What are you thinking?  #1 rule now is stay at home - social distancing

If you need to "visit someone" do it on Line or Messenger

Big C, several other grocers can deliver food to you home

No reason to go driving your car to another province right now.

Stay home, stay clean, stay strong.

    Peace

You don’t know what I’m thinking do you? I never said. Driving by car two hours over to a rural area in the middle of the jungle in those mountains down there isn’t exactly the same as taking a stroll through a crowded mall. And by the way I am actually considering canceling that trip even but my question wasn’t about what I’m thinking. In fact those mountains in the Khaoi Yai rural areas is probably safer than it is up here. But if they start closing roads bad idea to be traveling anywhere at all. Not even 30 minutes away.

  2. Are we looking at potential road blocks into other Provinces? Has that ever happened before such as during the coups? Has Thailand ever closed and quarantined an entire province before? Or ever locked down individual provinces under martial law? Is that something that has ever occurred before? As far as actual road blocks into other provinces, because we already know they already have the power to set up all the “checkpoints” they want the checkpoints have been there everyday day for years they’re always there. But what about actual road blocks? What about the potential for shutting down provinces? What about the potential for martial law? Are we gonna start seeing tanks and troops in the streets?

I'm mostly asking about road blocks and locking down cities and provinces are we looking at that? For example on April 1st will we be able to simply drive into the next Province over? Is there’s a risk of getting stuck somewhere away from home if you’re visiting someone in another province? Right now I’m thinking probably yes but it’s really hard to say because it doesn’t even look like the government even knows everything yet. For example they finally decided to postpone the Olympics for a year. A WHOLE YEAR THE OLYMPICS that’s historic and hasn’t happened since WWII or was it WWI I’d have to look it up.

Has anyone who’s been living here more than 6 years know if they ever locked down individual cities and provinces during the COUP? We just missed the last 2014 COUP when we started living here in 2014, but we saw the aftermath of the 2009 COUP or 2010 I don’t recall at the moment.

    Thanks Jim

100 new cases a day is still very mild. And the four deaths is very low for 800 cases. All I am saying is no need to panic. We are quite safe here. Just take precautions.

I’ve been thinking that along but I’m concerned about society and governments breaking down because of mass panic. And things are shutting down that’s what scares me. The world stopping scares me not germs. Please God let them figure it out quick!

If official numbers are somewhat true you should see numbers of deaths growing rapidly by the end of the week. Nobody dies suddenly from covid. Do you wish every infected sudden death?

And I’m not only talking about known infections I’m also talking about conflicting information about government guidance in various cities. And some things are closed lots of places in the mall are shutdown.

No just some accurate news. Every single foreign news channel has a different tune and everything on line is conflicting information.

  6. So just to confirm “The country now has 827 cases and 4 fatalities since the outbreak began.” so only 4 known fatalities since this started? Italy alone is reporting 6000 fatalities. What’s going on?? I’m seriously concerned about the differences in the news I’m watching on TV and reading online. Sometimes it’s like the end of the world but then they’re still trying to figure out what to do about the Olympics.

I might be wrong but I was under the impression tourist visa holders didn't require the letter for the extension or is that only for VOA's and visa exempt?

Even I’m starting to get nervous about it now I’m really starting to wonder how much longer this gonna go on this cannot become a new normal. But I heard immigration was just giving it to anyone who needs it who’s stranded.

We just drove to Bangkok from Surin today. Easy drive with no real traffic jams. Got a bum gun in Oz so the dunny roll will last a long time. At least the 14 days solitary.

Good hopefully it stays that way and if panic travelers do flood the roads hopefully by next week it’ll be cleared up.

A couple of B2s flew over my house a while back when the N. Korea crisis was at it's peak.

I remember I was assigned to Tokyo and we were living there when North Korea was launching missiles over our heads in Tokyo. I was in Seoul Korea when the north sunk the sub, and during the artillery attack in November 2010. We also first started visiting Thailand then as well ten years ago when I was working in Japan.

2 hours isn't too bad. It probably becomes 3 hours if they start locking provinces with checkpoints.  My worry was mainly that I would have to use public transport, which I don't trust will be available if some serious locking down happens.  If you have your own transportation, that would be ideal.

Yes for this trip we have our own transportation. I definitely wouldn’t want to take the bus right now.

Well that’s only one. We usually buy that much and it lasts most of the month. But so far we’re not doing anything out of the ordinary. Except staying home more. We were in Surin a few weeks ago a couple hours away.

I thought about doing the same...going to islands/faraway province. To distance myself from the Bangkok epicenter.  But then I also thought, if I need to hack together some kind of immigration issue or worse, forced to make a quick exit, I'd rather not have to figure my way getting back here. Some countries are locking down individual provinces (Philippines) with checkpoints along highways, etc.. No interstate buses or travelers without proper reason. It's conceivable it could happen here...depending how out of hand the spread gets.

I think Khaoi Yai is ok but damn not if they start locking down Provinces. I’m gonna talk to my wife and sister in law about that. We’ll at least think about it but it’s only two hours away so I’d find a way back here one way or the other so I think we’ll be ok but we’ll definitely think about it.

Which is why I am doing it. I need to travel, compelled in some ways.

Oh, well definitely yeah, if you’re in transit definitely do it now while you still can. I’m just saying if you don’t have to travel it’s a bad idea. Although in April the hell with it, we’re probably going to Khiao Yai but I don’t know now that I think of it I might postpone it a day or two I gotta do laundry anyway before we go on April 1st so I might at least delay it if not cancel it but I don’t want to I love that area so much to do there all over those mountain areas down there.

But hell yeah if you gotta go I’d go now. What people like you don’t need is people like me who don’t need to travel clogging up the airports for people like you who really gotta get somewhere. I was thinking about people in your situation actually. Because a panic is going to make life difficult for people like you who might have to travel.

I just read the notice at state department.gov...says to return to the US, unless you are prepared to stay indefinitely, but it goes on to say that if you live overseas, to stay put.

Great 1943 doc on jungle survival..

Yeah bad idea to travel better off just staying put. In fact I better tell my wife’s friend in town from the states about that advisory thanks!
