Picture: 77kaoded A forager called Sanam told 77kaoded that he saw a corpse propped up against a Bo Tree on a deserted mountain in Ratchaburi, south central Thailand. The dead body had a rope around its neck. That was enough for Sanam to flee down the mountain in terror and report his find to a phu yai ban (local official) in Thammasen sub-district who contacted the police and rescue services. It was a densely forested area and the rescuers split up into three teams to conduct the search. There were many Bo Trees to examine and at one point one team detected the smell of putrefaction but found no body. They walked for many kilometers. One team was scared witless when a snake appeared and they ran away in fear. The rescue was further hampered by the lack of mobile phone coverage. As dusk fell after a three hour search, and with the teams having no lighting gear, they decided to give up the search for the day. Consequently the hanging corpse remains on the mountain for at least another day. Khao Din police were involved in the rescue. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News Thai Caption: Call center HQs raided Daily News reported that Thailand's so called cyber cops or technology police along with AIS raided 14 places in Chonburi province making arrests and evidence seizures. It involved the use of automated IP BPX (Internet Protocol Private Branch Exchange) machines. The raids were mostly in 16 rooms in Bang Lamung, Pattaya. Seized were 101 IP BPX machines, wi-fi routers and one arrest was made of a manager who was charged with fraud and computer crime that would likely result in the public being defrauded. Picture: Daily News This latest move followed eight earlier raids in Bangkok on July 6th in Bang Na, Huay Khwang and Ladprao where IP PBX devices used to defraud the public were also seized. This led to further investigations with AIS over signals and led them to Pattaya. The 101 machines seized can make automated calls amounting to almost 50 million a month. It is likely that many of our readers have received such calls, notes ASEAN NOW. They often start with a Thai message saying "You have been named in a criminal case..." The two day ban will be in place on Wednesday (July 13) and Thursday (July 14) and will begin from midnight tonight through to midnight on Thursday. Thai mother sold her daughter for sexual molestation for 3,000 baht - she took a video and that's what trapped her Picture: Thai Rath Before human trafficking police arrived Thai Rath managed to interview a Saraburi mother who sold her nine year old daughter for a sex molestation session with a man for 3,000 baht. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1265633-thai-mother-sold-her-daughter-for-sexual-molestation-for-3000-baht-she-took-a-video-and-thats-what-trapped-her/ -
Picture: Thai Rath Before human trafficking police arrived Thai Rath managed to interview a Saraburi mother who sold her nine year old daughter for a sex molestation session with a man for 3,000 baht. In addition she filmed the session making a further few baht. This ended up on social media being viewed by netizens and has now resulted in her arrest. Reporters went to a house in the Don Phut police jurisdiction where they interviewed "A", aged 26 the mother of "B", now 10. She said a man contacted her on Facebook early last year and offered to pay money to do things with her daughter at a hotel in Nakhon Pathom. She filmed the illegal sex acts herself and never thought it would get out into the public domain and wondered how that happened. It was meant to be just for the man and he gave her 500-800 baht extra. She said she only did this once. She claimed she was poor and had no money and now says she won't do it again. She recognises now that what she did was wrong. Facing expected human trafficking charges she won't get the chance, notes ASEAN NOW. She is likely to be imprisoned for a very long time. Online condemnation was swift and damning. At 8.20pm last night Thailand's anti-human trafficking police, Don Phut cops, provincial police, tech police and social services descended on the house and took "A" away. It was unclear what happened to "B". "A" was interrogated at the local police station for two hours. "C" - the stepfather - said that he had known "A" for 5-6 years and looked after her two children as his own. On the day in question he said that he had driven his wife to Nakhon Pathom. She left him at a department store saying that she had something to do with the nine year old child. He thought nothing of it and on their return his stepdaughter was fine and went to school as normal. It appears they were picked up by the man who took mother and daughter to the hotel for the molestation and video. He said that the children called him "Pa" or dad and he loved them as his own. He said he was an electrical meter checker and he earned plenty of money to take care of the family. This perhaps is the most damning comment of all coming as it does after the mother's claims of poverty as a reason for selling her daughter, notes ASEAN NOW. More on this disturbing case as we hear of it. