Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital is also a possibility, ie., even if for a second opinion. Check their web site. Both Bumrungrad and Samitivej accept certain foreign medical insurances that substantially cut your out of pocket costs. For some foreign policies, 100% coverage for in-patient care.

Careful with the wording on 'in' and 'out' patient. I've just had all in, 5 months of diagnosis, tests, treatments and follow ups for prostrate cancer. All but 1 night when I had a Biopsy was as an outpatient.

If at all concerned about cost (as it sounds like you are) I would recommend instead Siriraj hospital's private wing, will be around 25% less than Bumrungrad for same or better quality. I suggest this doctor there:

    Prof. Sittiporn Srinuluad

Have to agree with  this and just to add, my PSA was 24 and Gleeson 9 when diagnosed. I am being treated by both the Urologist and the Radiotherapist specialists at Siriraj and the latter would not suggest the brachytherapy thus it was 28 shots on the Linac (1.5T 7MV) , which is the only one of its kind in South East Asia. I will never know whether the other options would have been more successful or create less after effects. My experience led to complications with my bowel and bladder that have since ( 2 months after completing treatment) have resolved to nearly 'normal' although the 3-4 bathroom visits a night are still required. Cost wise , all in was £10k and the level of care, equipment and surroundings although a public hospital felt like a private hospital. More importantly my PSA last measured at 0.6 although I haven't had any further scans to advise on the cancer cells, however the radiologist advised the 'shots' were accurate and were having the correct impact. I'm as strong now as I was before treatment, eating well and have put on 3 kilos, possibly due to the hormone treatments; which are fun with hot flashes in this heat. There's more if you want, but that's it in a nut shell, good luck with whatever course you choose.

  3. Here's a thought on the subject seeing as we are picking dates to suit the rhetoric on the effect of 1 event.

In December 1971 the £ was trading at $2.43. We joined the EU in January 1972 and from then until the UK left the organisation the £ sterling really did plummet , halved in value to £1.27.

What does that say regarding  the membership of the EU?  Apply the same logic please.

Lol! The BP crashed after the referendum, not after the official leave date!

So that would be an 11% 'crash' and a 13% gain since Brexit. Think positively. I do , that's how I run an international export/import business. I work around problems rather than finding them.

By the way 37 baht to the £ was great for business and great for my customers in the UK.

Exactly what suffering has "brexit"  caused to british expats living here ?  Speaking for my self absolutely none whatsoever

A 20% reduction in disposable income was a pretty significant thing for me to suffer, personally.

Maybe it didn't impact your life, though. Maybe you're one of the wealthy who can afford Brexit.

Brexit occurred February 1st 2020 when the exchange rate for the Thai baht was 40.7 (apprx). Today it's 46.02 (apprx). That's a 13% increase in the exchange rate. Are some people getting a really poor exchange rate that leaves them 20% worse off?

What is true is the rate of inflation in Thailand which I accept has devalued our purchasing power here. I'm struggling to see what effect Brexit had in Thailand.

Thailand is the greatest place of all until you have a problem.

Then you are on your own.

Whilst I understand that that can certainly be the case, I would say its a bit of a generalisation.  I know there are many reasons why people don't and can't create a personal strategy in the form of friends etc. but I would suggest it makes good sense to do so.

I was recently diagnosed with cancer and the help from family (Thai)  and certainly the numerous hospital staff was tremendous. I certainly wasn't on my own, and that wasn't by luck. Make a plan for the inevitable.

All part and parcel of the disease, which I have had in different degrees since a teenage.

Thankfully for me, I only have it on my scalp now, hence no hair, but, in my experiments I found a cheap cream that really works regarding the itching and soreness. Loads of folk sell it on Lazada, but if you keep searching, you can find it for about 20 bht a tube, well worth a try. I buy 5 tubes at a time, you will not find it in the shops...Link below..

Thanks , I'll try it on my radiation burns from my cancer treatment. The itching has got progressively worse since I finished the course of radiotherapy. The heat here doesn't help,

If you are bitten the hospital needs to know what type of snake it was, before any treatment is given.

I'm English, I've seen one snake in 70 years in the UK so I'm not qualified to tell a snake from a worm. If I'm bitten by one here in LoS I'll be a fat use at hospital identifying the type.  Do you think telling nursie it was 'a long one' will be of any help?

  9. I understand the complaints and criticism, however in my view a 6 month delay on a project this size and complexity is surely reasonable. I drive the road frequently and there are delays on occasions; I'm retired here so a precious extra 30 minutes doesn't phase me.

Maybe it's because I come rom the UK. Only 20% of income paid by the motorist in taxes  is used for road infrastructure. The roads are ill maintained and the largest project in the last few years was to turn the emergency breakdown lane of the motorways into a 'part time' extra lane. This grand ides resulted in many deaths . At least Thailand is planning ahead with this scheme whereas the motorist in the Uk is constantly persecuted with surveillance at every road junction, excessive parking fees and extra taxes to enter certain areas of a city in the name of 'combatting climate change'. Oh I almost forgot, we get to benefit from this despite 70 baht/litre.

  10. I was diagnosed with cancer several months ago and started on a journey of fact finding and treatment. I stumbled across a TikTok post claiming that Fenbendazole, a dog worming drug was being promoted as a cure for cancer.

I read multiple reports and followed up on claims and was skeptical of the posts by people claiming they had cancer and that the drug was ‘curing’ them. Further research led me to reports of MD’s claiming there was some evidence of it working and others that it was unproven.

When I read a medical journal that had evidence that the drug could cause organ failure I posted this on the TikTok post and received quite strongly written animosity.

I ultimately decided to place my health in the hands of the medical profession here in LoS and my view at 70 years old is that if it’s not the Big C that gets me something else will. For starters I stay away from riding motorbikes here, that will surely extend my life by at least another 10 years.

A footnote to add is that part of my treatment is estrogen female hormone injections. Hot flashes in this country are no joke, however being full of all this goo I am now always correct when having a discussion with my other half.

Can anyone give me a ballpark figure for the cost of this treatment?

    Thanks

I was diagnosed 5 months ago and have just finished all the pre-treatment tests and 28 doses of Radiotherapy at Siriraj in Bangkok. They have the most modern Linac in the whole of Asia. Too much detail to write here but I'm up to around £10k for everything. PM me if you want a complete breakdown and my experience.

Where though. Where is not in the middle of nowhere, has a thai feel but has access to some western comforts, not polluted so you have to worry about breathing for 6 months out of the year, not horribly busy, nice beaches or other natural beauty nearby. Options seem limited.

Cha Am. 2-3 hours from Bangkok....thus, hospitals (university teaching), airport(s), oodles of shopping and entertainment. Meanwhile, beautiful beaches, nightlife on a small scale resulting in a quiet life if you want it, a good Thai flavour with plenty of western luxuries available (Hua Hin), a mix of nationalities that on the whole are responsible and make for good friends.  Cost of living there is lower than where most other traditional 'falangs' congregate and last but not least , on the edge of Chaeng Krachan national park.

I've seen case where the prosecutor office (must be where they have the equivalent of legal aid) help Thai family get estate executor appointed without need for lawyer, they just need a few fee like for the advertisement on court paper of the court date, and on the date they just read out the case in court, no body turns up to contest and it's done. the wait was long like 6-8months though

This is correct. If you approach a legal company they will obviously guide you towards believing they are the only acceptable avenue towards completing the necessary documentation.

However this is from a respected law firm here in LoS:

    and

    https://www.siam-legal.com/legal_services/probate-and-estate-administration.php

Aside from the heirs, any person the decedent designated in his/her will to be an estate administrator is able to petition the court.
