  1. I can't believe that there has been around 250 serious replies to what first impressed me as probably one of the stupidest questions ever asked. What difference would it make as to how long one is staying here? Stinking hot weather is stinking hot weather, regardless if it's for 2 weeks or 20 years. I wear dress clothes to work as is the office policy but once I get home it's shorts. On the weekend it's shorts. Why is the name of god would I decide it's more appropriate to sweat mercilessly and wear jeans just because I live here? Am I missing the joke or some hidden meaning to 'wearing shorts'?

It all stems from a post on ,i think stickmanbangkok's website, years ago that mentioned that Thai girls like men who dress well and that shorts are not considered to be 'well dressed'- since that time the primary audience of that website (teachers and sexpats- nothing wrong with either group btw ) have been sweating around town religiously wearing jeans/trousers on hot humid days believing it will improve their chances in pulling a thai girl without realising that the younger generation of Thai girls couldn't care less if a bloke wear shorts

But surely we all know that a decent turn-out can overcome our shortcomings in terms of wealth, personality or wit. You'll not see me promenading down Soi Cowboy without my cravatte and spats

    SC

My apologies. I think I sat on your top hat that you left in a gentleman's club there recently. :D

  2. Pets hiding before the vet.. can be explained by the way you act. They know something is up

Pets waiting.. my pets always wait in front of the door when im not here. They make plenty of mistakes with taxi's comming.

Pets crossing miles is truly remarkable... but what about all those other pets far more that get lost and dont find their way home. Those few good examples are by far outnumbered by the others.

I tried many times with my cat, he always knew when we were going on hols or to the vet and taking HIM. there were many occasions were we did not take him and he was not bothered at all by any of our preparation.

When taking his girlfriend to the vet for example, they would stay both here, readily available. But he would hiding under the car where we could not get hold of him, when it was for him. So I could say the girl was not very perceptive / interested in what's going on in our brain, but that does not mean telepathy is not used by animals

When going on weekends, we would leave him behind, he knew we did not want to take him.

Pets don't necessarily use telepathy for everything, like the sense of smelling for example, you don't necessarily use its information constantly and like everything some are better at it / more interested in you than others, plus it depends of which relation you have with them, they might also just be happy to see anyone coming.

My pet had no way to know when I was coming, but she was exceptional other pet of her own race did not do it.

    Are you 12 years old?

gosh!............ how can a 12 year old girl thinks and writes that much?.:annoyed:

sense it..........BIG fool o' the day!!!!

see the world only half vision!?

3 is yours, init? grow up dude..

When I was 12 I may have believed in things like animals using telepathy, and I could probably write that much too. When I grew up and learned a little about reality I stopped believing such childish things. I think most people follow the same path. I don't know any adults that voice such nonsense, hence my comment.

No offense if English is not your first language, but your post is a little difficult to decipher, init.

  4. Dog shit ? Here in Chiang mai i almost never saw it. There is an army of cleaner every morning that clean everything, it rare to even see a cigarette butch. But when i was in Bangkok every street smelled like raw sewage with pile of old garbage on every corner. I guess it depend where u live.

I pretty much never see it in Bangkok either. Pretty much never see any of the problems he constantly moans about in Pattaya.

Always been curious how there can be so many stray dogs in Bangkok, but you almost never see any dog poop anywhere. I know dogs love to eat poop, maybe they scarf it up. But that just makes more, so where does it end up

That's strange, because I've spend plenty of time in Bangkok and it's surroundings and experienced all the same issues that p*ss me off so much. I have a friend living in Bangkok with all the same problems but to a greater degree. Do you come out of your condo much? Every part of Thailand I've visited is much the same on varying levels. I've only lived in Pattaya a month or so by the way. My other gripes were about elsewhere. Much as everyone likes to think Pattaya is the only part of Thailand that's a bit of a mess, it's not true. Pattaya is full mainly of Thais not ferrang, and it is they who make the mess.

  5. Is anyone doing the Satahip Navy run this Sunday? If so is anyone doing the half marathon? I did the 10km last year and would like to do the half this year. However I am not quite sure that I am up to the distance, so wonder if the course has many hills. I'll probably do it anyway but was looking for anyone with experience of it.

Move this to the sport forum if better there.

    Thanks.

  6. Like I said, I am very bored here waiting to leave.

I'm glad you liked my previous contribution. I considered starting the topic of 'Not my Thailand: why it is vastly overrated, and I will be leaving soon'. I could have included pictures of dog turds, broken pavements, minging bar girls and elderly ferang, road accidents, dogs stuck together by their <deleted> :D , litter, dirty sois etc etc. You'd have probably liked that one, and it might have been a fitting last topic for me.

I will probably check in once I've left, and would like to think that I will be honest in my appraisal of life away from Thailand. We shall see.

Rich since you are bored grab the broom and do a sweep about and help your moo ban a bit by getting rid of the dog shit. The exercise will be good and the kids will appreciate it. If I lived there I would appreciate it.

Good Luck on your move and your first winter back in jolley old England.

It's a nice sentiment, but I've gone down the road of trying to clean areas of Thailand several years ago. People said I was wasting my time and they were right. Never again.

I'm not even sure what a Moo Ban is. Is it a Thai village, with a head man and village drunk etc?

