Digital Wallet and taxing income from abroad?
For the source of the money, which is estimated to total about 560 billion baht, Mr Julapun assured that there will be financial sources to fund the project.
Even if every expat in Thailand paid 1,000 dollars a year in taxes...It would only be a drop in the bucket as far as paying off 560 billion baht.....I am talking like 150-200 years....
Do the math and see for yourself....

Better buy a non-free SIM card for 10 Baht, then purchase a good on-top package.
NOTHING IS FREE IN THAILAND.....If its free there is a catch.....Sounds like this free card might end up being quite expensive..

Maybe they don't want to have any application which doesn't get paid at the end of the process. I suspect many applications were confirmed just in time for the deadline but will never get paid (because people are undecided due to the deadline and the new tax system has changed many things for some people). 50k is still a ridiculous fee.
I don't see anyone sane buying that new Thai Elite visa before at least next year as those tax problems haven't been explained in detail.
They are really doing their best to make the product as unattractive as possible.
Hey guys send me 25,000 and I will tell you NO..
A 50% discount for you.....lol

Can anyone say Hopewell err I mean DTA........lol

Nope. There is no mention of exemptions under DTAs in the order. It just tells RD officers to tax the b'Jezus out of each and every foreign remittance. Here is a translation of the order
Revenue Department Order
No. P.161/2023
Subject: Payment of income tax according to Section 41, paragraph two of the Revenue Code.
It is intended for revenue officials to consider this as a practical guideline for inspecting and giving advice to those residing in Thailand who have assessable income according to Section 40 of the Revenue Code in the past tax year Due to work duties or business conducted abroad or because of assets located abroad according to Section 41, paragraph two of the Revenue Code. The Revenue Department has ordered the following:
Clause 1: Persons who are residing in Thailand according to Section 41, paragraph three, of the Revenue Code who have assessable income due to work duties or activities conducted abroad or because the property is in foreign countries according to Section 41, paragraph two of the Revenue Code In the said tax year and brought the assessable income into Thailand in any tax year. That person has a duty to include that assessable income in the calculation to pay income tax according to Section 48 of the Revenue Code In the tax year in which the assessable income was brought into Thailand
Clause 2: All rules, regulations, orders, letters of response to consultations or any practice that is contrary to or inconsistent with this order shall be cancelled.
Clause 3: This order shall come into force for assessable income imported into Thailand from the date 1 January 2024 onwards
Ordered on 15 September 2023
Lawan Saengsanit
(Mr. Lawan Saengsanit)
Director General of the Revenue Department
So your saying it appears that Thailand does not plan to honor tax treaties with other countries?.........

I keep being told to wear my tin hat. I ignore them. It has nothing to do with climate change, it is ALL about control, control, control. The W.E.F., W.H.O. UN, and others want cashless societies so they can implement 15 minute cities, and control what you do, where you do it, what you spend, and where you spend it. Break one of their rules, they freeze your cards. You only have to look at the lorry driver strike in Canada early January, when the Government froze all their bank accounts.....all card only. Banks will be able to charge whatever they want for transactions, and you will have no choice but to pay. No more cash work, not even a tenner from Grandad at birthday time. The younger generation with all their pay by phone apps just cannot see it. Covidiocy was an experiment on control, and to an extent it worked. Now, I sit back and wait for all the negative posts about conspiracies. I fear for my children, what dystopian society they will grow up in, at least there is one benefit to getting old, i will not have to comply.
This is a good post......Only sheep will try and deny unpleasent things are in the works...

You confuse visa and tax residency. Anyone who remains in almost any country for more than 180 days, is tax resident. Visa's are a totally separate issue. But I do agree we are not Residents, we are resident perhaps but because of the long stay visa issue, we are not Residents, not that that changes the tax position..
To say some one only qualifies as a resident to pay a tax.... And to say they dont qualify for any other rights or benefits of being a resident or any of the benefits of paying income tax (like the option buy into Thai health care) is a Joke.....A very bad Joke....
No one can deny this......

49 minutes ago, retiree said:Not to make this interminable topic even interminabler (and I have no need to exercise this option myself), but it occurs to me that being non-tax-resident in Thailand in any one tax year provides a double pass:
- any income brought into Thailand in that year is not taxed because you were not a tax resident,
- any overseas income earned that year is not assessable (and thus not taxable) because you were not a tax resident, no matter what year it is brought in.
Income from employment or business carried on in Thailand, no matter what your status or where it is paid, is always assessable, of course, per Section 41 (1) of the Revenue Code https://www.rd.go.th/english/37749.html .
Please remember that I am not now, and have never wanted to be, an accountant or lawyer.
It sound like they want to slap a tax-resident label on farangs just for the privilege of being taxed......With no other benifits for farang what so ever...
Does a farang who is in Thailand for 179 days use a whole lot less resources than a farang that is here for 300 -365 days? Nope not really....
Especially considering almost nothing is free for a farang in Thailand
179-365 days farangs pay up same same for every thing in Thailand..

Social Security eligibility here requires regular separate payment into the SSc fund., it's not income tax linked.
Ok fair enough
But a farang who has a work visa and is working in Thailand and paying taxes on his income at least has the option to pay into the Thai health and SSc fund which comes as a benifit of paying taxes on their income in Thailand..
So what benifits would a farang on a retirement visa get if he also paid taxes on his income?

Just put them on commercial flights with the tourists which according to another article seem to have no problem getting flights.
They could force or coerce the airline to carry them if they need to after all they make the rules up as they go here
No No.....This would cost money.......And kill the daily news stories about how Thais are trapped and in danger there......

Maybe I missed it but what did they say were the new benifits and rights a farang would get for paying taxes on income not earned in Thailand?
Example....In America when you pay taxes you are also paying into social security that pays you money when you turn 62 years old....

A further thought, there is quite a lot of Thai's working in the Middle East, an area of the world that is tax free. If they tax them in Thailand I think they may well decide to come home. No Thai is going to go to work in say Saudi and then get taxed on their earnings back home. The reason they go abroad is for the tax free and higher income status.
How about the countless workers in Thailand from Burma......
Whats the tax rape their goverment announced...
Some thing like 25% of income must be sent back at 50% discounted exchange rate and a 10% tax on top of that...
And what if Thailand wants a 15-35% tax on top of their wages too......After expenses the Burmese will have absolutly no money and be in debt just for working....
If it was not so sad it would be funny....
