  1. I've been changing quite a lot of 50 pound notes over the last month and had no problem other than with notes with slight rips. I never changed any of them in Bangkok, but I would have thought there would be even less of a chance of rejection there.

  2. Are you not both saying the same thing more or less. The video seems to match the diagram, one from each of you. Both very informative anyway. I've never taken any notice of how a toilet works but now I know. Thanks a lot. The toilet has now, for what ever reason, stopped smelling even though there has been a lot of rain.

  3. Some people seem to see the problems here as being the same as those in their home lands. I don't see how. There are noise problems everywhere for sure, but in most of our home countries we can do something about it to some extent. Plus I think that people in our home countries generally have more consideration for those around them, unlike many Thais.

  4. Bit of clarity here please 'Richb', (not claret) it would seem too much of that may have been qwaft already. You pin you statement to a small hand bag fight, about 'trolling' (of which you have a hand in) and start going on about; 'utter nonsense impinging on lives' I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be rude….I genuinely don't understand what you're driving at.

I don't think the OP is a troll post, I think he's looking for advice. Although I'm not exactly clear what a troll post is exactly. I don't think I'm guilty of trolling either, if I understand it.

I was driving at the absurd nature of someone taking serious advice from men simply because they adorn themselves in orange robes. What's difficult to understand. It seems to me to be complete nonsense, and in this instance the OP is allowing it to effect/impinge upon his life, and affect his decisions. Fairly clear I think, claret or no claret.

  5. Did you know that voting affects them in all kinds of ways. My wife never voted for the 5 years she was overseas. It seems this is recorded and counts against you as a good citizen. The bank brought it up once when she went for a loan. Brilliant!

The main impact is that you are ineligible to run for public office if you did not vote in the previous election. Dumb rule, admittedly, but doesn't impact too many people. Once you start voting again, subsequent elections are open to you again.

When she went for a loan they said she didn't have a good credit rating. This was largely because she didn't work so had no regular deposits in the back. However they also pointed out that she hadn't voted many times. When she told them she'd been living overseas they asked why she had not gone to vote at the embassy. They didn't get that not everyone lives in London. So it is recorded somewhere.

  6. I am hoping to sell my car shortly, but I have been told that I will have to return to the city in which it was first registered to do all the paperwork with the person that buys it. I live in Pattaya but my wife says the car was registered in Bangkok. When we bought it from the garage they told us this and we had to wait a week or so whilst one of their employees sorted it in Bangkok. However the guy that wants the car seems to think it is not necessary.

    Any ideas?

  7. This is a joke, right?

+1  apparently not by some of the replies, unbelievable.

Guys, do you both think you are the only ones to see the likely hood of this topic being BS, you know the fact is; some 'troll' topics raise interesting aspects to living in Thailand. There are many a troll topic that will rate high in the replies…Whyis that? Is it because other TV'ers just don't have your cutting edge in-sight, or a finger on the pulse of life? No, it's because whether the topic is 'troll' or not, sometime, questions are raised that beg answers.

Sometimes, people overlook the blatant 'troll' post, to answer a genuine issue in Thailand, and anyway, how often do the replies stay on topic, more than not, the discussion find its own level though the replies.

But thanks for the head-up guys, please keep us posted.

Regardless of if it is real or not I simply don't know how people put up with having such utter nonsense impinge upon their lives. If a vicar in their own country told them the same, how much value would they give his opinion?

  8. Staring them down: well, it works when you are convinced of your superiority. If you are feeble-minded, the dogs will probably sense it and attack.

Another piece of advice if you have no stones: just pretend to pick some up. That has always worked with me.

Also learn the Thai (or local) expression of 'out' or 'down', whatever locals use to tell a dog to back off and shout it at them.

Dogs don't speak Thai, they like all animals use telepathy, which means which ever language you use if the dog is tuned to you, he will get it.

    :ermm::blink: Come again.

  9. Did you know that voting affects them in all kinds of ways. My wife never voted for the 5 years she was overseas. It seems this is recorded and counts against you as a good citizen. The bank brought it up once when she went for a loan. Brilliant!

  10. I had my two year old to the dentist today. Although no work was done the advice was good and I was pleased with the service. Plus it was only 525 baht. I am now wondering if I should get anything done before returning the the Uk, which I understand has a shortage of places with which to register. I'm thinking that even a clean would be worth having.

  11. This is an extreme example of the problem, but on a smaller scale this is experienced by people trying to settle in Thailand all the time. I know many folk with similar issues, who have bought a nice house only to have some eyesore or cacophony of noise appear next door after a couple of years. Normally there is little they can do about it. It's one of the ever present uncertainties of living here. If you can't handle it I advise leaving. In civilized countries are are at least some avenues of justice, but generally not here.

  12. Dogs only attack when they are afraid? What about when defending territory? The 20 or so that attacked my during this incidence were not afraid. They came from some distance away to have a go. It was like being on the plains of the Serengeti with a pack of hyena. :D

  13. I like to think the whole family thing is one of the positives of Thailand, but in reality I think it is a negative in many cases. There seem to be hangers on in every family who don't do much but expect to be supported. The western system is far superior. Whilst my parents are far from well off I have never had to give them anything or support them in any way. I wish the same could be said for the Thai side. Of course Thailand is not alone in this. There are many country's with the same system.

  14. I'm sure this has been covered many times, but my search has not brought anything up.

We are returnring to the Uk soon. My wife would like to take back a couple of bum guns (not sure of correct name). They are great to use with out 2 year olds. I am fine with this but wonder how well they work there. Is there enough pressure for them to work? I also wonder if the splashes will lead to floor board problems. I guess they are easy enough to install there. I would be interested in experiences using them in the Uk.

    Thanks.
