Data collected from 352 COVID-19 patients admitted to the hospital from September 2021 show that 82 percent had at least one long-COVID symptom. (Photo by Fusion Medical Animation) An announcement has been issued by Chief of Thailand’s defence forces, Gen. Chalermpol Srisawat, in his capacity as the chief officer in charge of solving emergency situations related to security affairs, and published in the Royal Gazette yesterday, banning unauthorised public assemblies and gatherings in the wake of clusters COVID-19 infections resulting in a rising number of hospitalisations, severe cases and fatalities, despite more people getting their vaccine booster doses. The move is in line with and complementary to the State of Emergency, in place since March 2020 and extended for the 19th time to the end of September 2022. Despite calls by pro-democracy and rights groups for the Emergency Decree and related bans to be scrapped, claiming that the restrictions have been used to suppress political movements and freedom of expression, the Decree remains and is expected to stay until at least November, when Thailand hosts the 2022 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Summit. Under the terms of this edict, police can seek help from the military to enforce the ban and anyone who violates it is liable to two years imprisonment and/or a fine of 40,000 baht if convicted. Gatherings are allowed only when permission isgranted by authorities concerned. CAAT investigating Nok Air accident, passengers complain about time taken to leave the aircraft The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) said in a press release yesterday (Monday) that it has summoned officials and pilots of Nok Air and officials of Mae Fah Luang-Chiang Rai airport to provide an explanation of the incident tomorrow. The pilot insists that he complied strictly with the emergency evacuation checklist, said the CAAT, adding that airport fire trucks arrived at the plane within a minute of being alerted that the plane had skidded off the runway. The CAAT was also told by airport officials that they normally use an aerobridge to move passengers from an aircraft to the passenger terminal, so there are only a limited number of buses available to transfer passengers. Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath went to investigate after a couple in Seka district of Bung Kan in the north east of Thailand won 12 million baht in the state lottery that was drawn yesterday. Khwanjai, 41, and her husband Sombat had just bought a six wheel truck with the number 5094 that they used as a basis for selecting tickets - 436594 came up. Khwanjai said she usually buys just 2 or 3 tickets but this time she'd purchased 7 and two of those came up netting them the 12 million first prize. Picture: Thai Rath Bucking the trend of Thai lottery winners she said she hadn't had any dream revelations but she believed that good family relations were key in their good fortune. She said that they take great care of her dad who has heart problems and the lottery win may have something to do with that. 77kaoded Thai Caption: A willing wife 77kaoded went to investigate after a TikTok post under the name Natpattheema789 went viral garnering 1.7 million views and multiple shares. It featured a wife who said she was depressed and unable to cater to the needs of her husband. So she wanted him to have not one but three mia nois (mistresses). There were some strings attached. Picture: 77kaoded The successful applicants needed to be 30-35, have finished high school or uni and had to be willing to work for which they'd be paid at least 15,000 baht a month. The mia luang (main wife) said they would be treated well. Nat, 44, said it was true. She was on meds and her husband has to work and when she suggested the plan he agreed. She hoped that the successful applicants would cater to his needs and be friends to her too. The husband said in a video that he was surprised by the TikTok post but would go along with his wife's wishes and understood her point of view. He said it wasn't just about sex. Both husband and wife seemed quite genuine, notes ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. A post on a "so you wanna be famous" site on Facebook featured the activities of large groups of young people annoying the locals in Mukdahan in the north east of Thailand. The kids were revving their bikes in a scenic area known as Chong Khao Khat where tourists love to take pictures. Local Nong Sung police chief Pol Col Jaturong Klinsrisuk went with Siam Rath reporters to the scene yesterday. He explained that young people were meeting up in the area. His men had tried to stop the annoyance but they had peeled off down sois and escaped. They were now looking at CCTV to try and trace the miscreants who had evaded them. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Cannabis Cafes Open New Front in Thai Tourism Revival Effort
webfact posted a topic in Thailand News