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Fans of Liverpool/Utd furious: Early ticket holders paid double, criticism of shambles "years in the making" Picture: Thai Rath It should have been a proud occasion for Thailand - the first ever meeting of two legends of English football on Thai soil. Picture: Thai Rath It should have been a proud occasion for Thailand - the first ever meeting of two legends of English football on Thai soil. But the much vaunted "Big Match" between Liverpool and Manchester United that kicks off today has descended into shambles. This after "The Match Bangkok Century Cup 2022" had been planned for years. Thai Rath reported that the latest drama surrounding the event - and there have already been many - was that tickets were being sold yesterday outside Rajamangala stadium for half price. This was making those who had paid early bird prices furious. Tickets for 7,000 baht were going for 3,500 baht, 14,000 for 7,000 and 15,000 for 7,500 baht. The media said that "Reds Fans" were terribly disappointed before a ball had even been kicked. Many were complaining that the match was on a weekday and not the weekend, superstar Christiano Ronaldo, United's number 7, was not coming and now the 50% discount that was a real kick in the teeth for those that paid the full price. Many wondered how an event planned for several years could be such a shambles. However, when the media went to the stadium they found no tickets being sold at all - the booths had been hurriedly cleared away. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News Thai Caption: Jap chai was the reason Daily News reported on the latest online "drama" after a female customer went on a Facebook page that translates as "We are the customers". Comment was rife on the story after the woman explained how she had ordered the mixed vegetable dish jap chai and asked for a bowl too. They sent an old plastic bowl that had been used before, not a new one. She asked other netizens what they thought. She said she couldn't accept that. Though she acknowledged that the food was only ten baht for the dish in a plastic bag with ten baht extra for rice. She said it was 2 am and nothing else was available. She felt that she should have been given a new bowl having asked for one. If they had sent nothing at all she would have been ok with that. At the least the "rider" (delivery guy) should have been told and explained. She accepted that times were tough and overheads high. Onliners were split in their opinions, said Daily News. Half said she was right but the other half criticized her for being picky. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1265620-thailand-marks-25-years-since-jomtien-hotel-fire-that-killed-81-exits-locked-stairwells-blocked-sprinklers-not-working/ -
Daily News Thai Caption: 25 years since the tragedy Daily News reported that the Facebook page of Boran Naan Maa marked the 25th anniversary of the fire at Royal Jomtien Resort in Pattaya that killed 81 guests and injured 74. Information elsewhere varied. There were 800 people staying at the luxury hotel, many for a seminar but many died because of locked fire exits. Many jumped to their deaths. Sprinkler systems didn't work. Fire hoses could only reach to the 10th floor yet the fire spread to the 16th floor of the 17 story four star hotel. Everything appeared normal on July 11th 1997 as staff in the ground floor kitchens put away the breakfast service. But a gas appliance was not closed properly and there was a leak. When the smell of the gas was noticed the problem was compounded by the valve being opened rather than shut creating a worse leak. The gas ignited from stoves being used to cook. The fire quickly spread to the 2nd and 3rd floors including the seminar room. Within two hours it was raging on the 16th floor. Picture: Daily News The alarm system and pump that worked the sprinklers were not working. There was widespread panic. People trying to escape down the stairwells found exits locked and blocked with things like chairs and other items. The hotel was using the stairs to store stuff. Most of the people died in this way. Others were seen desperately waving for help from windows as smoke filled their rooms. Some unable to breathe jumped to their deaths. Picture: Daily News Fire trucks attending the fire could only use hoses up to the 10th floor, reported the Facebook site. ASEAN NOW notes that details on the Wikipedia page vary suggesting that 91 people died from burns, asphyxiation and thermal trauma. It says 63 were injured. Six Hungarians, three South Koreans and one Belgian were among the dead including dozens of hotel employees, conference attendees and tourists. "The practice of locking emergency exit doors to prevent guests from leaving without paying their bills greatly increased the number of casualties" says Wiki. Picture: Daily News The managing director and president of the majority shareholder in the hotel were later charged. The hotel since changed its name to Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel, added Wiki. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-12 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
