athens, 2019, waiting for the plane to be repaired and declared fit to fly after an emergency landing there due to a fault! So maybe there will not be many of you sorry to see Spanish BA stay out of the BKK airspace for now. It is probably wise to stay clear of Heathrow any way unless you are keen to lose your luggage! -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
