Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and Russia's President Vladimir Putin File photo The mysterious death last week of a prominent critic of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine in Washington’s West End neighborhood, coupled with the recent car bomb attack on a Putin ally, is drawing fury from some of the Kremlin’s best-known global detractors. Will this pressure speed up the removal of President Putin to make way for a new President? Although officially the next in line behind Putin would be Dmitry Medvedev, who has been serving as the deputy chairperson of the Security Council of Russia since 2020. However, a former KGB comrade of Vladimir Putin's, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev could be selected as the most likely candidate to take the Russian president's place in power, according to the former head of British intelligence. Back in February 2018 Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, paid a working visit to Bangkok. He was received by H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. Mr. Nikolai Patrushev also held meetings with H.E. General Prawit Wongsuwon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Thailand and H.E. General Wanlop Rugsanaoh, Secretary-General of the National Security Council of Thailand. Mr. Nikolai Patrushev and General Prayut Chan-o-cha discussed a broad range of issues in the Russian-Thai relations with a focus on interaction in enhancing international and regional security. So at least the Thai government has had dialogue before. As reported by Business Insider, speculation over a possible Putin replacement has been a topic of conversation recently due to a variety of news that the Russian President’s health could be in decline. Kremlin insiders and Russian society have even behind closed doors have discussed what would happen if Putin were forced out over the Ukrainian invasion or succumbs to a hypothetical illness. Sir Richard Dearlove, who served as head of the UK's Secret Intelligence Service from 1999 to 2004, claimed that the most likely heir candidate is Nikolai Patrushev, the secretary of Russia's Security Council and a longtime Putin ally known to be one of the exceedingly few officials to have the president's trust. The former MI6 chief has previously theorized about Putin's likely longevity. Dearlove has been known to predict that Putin could be forced into a medical facility for long-term illness in an effort to remove the president without a coup. The Kremlin has strenuously denied that the President is suffering from any health issues, and Putin himself said in June that such claims were "greatly exaggerated." Over in the States, CIA Director William Burns this month also dispelled rumors about the state of Putin's health, saying "as far as we can tell, he's entirely too healthy." But questions do remain, and Patrushev's emergence as a dependable front man are gaining momentum A spokesperson for the Russian Security Council brushed aside that Patrushev is seeking any advancement. Still, it seems experts consider Patrushev a man to watch. But whether Patrushev or any other selected replacement would last, is another question entirely, the experts said. And would the Russian foreign policy remain, and could we hope for in a new President with a more peaceful attitude? We will just have to watch this space. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-30 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Anucha Burapachaisri, deputy secretary-general to the prime minister and acting government spokesman, said Thailand's street foods continued to impress international consumers as CNN Travel included the three dishes of Thai street foods in its “50 of the best street foods in Asia”. According to Mr Anucha, CNN Travel preferred the taste of Thailand's crab omelet ( Khai Chiao Pu ) to other egg dishes. The combination of egg and crab made the dish both crispy and fluffy. Its taste would be further enhanced if it was consumed with sweet chilli sauce, CNN Travel said. Picture: Siam Rath The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES) said that cases of fake news regarding storms and natural disasters were on the rise as Thailand faces daily monsoon weather. Noppawan Huajaiman was commenting on the monitoring of stories in the news for the period August 19th to 25th. One fake news report spoke of nine storms all coming at the same time that would inundate Bangkok with flooding while another spoke of three storms coming all together, reported Siam Rath. She advised the public to get their weather news from the Meteorological Department on their website or by calling 1182 or 02 399 4547, available 24/7. ASEAN NOW went to the website and discovered for Bangkok from today to September 4th residents could expect temperatures from 25-35C with rain storms daily covering 40-80% of the capital. Noppawan said that in the past week fake news about storms made up 10% of the total number of cases that were investigated. 166 cases were investigated and 14 were about storms. In the period under review fake news about Covid was down to single figures, she said. The three top fake news cases were 3,000 jobs being offered in South Korea at 70K a month, loans of 5,000 baht to 300,000 baht being offered via Line from the Government Savings Bank and #3 a bogus report about the GSB having a new online page. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-08-29 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Siam Rath Siam Rath reported on a domestic dispute that ended in tragedy in Phrapradaeng, Samut Prakan, central Thailand in the early hours of Sunday morning. The media said in their headline that a husband had attacked his wife who stabbed him to death. Pol Capt Chai Phonsri of the Phrapradaeng police went to three story business premises in Bang Khru where they found Sitthikorn, 26, face up with a stab wound to the left side of his chest by the entrance on the ground floor. Two 23 centimeter fruit paring knives were by the body. Picture: Siam Rath There were signs of struggle throughout the property. Nichawan, 25, his wife had stabbed him to death. She said that it was a family dispute and that the victim was her new husband. She has a nine year old daughter. The struggle continued through the house and at one point he grabbed a blanket and she struck out with the knives. She said she didn't mean to kill him, a knife got him in an artery and he died subsequently. She called an ambulance and her younger sister. She was taken away for questioning and prosecution.
