There are 80,000 people on retirement visas in Thailand... Let's say every one paid 1,000 dollars in Taxes... That would be 80,000,000 million dollars or about 2,700,000,000 billion baht... The 10,000 baht give away will cost Thailand 560,000,000,000 billion baht.... It would take the expat's tax money 207 years to pay off the 10,000 baht giveaway......This would take many generations to pay off with expat money... So I think its VERY VERY clear if they say they need to tax the farangs to help pay for the 10,000 baht giveaway this is total nonsense....Farang taxes will hardly help at all....

The truth of the matter is the bleeding of foreign investment into Thailand by individuals and very possibly by companies is already well underway now. Because of the opaque and murky nature of this tax proposal that will be dragging out for who knows how long.... Thailand already had a bad repution for rule changing, flip flopping and not sticking to agreements (Hopewell) ...... This tax disaster will be the staw that broke the camels back for many....... All this will take many a year to repair to the level where farang can feel confident to buy cars and condos again..

Speaking of value at Hooters lets see here 1 Hamburger 500 baht 1 Beer 200 baht Tax and service charge almost 20% 140 baht total 840 baht Plus girl tip 20-40-60? baht So your basic meal cost around 900 baht order 2 beers and your up to 1,100 baht It would be cheaper to eat at the Hilton....lol

By the time the Thais get around to saying any thing about this tax thing months in the future if ever this thread should be hundredes of pages long.... The only thing that for sure is happening here is peoples and investors confidence in Thailand is being destroyed more and more the longer this wild speculation drags out...

Dont ask me I am as confused as everone else here.... I just think its funny after decades of reminding farang they have no rights or benifits because they are on a NON IMMIGRANT VISA,......Now after 180 days they might all the sudden be a resident .....A resident that is with no rights or benifits except for the right to pay taxes.....lol

A post from this thread.....Not me.... A foreigner named NokKavow comes here and spends $5,000 on his Mastercard. Assuming Mastercard or the local business discloses these records to the Thai government. How do they know this foreigner is you? We can assume that Mastercard will not disclose this info - the privacy of their customers is, in fact, more important to them than the <deleted>ty little nation of Thailand. Their transaction volume is many many times the size of the entire Thai economy. If the US or EU comes knocking sure they need to play ball. But Thailand is never going to kick out the global card processors - their economy would grind to a halt overnight if every Visa or Mastercard stopped working, and those companies would barely notice. So the Department of Revenue has to obtain a record of every foreign credit card transaction from every business in Thailand, and then somehow determine with the limited information associated with those transactions whether those people are Thai tax residents. Yeah right. This conversation has gone off the deep end, it's so far from reality at this point

And what have I learned after 71 pages?......Not much lol........... Except that a person international income, pension and tax situation is not the same as anyone elses money situation......Very Complicated, throw in tax treaties and it gets more complex for people here to figure out... Its all such a complex mess the Thais will zero chance of making this work..

The amout of money they will lose from this tax is vast...So many billions that I cant even make a good guess how many...No cars being bought or Condos or houses....And keeping as much money out of Thailand as possible.....The money lost is huge.... On top of this they are forcing gas and electric and some food prices lower....Hey Bozos some one some where is going to be paying for this...Plus the 10,000 baht free money give away.....Someones paying for that too... The baht is already saying what it thinks about this money spending orgy..
