Silicon Valley has changed how we control our day-to-day being, and conservationists are also demanding us to take care of the planet too. So, are we and the citizens of Thailand going to be ready, or will the country be left behind? In a recent interview looking ahead to the next decade, Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, governor of the Bank of Thailand thought the world will be defined by two major trends: sustainability and technology. It is of course no secret that Bangkok’s future is at risk with rising sea levels, so something needs to be done soon to protect the city, otherwise like Jakarta, the capital may have to move to higher ground. "Digital technology will be the other transformative force going forward. More efficient computers have allowed us to collect and make use of a quantity of data that was previously unimaginable," Suthiwartnarueput said. So, if these predictions come true, what will life be like in 10 years? The workforce of the future will be more flexible with certain services and companies finding their skilled staff will never need to enter an office again. Where we work will be relevant. So, it is likely that large resorts that are standing empty, may change from attracting short-stay tourists into becoming attractive to families whose parents prefer to work online. Working besides the beach has to be preferred to being cooped up in a city condominium. Mass tourism will give way to small groups of eco-conscious travelers, and national park regulations will be updated with sustainability in mind. Along with the service sector, agriculture and manufacturing will experience a major shift as well. “Consumers' growing concerns about sustainability and health has led to green product categories that are able to command higher prices,” Suthiwartnarueput said. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is urging everyone to get inoculated against COVID-19 before the Songkran festival in mid-April and has opened six vaccination facilities offering walk-in inoculation. According to the BMA’s public relations office, members of the public can visit any of the facilities to receive vaccine shots without the need for an appointment. The locations include the Bangkok Youth Centre (Thai-Japanese) at Din Daeng, from 8am until 4pm. It is closed from April 13th to 17th. The company’s president, Pachara Metsiyaporn, made the announcement online on Sunday evening. He said the company will still sell tickets and offer the prize redemption service for the April 1 rotation, adding that physical tickets can also be collected after the date. He also reiterated that lottery tickets sold by his company exist in both digital and physical formats. Police earlier raided the company’s headquarters and seized 2 million lottery tickets after it was found to have sold overpriced tickets via its online platform. The operation was launched after police were tipped off that the company had purchased more than 2 million tickets from quotas allocated to officially licensed vendors. by Natthaphon Sangpolsit BANGKOK (NNT) - The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has indicated that breast cancer is a major public health problem for women around the world and is the most common cancer for women in Thailand. According to Dr Somsak Akksilp, director-general of the Department of Medical Services (DMS), the World Health Organization (WHO) reported 2.3 million new breast cancer cases and 685,000 deaths worldwide due to breast cancer in 2020. Data figures from 2021 meanwhile showed Thailand recorded 18,000 new cases and 4,800 fatalities. Officials have voiced concern that the number of cases in the country could rise to around 22,000 cases next year. Although research is still being conducted to determine the exact causes, the director-general said studies have revealed factors associated with an increased risk of developing breast cancer, including genetic mutation, advanced age, lack of physical activity, obesity and alcohol consumption. She said symptoms of early-stage breast cancer include lumps in the breast or armpit, changes in the size or shape of the breast, skin irritation or dimpling, or nipple discharges of fluids other than breast milk, including blood. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should immediately see a doctor to be diagnosed. Dr Chayanoot stressed that patients can make a full recovery if they receive treatment in the early stages of the cancer. DIP Deputy Director-General Jittima Srithaporn revealed that the operation was a joint effort between the department, the Royal Thai Police, the Customs Department, the Department of Special Investigation, and IP owners. During the operation, officials apprehended about 150 suspects, 113 of whom were arrested by the Royal Thai Police, who also seized nearly 42,500 items. Authorities from the Customs Department were responsible for the remaining cases, collecting about 3,000 counterfeit products. These included handbags, shoes, garments, hats and eye wares.
