  1. BANGKOK (TNA) – Real estate developer Sansiri Plc issued a statement, clarifying that Pheu Thai prime minister candidate, Mr. Srettha Thavisin was not involved in alleged tax avoidance regarding land transactions and the company always complies with the law in doing businesses. The company’s statement came after the allegations that Mr. Srettha’s involvement resulted in the government loss in revenue amounting to several hundred million baht. The company explained the land sale-purchase agreements between Sansiri and the sellers were legally structured to assign the tax liabilities, fees, and expenses related to the transfer of land ownership solely to the seller. It is the responsibility of the sellers to pay the aforementioned taxes. Sansiri’s role was limited to making full payment according to the agreed-upon price and receiving the land transfer. The company denies any involvement in any tax-related practices of the sellers as alleged and did not benefit from any tax savings or reduced expenses in the sellers’ land transfer process. Thailand is drafting a law to control the advertising of unhealthy food, in a bid to combat soaring rates of obesity in children. “The draft law will be presented to the Public Health Ministry later this year in the hope that it will take effect next year,” said Dr Saipin Chotivichien, director of the Nutrition Bureau in the ministry’s Health Department. Obesity has doubled in Thailand over the past two decades, according to a 2020 survey by Mahidol University. During that period, the percentage of obese children in the one-to-five age group has shot up from 5.8 to 11.4 percent. The percentage of obese kids aged five to 14 has risen even further, from 5.8 to 13.9 percent. A similar upward trend was found among 15 to 18-year-olds. “Based on Public Health Ministry data as of February this year, 13.2 percent of Thais aged between 15 and 18 are obese. This figure is high,” conceded Dr Sarawut Boonsuk, deputy director-general of the Health Department. Thailand has the third-highest rate of obese children among ASEAN countries, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). 23. BANGKOK (NNT) - As tourist demand continues to surge, airlines in Southeast Asia are gearing up for an extensive expansion of flights. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) predicts a full recovery of the airline industry in the fourth quarter of next year, with pre-Covid levels expected to return by 2025. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) aims to capitalize on the rising trend, targeting the "CIA" market, which includes China, India, and ASEAN countries. Their ambitious goal is to attract 25 million tourists this year and 35 million next year. To cater to this growing demand, Thai Lion Air is set to resume six daily flights from Bangkok to various Chinese cities, including Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Shanghai. Additionally, they will restart flights to Tokyo from Bangkok through Taipei. These moves are scheduled to commence in mid-August. EVA Airways is also joining in on the action, intending to promote Thailand as a top tourist destination through its extensive flight network covering Asia, North America, Europe, and Australia. The airline offers a significant number of direct flights to Bangkok, Taipei, China, Japan, and Seoul. In response to the preferences of Indian travelers for flying with Indian airlines, the TAT is closely monitoring the Indian market. They observed a decline in the number of business travelers in the region. However, a new Indian airline called Akasa Air is expected to begin operations by the end of the year. Meanwhile, Nok Air is preparing to resume flights to Singapore, and Air Asia is planning flights from Bangkok to Cebu, Philippines, to cater to Filipino travelers. MYAirline from Malaysia is also considering offering international flights to Bangkok’s airports, as well as services to other popular Thai destinations like Phuket, Chiang Mai, Krabi, and Samui. by Krajangwit Johjit Source: https://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG230803103740391 -- © Copyright NNT 2023-08-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
