  2. A hospital has compensated a family with 30,000 baht after a one year old infant was mistakenly given the wrong medication. The child, who had fallen and hit his head in the bathroom, was taken to a hospital in Samut Prakan province to have a brain scan. During the journey to another hospital for a second scan, a nurse gave the toddler a sleeping pill to prevent them from moving during the procedure. However, the pill turned out to be TCA (trichloroacetic acid), an external-use medication for treating warts. This led to the child being admitted to the ICU at Ramathibodi Hospital. The hospital has since admitted its mistake, blaming the mix-up on similar packaging and colour of the two medicines, and has promised to conduct an urgent investigation. According to the recent update from a Facebook page, the hospital has taken responsibility for the oversight and has covered the initial expenses incurred by the child’s parents during their stay in the hospital. These costs include travel, meals, and personal items, totalling 30,000 baht. by Nattapong Westwood Photo courtesy of KhaoSod Full story: The Thaiger 2023-12-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Seven Prathum Thani Provincial Police officers and an alleged police spy turned themselves in at Pratunam Chulalongkorn Police Station in Bangkok on charges of extorting money and raping a female drug suspect. The officers allegedly gave them a lighter sentence in exchange for the money. The woman also accused a police officer in the group of raping her and demanding another 30,000 baht. 16. A drug addict killed a Thai teacher at a grocery store in the Isaan province of Chaiyaphum after the victim intervened in a dispute between him and his mother. The victim, 53 year old Thaweesak Chanpanya, was a teacher at Baan Na Raya School in the Phakdee Chumphon district of Chaiyaphum. He also ran a local grocery shop with his wife after work. Thaweesak suffered fatal injuries after the physical assault on December 9 and died in hospital three days later on December 12. Channel 3 reported that the murderer was a 25 year old Thai drug addict named Teerachai, who lived 100 metres away from Thaweesak’s shop. He is now under arrest and detained at Phakdee Chumphon Police Station. CCTV cameras at Thaweesak’s shop recorded the entire incident on December 9. The killer, Teerachai, was seen arguing with his mother in the shop. He demanded 200 baht from his mother to buy drugs but she refused. 17. Why Chinese tourists snub Thailand: New favourites revealed by Puntid Tantivangphaisa Photo courtesy of Benar News After 26 years of catering to Chinese tourists, a tour guide finds himself amid a revolution as travellers from Taiwan, India, and beyond take centre stage. 18. After 26 years of catering to Chinese tourists, a tour guide finds himself amid a revolution as travellers from Taiwan, India, and beyond take centre stage. Thailand, hopeful for a Chinese tourism resurgence post-pandemic, faces an unexpected plot twist as a surge of Taiwanese visitors, in particular, reshapes the narrative. Saichon Chounchou now handles a 20-person group of Taiwanese tourists. “Now my clients are Taiwanese. They are regular clients and generate revenue for many local communities as opposed to many Chinese on a zero-dollar tour.” Zero-dollar tourism, a longstanding bane in Thailand, involves Chinese tour companies steering visitors exclusively to Chinese-run establishments, depriving local businesses of potential earnings. In contrast, Saichon’s Taiwanese group opts for opulence, staying in a five-star hotel for five days at a whopping 100,000 baht per person. Government data shows that the Taiwanese influx is no fluke, with approximately 585,000 Taiwanese visitors to Thailand in the first 10 months of this year. With a new visa-free policy for Taiwanese visitors, this number is expected to soar. However, Thailand’s overall tourism revival post-Covid is unfolding more gradually than anticipated. by Puntid Tantivangphaisa Photo courtesy of Benar News Full story: THe Thaiger 2023-12-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 20. The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) unwrapped an audacious 10-year blueprint set to roll out 200 kilometres of spanking new expressways, aimed at slashing a whopping 30% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. The ambitious plan is the key to unlocking Thailand’s carbon neutrality by 2050, as revealed by EXAT Governor Surachet Laophulsuk at the electrifying Sustainability Forum 2024 hosted by Krungthep Turakij at BITEC Bangna in Bangkok. Surachet, with unwavering commitment, declared EXAT’s resolute stance against climate change, aligning the agency’s vision with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Over its 51-year history, EXAT has laid down more than 224 kilometres of expressway routes, effectively cutting traffic-induced greenhouse gas emissions by a staggering 400,000 tonnes annually. Speaking about the project Sustainable Urbanisation: Better Cities and Communities, Surachet outlined EXAT’s strategy to further extend the expressway network into urban and rural realms, providing a dual impact of reducing congestion in major cities and broadening transportation alternatives for the public. by Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of The Nation Full story: The Thaiger 2023-12-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
