  3. A tragic incident at a luxury hotel in Pattaya has left tourists in shock after a German national fell to his death. Police are now working to uncover the true motive behind this unfortunate event. This morning, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Radio Centre received reports of an individual falling from a height at a five-star hotel near Pattaya Beach, Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chon Buri Province. Upon receiving the call, the centre promptly coordinated with Thanya Udtong, an investigator from Pattaya City Police Station, and Pattaya Tourist Police, along with rescue volunteers, to rush to the scene. At the scene, both Thai and foreign tourists were visibly distressed, watching the unfolding event. Hotel staff attempted to manage the crowd, pushing onlookers away from the area and using metal barriers to cordon off the site. Approximately 10 metres from where the body was found, a white tent was used to cover the deceased. The victim was later identified as Martin Bernhard R., a 57-year-old German national. He was staying at the luxurious hotel adjacent to the shopping mall where his body was discovered. It was determined that Roder was staying in room 3303 on the 33rd floor. There were no signs of struggle or theft in his room, only allergy medication, which was collected as evidence by police. A staff member, who declined to be photographed, mentioned witnessing the body of the deceased plummeting from the building and hitting a plant pot near the entrance of the shopping mall, causing significant alarm among those present. Once the situation was under control, non-essential personnel were kept away from the scene, and the police were notified for further examination. Initially, investigator Thanya reported to Commander Navin Theerawit from Pattaya City Police Station. Coordination with the investigative police unit and forensic officers from Chon Buri’s second district began to determine the exact cause of death. The motive for this tragic event remains under investigation. “This is a very unfortunate incident, and we are committed to finding the truth behind it,” said a police spokesperson. The incident marks the fourth such tragedy this month. The first occurred on June 1, involving a 23-year-old Thai man. The second, on June 3, was a 38-year-old Russian tourist. The third, on June 4, involved a 43-year-old American tourist. Picture courtesy: Khaosod -- 2024-06-06 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe

  8. PM's Move to Appoint Ex-Deputy PM Wissanu Sparks Pheu Thai Unease Picture courtesy: Prachachat Thailand's Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has declared his readiness to explain his decision to appoint former Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam as an advisor to the Pheu Thai party members. This appointment has stirred unease among MPs who see it as bypassing the party’s own legal experts. 9. Thailand's Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has declared his readiness to explain his decision to appoint former Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam as an advisor to the Pheu Thai party members. This appointment has stirred unease among MPs who see it as bypassing the party’s own legal experts. Wissanu served as Deputy Prime Minister in the administration of former Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for nearly eight years. His new advisory role, however, does not come with an official position, salary, or formal asset declaration. Nonetheless, his involvement has reportedly caused some discontent among Pheu Thai MPs. The disquiet comes amid a separate controversy involving Phichit Chuenban, whom Prime Minister Srettha appointed as PM Office Minister despite Phichit’s tainted record. Facing charges by a group of 40 senators, Srettha enlisted Wissanu to help prepare a rebuttal statement for the Constitutional Court. Phichit has since resigned. Prime Minister Srettha assured that his absence from Pheu Thai party meetings was not to avoid confronting his critics over the Wissanu appointment. He promised to address the MPs' concerns once parliament reconvenes after the long recess, underscoring the importance of explaining his decisions to foster party unity. Srettha personally approached Wissanu, initially offering him a deputy prime minister position. Wissanu declined but agreed to be an unpaid advisor, willing to provide his legal expertise. Yesterday, Pheu Thai leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra sought to mitigate the MPs' unrest during a party meeting. She highlighted Wissanu's prior work with the Thai Rak Thai-led government and described him as a person of high capability with sincere intentions. Paetongtarn asked party members to view Wissanu's appointment positively, stressing the need for solidarity and cooperation to move forward. She cautioned that instability within the prime minister’s position would affect coalition parties and parliament, underscoring the necessity for unity to ensure governmental stability. 