by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - Several cannabis cafes have sprung up across Bangkok since Thailand decriminalized the plant in June, a few weeks before it dropped pandemic-linked controls on foreign visitors. Foreign arrivals shrank to 2 million in the first half of 2022 from nearly 40 million in 2019, and many cannabis cafe owners view their venues as central to efforts to revive a tourism industry that contributed about 12% to GDP before the pandemic struck. In 2018, Thailand became the first Southeast Asian country to legalize marijuana for medical use. In June, the entire cannabis plant was decriminalized. A parliamentary committee is currently debating a bill to regulate cannabis use that is expected to finalize in September and could impact the cannabis cafes. "Stubborn" child, 11, was chained up and whipped by grandparents in NE Siam Rath reported on a alarming case of abuse of a young female child in P4 (the fourth year of primary education) by her grandparents. Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath reported on a alarming case of abuse of a young female child in P4 (the fourth year of primary education) by her grandparents. A clip of the abuse had been posted by a concerned neighbor after it escalated. It appeared on Facebook on a page called "Mai Roo - Leum Laew" (Don't know, I've forgotten). Following the post child welfare and other authorities went to the house in Nong Khoo sub-district of Buriram where they took eleven year old "A" into care. She said that she was chained up and whipped by her paternal grandfather and grandmother and was not allowed to play with her friends. She said she was lonely. Sometimes her neck was grabbed and she was scared. She was told that if she took the chain off she would be covered in red ants. The grandparents - named only as Black and Red said that the child who they had raised since her parents split up did not listen to them. They claimed that tying her up was for her own good as she had been involved in a molestation incident with a man called Love, aged 45. They called her "deu" or stubborn and said they tied her up while they went to work. A local trader called Chor said that he had witnessed the abuse and decided at first not to interfere but when it escalated he got his son to film and posted online to get the attention of the authorities. ASEAN NOW notes that many children are raised by grandparents in Thailand when they are either abandoned by their parents or due to the fact that parents must work to get money in other provinces. But some grandparents are unable to cope and resort to violence to try and control the children who they often see as "property". In this case no mention was made by Siam Rath of police action. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Public Health has ordered its provincial offices to survey the number of patients eligible for LAAB injections in each province. Authorities say LAABs are effective against the original strain of COVID-19 as well as substrains that are currently active. The first LAAB batch will be allocated to kidney failure patients who require dialysis, as well as organ and bone marrow transplant patients. These patients can consult their doctors for advice on receiving an LAAB injection. After the initial group has had their LAABs administered, the health ministry will expand its target to cover those at risk of developing severe symptoms or dying from COVID-19. LAABs have been certified for emergency use in the United States and United Kingdom, with Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration giving emergency use approval on June 27th. According to AstraZeneca, LAABs are 83% effective at reducing the risk of symptomatic COVID-19. There are an estimated 500,000 immunocompromised patients currently in Thailand, about 200,000 of whom are cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-08-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath reported on developments after 94 call center staff were extradited back to Thailand from Cambodia in a joint operation by the Thai and Cambodian police. Of the suspects 22 were named in warrants obtained by the Bang Khen (Bangkok) police, 4 in Udon Thani, 18 in Pahonyothin (Bangkok), 10 in Muang Chanthabiri and 25 in Tha Mai also in Chanthaburi in eastern Thailand. Yesterday at Pahonyothin police station in northern Bangkok the 18 suspects were taken to court where the police requested they be held for an inital 12 days on charges ranging from conspiracy to defraud and misrepresentation. Picture: Siam Rath ASEAN NOW has been reporting almost daily cases of call center fraud with the public in Thailand being bombarded with calls from various gangs. The usual modus operandi is to start with a recorded message that says people have been named in a drugs case or the like and they should press a number to speak to an operator. We advise you to put the phone down immediately. Even children have been targeted by the gangs who are skilled in isolating the vulnerable after random calls are made using VOIP. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-02 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
