  1. You should know by now that we only get a follow up in 1% of these stories. It is all sorted out by the police behind closed doors in a manner they approve of. Occasionally we will get a follow up but your best bet is to try and find social media accounts related to the accused, his or his mates. In this case we have very little to go on. We don't even know if the surname Ezra is correct or is his middle name.
  2. @Selatan You are right. The CCP is God's gift to the Chinese people. Long live Chairman Xi. The Chinese people are eternally grateful to the CCP for releasing them from their oppressed misery. This has absolutely nothing to do with China or the Chinese Communist Party, the one-party state or authoritarianism, absolutely nothing. Please report that back to your party handler.
  3. Another authoritarian state, "benign dictatorship" and all that.
  4. Where is the mandatory "brakes failed" excuse?
  5. As ever, he is clearly working on behalf of an employer/franchise provider/supplier who is conveniently not mentioned in the story.
  6. Perhaps they have no other way of ensuring at the moment the applicant is not in Thailand at the point of application. Note the lead time of 10-15 working days. Applicants may not want to spend 10-15 working days hanging around in Savannakhet but may apply from Thailand and then nip out and back when the visa is approved. Having said that, it is not clear at what point in the process payment is made. Surely it must be at the point of application.
  7. From speaking to Malaysians, they have even less trust in their police than the Chinese.
  8. For those who have been here a long time, Pavena Hongsakul is truly immortal.
  9. BBC reporting IED attack in Umphang. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvgp5jxzl9eo
  10. Of course, you will see the same in Antalya, the new Benidorm, or whatever the latest English chav holiday destination is. You can take the chav out of Dagenham but you can't take the Dagenham out of the chav..... 😉
  11. Looking at the phone? No lights on the truck? Going too fast? Tired after a long shift? All of these? Let us all learn from Ms Usanee's mistakes.
  12. Bit more info " The breakthrough came today, December 13th, at 5:00 p.m. when Pol. Lt. Col. Thananon Athipansee, with the aid of a court-issued warrant, arrested Mr. Jordan Ezra at his residence in Moo 2 in Bangsaray. Ezra, who entered Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa, was charged with robbery at night using a vehicle to aid in the crime, causing physical or mental harm to others. However, during interrogation, Ezra denied all charges, claiming he suffers from bipolar disorder and has a “short memory,” stating he could not remember the events in question."
  13. The income from vice (outdated term, I know) is huge. There would be huge resistance to shifting that revenue from the black economy to receipted tax revenue. The vice lobby is very powerful. It is interesting to note the headline focuses on the decriminalisation of prostitution despite the fact that was only one of many recommendations The focus of the conference was gender equality, discrimination and the institutional barriers that women face.
  14. I suspect Jordan learnt this lesson from a very early age in the UK. Old habits die hard. But you are right, it won't help him here.
  15. You could well be right. However, we don't know what happened prior to this event. Was he aggressive? Did he try to run? Why is he even outside? It equally could well be that the suspect is complying as a result of the gun being drawn. But I think we can agree that the discipline and safeguards restricting the conduct of armed police that you find in the UK do not apply here. As an example, I witnessed a motorcycle trying to flee the wrong way on the Ramkhamhaeng flyover in Bangkok. The police officer's response was to fire a warning shot in the air.
  16. Or perhaps she was absolutely terrified.
  17. This guy will probably have outstanding warrants in the UK. Hence the reason to try and delay his return home.
  18. Was the motorcyclist British?
  19. Roll out the Border Police again to eliminate anybody who is deemed to be involved in drugs. No accountability, no justice. Just extrajudicial executions decided by those who currently hold power.
  20. As China has an authoritarian regime and questioning the police is taboo, this kind of scam works well. Quite incredible really. Then again, once the scammer has instilled a complete sense of panic in the victim, anything is possible.
  21. I used to swap between Sri Racha and Jomtien as I lived halfway in between. However, some services were not offered at Sri Racha and I was told to go to Jomtien. Also, if you are on extensions, I doubt they would like you swapping offices.
  22. I have a DTV and I understand that a 180-day extension is feasible and allowable. However, I have no plan to do this as experience tells me that it will be a much harder experience than a border run. I understand there are locations in Thailand that are inconvenient for border runs, Koh Phangan, perhaps, or rural Western Thailand. Also, some foreigners may have mobility issues that make long journeys difficult. So, for them, it is an attractive option. Just because you have a stick and there is a bear, there is no need to poke it.
