By Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai-Muslim community in the southern region sees employment and economic opportunities after the restoration of diplomatic ties between Thailand and Saudi Arabia. The Thai-Muslim community in Nakhon Si Thammarat responded favorably to the latest development of Thai-Saudi diplomatic relations, as shown in a meeting between the villagers and government representatives. The meeting was joined by Mr. Tawee Prayat, who was deputized by a ministerial assistant at the Office of the Prime Minister. On this occasion, Mr. Tawee presented to the villagers the outcomes of the official visit to Saudi Arabia by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha. Villagers were said to be delighted with the development, which should make it easier for them to go on their religious pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina. Mr. Tawee said there are several job seekers in the southern region pinning hopes on employment opportunities in Saudi Arabia, as the country was once a top overseas employment destination for people of the Muslim community. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-02-02 - Aetna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 11. By Namo Vananupong BANGKOK (NNT) - AI cameras are now at work at Asok intersection in Bangkok spotting motorists who stop their vehicles atop crosswalks. Meanwhile, people who submit video clips of traffic rule violations now have a chance to win 20,000 baht in prize money. Asok junction, where Sukhumvit Rd. intersects Ratchadaphisek Rd., is busy day-round and is crossed by a large number of pedestrians each day. The crosswalks now sit on a red background that contains a message warning motorists of an applicable fine for stopping atop the area. AI cameras take photographs of traffic law violators, after which the AI system assembles the relevant information and issues traffic tickets that are then mailed to the address of the violator. With the introduction of the 20,000-baht prize money, the AI cameras are now complemented by groups of students and random individuals who attempt to record traffic law violations via their phones. Some motorists who spot the camera ambush try to rectify their error by backing their vehicles away from the crosswalks. Video clips of motorists who do not stop for pedestrians at crosswalks or who do not comply with the stoplight at crosswalks may be sent to the social media center of the Royal Thai Police Command Center, the “Asa Ta Charachon” Facebook, the Don’t Drive Drunk Foundation, JS 100 Radio’s Facebook and the FM91 Trafficpro Facebook. A submitted clip will be forwarded to the police station responsible for the respective locality and the clip owner will have a chance to win a monthly reward of 20,000 baht. The issue of crosswalks safety came under the spotlight in January, after the death of a specialist physician who was hit by a speeding motorcycle as she was crossing the road at a crosswalk in Bangkok. Pol. Col. Bawonphop Sunthara-rekha, the superintendent of Phaya Thai police station, revealed today (1 Feb) that the motorcycle rider has been handed two additional charges. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-02-02 - Aetna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 13. Picture: Manager Manager reported that top cops in Bangkok were scurrying to limit the damage after a long line of cops in Thong Lo were filmed waiting to get something. Met chief Lt-Gen Samran Nuanma instructed Region 5 of the met chief Maj-Gen Sophon Saraphat to investigate what was going on. Samran said it looked serious and could damage the image of the Thai police. Spokesman at RTP HQ Maj-Gen Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ek said the incident happened in Soi Thong Lo and might have been in connection with Chinese New Year. ASEAN NOW notes that at Chinese New Year some organisations hand out "treats" to the police in envelopes. But whether the unseemly queue to get a CNY bonus could possibly damage the force further is a matter for some conjecture. 20. 21. Picture: Thai Rath Thailand's DPM and Health Minister has once again praised his efforts and that of his health teams in helping Thailand get through the pandemic. He told Thai Rath that it won't be him who decides when the pandemic is over and it is declared endemic. That'll be up to the experts, he said, in a rare show of humility. Then it was back to the rhetoric. "You can trust us to be there with our continued efficiency," he gushed in Thai. "We've been through a lot together, and there's no going back now. "We'll always be there with the Thai public every step of the way for the good of everyone's health". He suggested that he had made all the right calls and that 115 million doses of vaccine had now been administered that were saving lives. He accepted that there were still many infections but serious cases were down and this could be attributed to his brilliant vaccine rollout that has saved the day. "It's because of the vaccine and the co-operation of the Thai public," he enthused. ASEAN NOW notes that the charismatic leader has designs on the Thai premiership, if and when Prayut Chan-ocha decides to call it a day. It hasn't all been plain sailing for the health minister. He courted international controversy at the start of the pandemic with unsavory comments about a "farang" who wouldn't accept his offer of a mask. Other non-mask wearing accusations were made but the billionaire bullet proof minister has survived when other country's health ministers have fallen by the wayside.
