  7. The recent election in Thailand was not merely a political contest; it was a testament of the collective voice of a nation yearning for progress. You, the voter, have voiced your preference for a brighter future, a future devoid of corruption, tyranny, and autocracy. Yet we witness an egregious violation of our collective will. The suspension of Pita Limjaroenrat, the chosen leader of the Move Forward Party, is a stark betrayal of your aspirations. The unjust maneuvers of the conservative parties and the military-appointed senate to delegitimize the election results do not merely attack a man or a party; they attack the very foundations of democratic ideals. They challenge your voice, your right, and your role in shaping the future of Thailand. by Cod Satrusayang Full story: https://www.thaienquirer.com/50259/now-is-the-time-to-stand-up-and-be-counted/ -- © Copyright Thai Enquirer 2023-07-20 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 9. Thailand held its general election on May 14th. On July 13th — almost two months since the election — the first round of voting for prime minister unfolded inconclusively. Then, on July 19th, the scheduled second round did not happen at all, with Parliament voting that Pita Limjaroenrat could not be submitted for consideration twice. It has been a remarkably drawn out process, only to reach the conclusion that most of us could have guessed a long time ago: Pita would not be allowed to become prime minister, and someone else will take the reins. Parliament voted to deny Pita a second shot at being re-nominated. It was only a formality that finalized what has long been certain. As the legal scholar Dr. Bowornsak Uwanno has noted, this stands on dubious legal grounds at best. But the decision has been made; now, the real action will take place. by Ken Mathis Lohatepanont Full story: https://www.thaienquirer.com/50256/quick-analysis-with-pita-gone-what-happens-next/ -- © Copyright Thai Enquirer 2023-07-20 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 11. The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms impacting 36 provinces across Thailand due to the monsoons. Citizens are urged to remain alert to the risks of flash floods. The department forecasts such weather patterns to continue for the next 24 hours. The north and the northeastern regions are experiencing a trough of the monsoon passing over them, moving towards the low-pressure trough along central Vietnam. Accompanied by the relatively vigorous southwestern monsoon prevailing across the Andaman Sea and Thailand, heavy downpours and thunderstorms are predicted across the country. The current weather conditions have prompted heavy rainfall in several locations. People residing in these areas are advised to be cautious of heavy rain and accumulated rainfall that could potentially lead to sudden floods and runoff, particularly in sloping areas near watercourses and lowlands. As for the mariners in the Andaman Sea and the upper part of the Gulf of Thailand, waves are expected to heighten to 2 to 3 metres, and in thunderstorm areas could exceed 3 metres. Mariners are advised to navigate with caution and to avoid sailing in storm-prone areas. Small boats in the Andaman Sea and the upper part of the Gulf of Thailand should also refrain from leaving shore during this period, reported KhaoSod. by Nattapong Westwood Picture courtesy of Raychel Sanner, Unsplash Full story: https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/weather/monsoon-causes-storm-surge-across-thailand-with-high-risk-of-flash-floods-36-provinces-on-alert -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-20 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 17. Jitters are escalating among the business community in light of the Constitutional Court’s directive on yesterday calling for the temporary removal of Pita Limjaroenrat, head of the Move Forward Party (MFP), from his role as a member of the House of Representatives. This development marks another detrimental blow for Pita, notwithstanding his party’s extraordinary election accomplishments, spurring fears of an imminent rise of extensive street demonstrations. Central Restaurants Group (CRG) President, Nath Vongpanich, asserted that while politics doesn’t primarily dictate the growth of their restaurant and beverage venture, an expedient installation of a fresh prime minister for efficient national administration is something he contends for. He remains steadfast in his belief that a stable political environment is vital in securing foreign investments. Praphon Potivorakhun, Deputy Managing Director at Mitsubishi Electric Kang Yong Watana, a Thai-Japanese corporate partnership that handles the distribution and marketing of Mitsubishi electrical goods, voiced concerns about the potential for street protests. He is apprehensive that these demonstrations could inadvertently hamper the nation’s stride towards economic recovery. “ Domestic economic slowdown and an unstable political situation will likely deter foreign investment in Thailand,” Praphon expressed. The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) Chairman, Kriengkrai Thiennukul, anticipates that the Pheu Thai Party will head the new government and kickstart or renew strategies meant to spur the economy. ” It is very difficult for Mr Pita to secure enough support from parliament to be the new prime minister, following his unsuccessful bid in the first parliamentary voting last week,” he stated. by Alex Morgan Photo: Supporters of the Move Forward Party gather at Democracy Monument during a protest in Bangkok, Thailand, Wednesday, July 19. 22. Pita Lim-jaroen-rat’s hopes of becoming Thailand’s next prime minister were dashed yesterday after a court suspended him as a lawmaker and rivals successfully scuttled his re-nomination in parliament. His suspension came as the Constitutional Court said it would proceed with a case that could see the leader disqualified from Parliament for owning shares in a now defunct media company. Pro-establishment campaigners sought to block Mr Pita after winning a shock election result in May. It remains to be seen who may be voted prime minister in next week’s parliamentary session due on 27th July., contenders include Pheu Thai candidate Settha Tawee-sin and Palang Pracha-rat leader Prawit Wong-suwan who was deputy prime minister under General Prayut. Last night supporters of the Move Forward Party demonstrated across the capital while many gathered at the Democracy Monument to stage a mock burial for junta appointed senators. Prosecutors have handed down the first of 75 indictments in the case of Sara-rat known as “Aem Cyanide” who is accused of poisoning 14 people to death, charges of assisting the accused were also filed against her former husband and lawyer.