11. Authorities in Chon Buri have issued a stern caution to residents about purchasing vehicles with incomplete or suspicious documentation, following a recent incident involving a stolen licence plate that led to a wrongful accusation. Police from Mueang Chon Buri Police Station were called out yesterday after a report revealed that a black Mitsubishi Attrage was using a stolen licence plate reported missing on January 13. Upon arrival, officers met with 43-year-old Nokporn, the current owner of the Mitsubishi, and 45-year-old Sompong, the original owner of the stolen licence plate. Sompong provided a copy of the police report to confirm that the plate belonged to his white Honda City. Nokporn shared that he purchased the Mitsubishi from Sa Kaeo for 70,000 baht. The car came with the licence plate attached, and the seller promised to send the vehicle’s registration documents later, which never arrived. Nokporn revealed he often had to pay fines when stopped at police checkpoints due to the lack of proper documentation. Picture courtesy: MGR online Nokporn admitted he bought the car without knowing its full history, primarily using the vehicle to transport goods for sale at the local market. He advised potential car buyers to thoroughly check vehicle documents before making any purchase to avoid similar complications. Sompong recounted that a neighbour had informed him about a car with plates matching his stolen ones. On closer inspection, Sompong confirmed the plates were indeed his. Police have asked Nokporn to bring his car to the station for further investigations due to the lack of ownership documents. Should it be confirmed that the car was stolen, Nokporn could face legal charges. This incident underscores the risks tied to buying vehicles with incomplete documentation. Prospective buyers must verify all necessary paperwork and ensure the vehicle’s history is clear to avoid entanglement in legal troubles. 13. A Thai family claimed their young boy possessed a supernatural ability enabling him to see through objects from over 300 kilometers away, even with his eyes closed. The Red Skull Twitter account shared a video of the boy demonstrating his alleged superpowers. “Discover another young avenger! Reporters should get ready to test his ability. He has a supernatural visual ability that allows him to see things from over 300 kilometres away. He can cycle, can see numbers at the back of the banknote, and can select products at a convenience store with his eyes closed. “Thailand is becoming the world superpower soon with the mind connection and supernatural visual ability. What’s next?” In the video, the boy is seen with his eyes covered by a red eye patch, completing several challenges given to him by his family and relatives. He cycled with his eyes closed, correctly guessed snack brands in a convenience store, identified the colour of clothes inside a package, and guessed the numbers on a banknote. The family also claimed that the boy could see things over 300 kilometres away. They shared screenshots of conversations with relatives living far away to support their claims. In the conversations, the boy correctly guessed the colour of his aunt’s clothes, identified the objects in his relative’s bag, and even knew that his relative has food nearby. The video attracted the attention of many Thai netizens. Some suspected that the eye patch might not completely block his vision and called for relevant authorities to test the boy’s abilities. Others felt that it was fine for the family to believe in his abilities but they should not publicise them for money or other benefits. Many compared this case to another Thai boy, Nice, who claimed to have the ability to communicate telepathically, or mind connection. Nice and his family are currently facing criticism and questions about his alleged abilities, with some accusing his parents of fabricating the story for financial gain. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Twitter/ @RedSkullxxx Full story: The Thaiger 2024-06-06 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe
  14. Pregnant Husky Scalded with Hot Water by Owner, Sparks Outrage Picture courtesy: Siam Rath An appalling incident recently captured on video shows a pregnant Siberian Husky being scalded with hot water by its owner, who reacted violently after the dog ate some food without permission. full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1329080-pregnant-husky-scalded-with-hot-water-by-owner-sparks-outrage/
  15. An appalling incident recently captured on video shows a pregnant Siberian Husky being scalded with hot water by its owner, who reacted violently after the dog ate some food without permission. The video quickly went viral, prompting widespread outrage and calls for legal action against the owner. The footage reveals the owner tying up the dog in a bathroom and pouring hot water over it in a fit of rage. The burns left the dog severely injured, and the video sparked an outcry from viewers who demanded justice and immediate action. Reacting to the uproar, the owner decided to rehome the dog. The Siberian Husky found a new home in Nakhon Ratchasima on 18th May. The new owner, shocked by the dog's injuries, took it straight to a veterinary hospital for urgent treatment. At 9:30 am today, representatives from the SOS Animal Thailand Foundation filed a formal complaint with the