  4. Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported that the metropolitan police were looking for two men riding a motorcycle one of whom produced a gun and shot another motorcyclist in the back at a red light on Pahonyothin Road in Bang Khen, northern Bangkok yesterday afternoon. This followed an earlier incident in which the assailants were enraged that the victim looked at them. One of the men produced a knife. Bang Khen police and Ruam Katanyu rescue were first on the scene at the red lights on Pahonyothin Road near the end of Soi 50 around 3pm. Lying in the road barely alive was Natthakorn Maleewong, 28, a general repairman who had been shot once in the center of the back. After being given CPR at the scene he was taken to CGH Hospital where he was pronounced dead. At the scene was a toppled Honda Wave. The area was taped off as forensics began looking for clues. A trader at the scene said she had heard people arguing. The victim was alone on his bike. Two men on a white lady's bike were dressed in dark clothing in full face helmets. Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe One shot rang out and the victim fell. The two men then fled "towards Thepparak Road". Jirasan Ariyasat, 26, a friend of the deceased said they were riding on two separate bikes going to do a job at a condo near CGH Hospital. At the end of Pahonyothin Soi 69 they came up against two men on a bike who asked the victim what he was looking at. One tried to slash the victim with a knife but didn't connect. The men then fled. Natthakorn chased after them. The men then did a U-turn and subsequently came up behind them at the lights at the end of Soi 50 when a further argument ensued and a gun of unknown caliber was produced by the pillion passenger and his friend was shot in the back. Jirasan said that he had no idea who the men were and that he and his buddy had no problems with anyone. It appeared to be a totally random attack, notes ASEAN NOW. Met deputy Pol Maj-Gen Chokchai Ngamwong at the scene said that the two men were dressed in black jackets with tracksuit bottoms with identical full face helmets. They were riding a white Honda PCX with no registration plate. Police are studying CCTV on the route before and after the altercation to get a lead in the case. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-05-26 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 8. file photo Outgoing Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte sharply criticized Russian leader Vladimir Putin for the killings of innocent civilians in Ukraine, saying while the two of them have been tagged as killers, "I kill criminals, I don't kill children and the elderly." Duterte, who openly calls Putin an idol and a friend, voiced his rebuke for the first time over Russia's invasion of Ukraine in remarks aired Tuesday where he blamed the three-month old war for the spike in global oil prices that has battered many countries, including the Philippines. While stressing he was not condemning the Russian president, Duterte disagreed with Putin's labeling of the invasion as a "special military operation," and said it was really a full-scale war waged against "a sovereign nation." Country named as "Biohub" by impressed WHO - Anutin praised Picture: Thai Rath Thailand's DPM and health minister Anutin Charnvirakul - who spent much of the pandemic under intense pressure - was all smiles in Geneva yesterday as the kingdom received glowing praise from the World Health Organization and its director general Dr Tedrom Ghebreyesus, notes ASEAN NOW. 16. Picture: Thai Rath Thailand's DPM and health minister Anutin Charnvirakul - who spent much of the pandemic under intense pressure - was all smiles in Geneva yesterday as the kingdom received glowing praise from the World Health Organization and its director general Dr Tedrom Ghebreyesus, notes ASEAN NOW. Thai Rath reported that Anutin and the WHO have agreed that Thailand should be declared a BIOHUB. They pictured Anutin and Dr Tedros shaking hands in a picture lifted from Facebook. Anutin was in Switzerland attending the 75th congress of the World Health Assembly. Anutin said that Thailand's Covid response had employed "soft power using Thainess - smile first, wai first and that will make a hard task appear much easier". This showed how far the country had come from the early days of the pandemic when Anutin got embroiled in a spat with a non-mask wearing foreigner, had his own mask wearing issues and presided over delays in the procurement of imported and locally produced vaccine, notes ASEAN NOW. All that was in the past as Anutin said that Thailand had been lauded for its Covid-19 response after a WHO team was sent to the country to discover how they did it. Thailand was praised for preventing disease, its vaccination program, medical treatment for infected people and strong health care system. So much so that the country is now the first to be named in a joint collaboration with the WHO making the country a BIOHUB for collecting existing pathogens, study and research and development of drugs and vaccines. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Thailand is the first country in the world to enter such an agreement because "we are the most ready", according to the minister. Meanwhile this was confirmed by Dr Tedros on Twitter who thanked Anutin for his efforts in ensuring that 70% of the population was vaccinated. This was a key aim since vaccines became available during the pandemic. In addition Dr Tedros said that Thailand was committed to vaccine equality and welcomed the country's cooperation in sharing knowledge about its universal health insurance scheme (the so called Gold Card). ASEAN NOW further notes that there was much consternation among Thai watchers that the country would not treat everyone equally. This proved unfounded as foreigners in the kingdom lined up alongside Thais for their jabs. Most even getting their vax for free. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-05-26 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