  7. with your avatar there's only one place for you to be moaning and complaining.. yup the UK

    :)

Good luck - but dont forget about the F^&*, I mean darned traffic wardensmad.gif

I don't beee-lieve it! I double posted. dam_n this computer that was made in Thailand :D

I've never had a ticket from a traffic warden in the Uk, or a speeding ticket. In Thailand I've only been stopped twice and only one of those times did I have to pay a 200 baht fine. Not bad for both countries.

Well that's good. Another post said that they have a dog catcher in their area. It's a shame they couldn't do that nation wide. I've never seen sidewalk cleaners but I guess they must exist. When they clean the sidewalks they probably get the turds too in some areas.

  11. I think it is one dog from two doors down that is supplying the turds in our Soi

You think ONE dog is guilty and are complaining? That dog must eat 40+ meals a day to create the quantity you are complaining about. I am actually happy for you that you have made the decision to leave Thailand, because if dog poo is worth getting all worked up over, then traffic must be waaaay over the top for you!

(note -- the above is actually meant sincerely ... some people just aren't cut out for living in Thailand, and life is way way way too short to be some place that makes you unhappy!

I think the dog may be crapping in the area directly outside my house, but probably not responsible for the crap on the other roads within a 10km radius that I run. I think he may be getting outside help with that. Although he could be the mastermind behind it.

Traffic is indeed way over the top for me. It drives me mad and I look forward to the day, very soon, when I no longer have to deal with it. I should have left a while ago, but better late than never. Only six weeks to go. :D

I thought your planned move was over a year ago. I know that sometimes outside factors can slow things down, but there is no way I would live somewhere I hated (found intolerable) for so long.

I was over a year ago I think. We had to sell our house, which is no easy process in Thailand. Sold it in the end of course, for a knock down price. We are only here now because we had to give notice to the tenant of our house in the Uk, otherwise we would be gone. Time is going very slowly here waiting to leave.

  13. Quote: 'I know who owns a couple of the guilty dogs' Unquote

So, no, let me get this straight, ha ha, the DOGS are 'guilty', as opposed to the owner who hasn't toilet trained them. Scooped up their crap? - Contrary to general opinion here on this forum, did witness an elderly Thai man doing just that.

    What about elephants? Birds?

You describe yourself as a 'runner'? You're in the tiniest minority here. Go 'ome.

    <deleted>!!

I realize it's not the dogs fault, jackass. You're saying I should go home because I don't like dog sh*t everywhere, or because I'm a runner? You need to up your medication I'd say. I've never had a problem with elephant dung, but have occasionally been hit by bird crap, but not to the extent that it slowed my running any.

  14. I think it is one dog from two doors down that is supplying the turds in our Soi. On an evening the Thais sit outside in a group, with dog eggs all about. The owner of the dog is one of them. I don't know how she has the face to sit there, especially with many children playing in the soi. Nothing gets said of course.

As Robb said, they can't sort their garbage so no chance really.

Running here is not a pleasant experience. Every road is covered in dog shat and various forms of garbage. I find myself having to hold my breath a lot, which makes my poor running form even more difficult :D . Often a whole new pile of garbage will appear over night and slowly get dispersed along the road. It's an utter disgrace.

  15. Being a runner I get to experience the state of the roads and pavements of Thailand quite a lot. As well as the hanging cables, holes, uneven ground and general mess that is Thailand I have to be constantly alert to dodge dog sh*t. It is everywhere. The sides of every road are covered in the stuff. The estate I stay on is now also peppered with it. When I walk the kids to the pool each day it is like a chicane of crap. I think I never noticed it that much before because my previous estate had few dogs on it. It has to be a health hazard having so much crap everywhere. I know who owns a couple of the guilty dogs, but this being Thailand it is not the done thing to complain, even when a dog curly one out outside your house. The government should really do something, but I guess until they can make money from dog dump they probably won't.

  16. I always thought Thai marketing strategy worked on the 'if it does not sell, increase the price' model. Those egg tarts are very nice anyway.

  17. I normally use a Garmin wrist monitor for my running, with built in GPS. Today it died on me, so I started wondering if I could some how use my Samsung Galaxy Europa to do the same thing with an Android app. In the past I've tried the GPS program that came with it but it's never connected. I downloaded an app tonight and went outside to see if it worked and connected. It didn't. What do I need to get this to work? Does the phone need to be connected the net for it to work. When I used it in the Uk I don't think it was.

    Thanks

  18. I wonder if that's why the search for particular amulets? I've always wondered what they were for. Maybe they think the better and older the amulet the more crazy and irresponsible they will be able to behave on the roads without danger of accidents.

  19. I've had a quote of $1875 US. This was more than it cost me to bring similar from Uk to here, but everything is more here. I am repacking and reducing weight a little but will probably go with this. I am also waiting quotes from a couple of other companies.

  20. I've tried two photography shops and both have not had a battery for my 300D camera. I assumed it would be a common battery that covered many Canon cameras. Should it be easy to find or is it an old type of battery that is no longer used? Or do I need to try different shops? The ones I tried were in Tesco and Carfoure.

Also, how much is a battery likely to be? I see them for around 10 pounds in the Uk.

    Thanks.
