British Tourist Attacks Thai Officer, Gets Restrained
Did this happen in Pattaya, or are you assuming that and using it as an excuse to tell us how you feel about it? Pattaya attracts all kinds of people, as does every other place.

Is Southeast Asia Really That Safe?
You obviously do care, as you went to lengths to explain it to me twice, and apologise for the obscene response from a twisted member who was trying to be funny. Although it is possible, if taken in the literal sense, to mean that a gf had contracted some people to carry out the murder of her brother on the streets of Bangkok, and cover it up as a random robbery/murder... and then tell me all about it. That is so utterly inconceivable that no person would seriously consider this as the actual meaning. As I said, context is important, and in this case, would have solved the ambiguity and saved you the trouble of offering a lesson in sentence structure.

Is Southeast Asia Really That Safe?
Thanks for the English lesson, but informal writing here is often ambiguous; however, the idea that a lady I was dating had commissioned her brother to be murdered by armed robbers on the streets of Bangkok would not be considered remotely possible by anyone. Even if she did, she'd hardly be admitting it to anyone, and then even if she did murder her own brother and told me, I wouldn't be writing about it on a public forum. Context can help solve the mysteries of ambiguous sentences. English is my first language, but I don't often proofread my comments on this informal forum. Your analysis of my grammar was correct, and I should have worded it differently. You might want to consider Muphry's Law, a deliberate misspelling of Murphy's Law. I'll let you look it up.

Is Southeast Asia Really That Safe?
You're judging the quality of a lady by the unfortunate tragedy of having a brother murdered randomly on the streets of Bangkok. The lady you're referring to is a very good woman.

Is Southeast Asia Really That Safe?
I was dating a lady who had a brother murdered in the streets of Bangkok. Shot by armed robbers. This happened a long time ago. Sometimes it's a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, no matter how smart you are.

Big C Extra food court looks completely different
LOL. It's not worth the effort to park and walk up the stairs of that 7-Eleven, assuming you mean the one shaped like a ship on Pattaya Tai. I had no idea it was the world's biggest, and the inside is not the biggest I've seen, if you don't count the seating upstairs. 7-Eleven's are getting bigger by the year, so there's some stiff competition.

Not only that, he's looking for noodles in a food court, some of the cheapest food around.

Rubbish Cleanup Underway on Pattaya's Jomtien Beach
That's why I suggested it was bad timing, walking there on a bad day, but it was absolutely disgusting on that day, and I didn't go back again, as Pattaya Beach was a lot cleaner.

Tourist Claims Rude Treatment in Thailand, Causes Stir
I think the Songthaew driver was hilarious. The guys in the back were quite amused too, and probably glad to see the back of her. Note that only the girl used foul language.

Tourist Claims Rude Treatment in Thailand, Causes Stir
When they have over a million subscribers, a lot of people do take notice of what they say, and over this story, a lot of people do care. In this case, there might even be a potential defamation case if she visits again.

Rubbish Cleanup Underway on Pattaya's Jomtien Beach
Really? It must have been a bad day, but the only time I walked (I was barefoot) on Jomtien Beach was early June last year, and it was absolutely disgusting, full of trash in the water and washed up.

Thailand 3rd Globally in Taxi Scam Complaints, Survey Reveals
The major problem I see in Bangkok is taxis refusing to accept metered fares in busy tourist areas. They got their stats from 450 Reddit posts and associated comments? I wouldn't take too much notice of the results of that survey. Just for starters, the Philippines is way ahead of Thailand in taxi scams, but probably because of much higher tourist numbers in Thailand, they are not getting as many posts about it on Reddit.

Tourist Claims Rude Treatment in Thailand, Causes Stir
Rudeness is subjective. Some nationalities might consider some Thai behaviour rude based on the standard of behaviour in their own country, but that doesn't mean the Thai people mean to be disrespectful; it's just their own way. Ignoring someone is the way they get out of uncomfortable situations without any confrontation.

Tourist Claims Rude Treatment in Thailand, Causes Stir
Ignorant girls! If someone doesn't understand you, get your own translator out. These days it's easy, unlike years ago when smartphones didn't exist. One of the major reasons why I live in Thailand and have a Thai gf is to get away from these types of loud, entitled bitches. Generally, Thai people are shy to attempt to speak English if they cannot speak it, and would prefer to ignore rather than make a fool of themselves. It is very difficult for Thai people to learn how to pronounce English, as it is the other way around.

Tiger Deaths Probe After 72 Die in Chiang Mai
(You could learn some etiquette on how to reply on a forum. You could try something like "I disagree") It makes a big difference, seeing these animals up close vs watching them on YouTube. You can't gain full appreciation for any creature by watching them on a small screen or seeing them in photos. If people gain an appreciation for these animals, they're more likely to support projects to save them in the wild. Most people in the world haven't seen live tigers, and unless they can see them in a park or zoo, they never will.

Tourist Dies While Snorkelling off Bang Saray
I hope you don't have a family and give them this lousy advice. Is that not what I recommended? Take medication and don't swim unattended? With those precautions, he should be able to enjoy as much snorkelling as he likes, but we are all defined by our limitations. There's no need to take risks if you don't have to. I don't suppose you've ever scuba dived, because one of the primary rules is never to dive alone. This guy should not have snorkelled alone. How much risk a person should take is not always up to the person, but their family and responsibilities. Most people don't live in a vacuum and have other people who care if they live or die.

Tiger Deaths Probe After 72 Die in Chiang Mai
Tigers need to be shown to the public, somehow, and as humanely as possible. People need to see these magnificent animals close up so that they may help to save them in the wild. They are still on the brink of extinction in the wild, so public awareness is very important.

Tourist Dies While Snorkelling off Bang Saray
You didn't read the article. It has nothing to do with gulping water: He had a pre-existing medical condition, epilepsy, and it is believed he may have suffered a sudden seizure, causing him to lose consciousness and fall face down into the water Don't swim or snorkel if you have epilepsy, or be sure to take your medication and don't swim unsupervised.

Mobile Banking Apps Blocked on Outdated Devices Starting Feb 14
Talk about being totally out of touch with reality. You need to move out of the dark ages and into the light. You're suggesting that everyone should buy a PC or laptop, set it up at home with an Internet connection, and use it to do their banking? If you need to pay for anything, go home to do it? Transfer money the slow way online on your PC? .... when you can buy a cheap mobile phone and do it anywhere for a fraction of the cost. Do you have any idea how difficult it is for the average Thai worker to get credit cards?... and who needs debit cards when you have cardless withdrawals and QR scanning everywhere?

Thailand Election 2026: Bhumjaithai Nears Substantial Win
It's worse, by far, but that doesn't make it good in our own countries. I've never experienced living under direct military junta rule in my home country for just over 5 years. Although this was the latest major junta, Thailand has a long history of alternating between military coups and civilian governments. As long as this can occur, elections are a sham. That's why I'm not interested in the general elections. It doesn't mean I don't like living in Thailand. I wasn't particularly interested in the Australian elections either, which is another kind of circus.

Thailand Election 2026: Bhumjaithai Nears Substantial Win
Let's be clear about this. All elected leaders serve at the pleasure of the military commanders, who really govern Thailand. I'll start taking an interest in Thailand's General Elections when that hold is broken. Until then, it's just a circus. I understand why my girlfriend and all her Thai neighbours had absolutely no interest in wasting their Sunday at the tolling booths.