Bang Phli Police Station in Samut Prakan, where the incident took place. They accused the dog’s former owner of animal cruelty, a crime taken seriously under Thai law. Kuson Sukaree, a representative from the foundation, stated that they brought witnesses to corroborate their claims. "The video clearly shows the owner repeatedly dousing the dog with hot water while it was tied up. The dog's injuries were extensive, and it was pregnant at the time," she said. Watchdog Thailand, another animal welfare organization, joined the legal effort, emphasizing the need for better understanding of Siberian Huskies’ behaviour before deciding to keep them as pets. They stressed that potential owners should educate themselves to prevent such tragic incidents. Further investigations revealed that the owner acted out of frustration during an argument with their partner and sent the video to their partner's friends as a form of venting. Despite its traumatic experience, the dog's condition is improving. The burns are healing, and the dog's weight is steadily increasing. Although wary of strangers, the dog is expected to make a complete recovery. The unborn puppies are also reportedly healthy and due to be born soon. This episode underscores the critical need for better awareness and enforcement of animal welfare laws in Thailand. It serves as a stark reminder of the responsibilities and consequences linked to pet ownership. WARNING! The video contains scenes that some viewers may find disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised. 17. Thai immigration officers cracked down on an immigrant accused of overcharging guests at a modest hotel in Bangkok's Phra Khanong district. Acting on an anonymous tip, the officers identified an African national, whose identity remains confidential, responsible for misleading foreign travellers. He reportedly charged 500 baht per night for rooms, starkly higher than the hotel's listed price of 300 baht. This inflated rate was exclusively targeted at foreign guests. To catch the suspect, officers booked a room undercover as tourists. Upon arrival, the suspect demanded the inflated 500 baht. Once the payment was made, they revealed their true identities and requested the suspect's identification. Panic-stricken, the suspect made an attempt to escape but was promptly apprehended. A deep dive into the biometric system revealed his lack of legal records. Authorities discovered he had entered Thailand through Malaysia in 2021 and had been working at the hotel for almost two years. His monthly salary ranged between 3,000 and 4,000 baht, supplemented by free accommodation and any additional money he extorted from guests. The police have pressed charges against the suspect for illegal immigration and working without authorization in Thailand. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to locate the Thai owner of the hotel, who also faces legal ramifications. This incident underlines the importance of vigilance and due diligence in preventing tourist exploitation. While the suspect's actions highlight the risks some may take for financial gain, the arrest serves as a stark reminder that authorities are committed to maintaining fairness and legality within the tourism industry. This case is expected to prompt stricter scrutiny and enforcement against similar activities, ensuring a fair experience for all visitors to Bangkok. 19. Bangkok authorities nabbed an Iranian businessman for allegedly defrauding his friend out of 21 million baht. The arrest was made public at a press conference on June 5 by the Immigration Bureau. The 61-year-old, identified only as Abul, was apprehended at a condominium on Romklao Road in the Lat Krabang district. The case began to unfold when an Iranian victim, who has chosen to remain anonymous, lodged a complaint with the Sriracha Police Station in Chon Buri last month. The victim accused Abul of tampering with a meeting minute report to claim ownership of a company land plot, which he subsequently sold. This fraudulent sale resulted in substantial financial loss for the victim and the company, amounting to over 21 million baht. After being confronted, Abul initially feigned innocence before disappearing to evade capture. Following an extensive investigation, officers were able to track Abul down to his condominium in Lat Krabang, where he was detained. While they did not disclose the date of the arrest, they confirmed that further legal proceedings are forthcoming. This incident adds to a series of high-profile fraud cases involving foreign nationals in Bangkok. In a related case, a Burmese woman sought justice after her Iranian ex-boyfriend, a former boxer, allegedly drugged her and stole valuables from her Phra Khanong condominium. Graphic courtesy: Siam Rath After consuming drug-laced yoghurt, the woman reportedly lost consciousness, allowing the suspect to escape with her belongings, worth over a million baht. The ex-boxer also allegedly transferred cryptocurrency valued at about 20 million baht from the victim’s phone. Although these incidents paint a troubling picture, local law enforcement remains committed to bringing these offenders to justice, following thorough and meticulous investigations.
