  1. That's spot on. The media ignore any good news from Trump. The anti-Trump brigade on here will reply to this message something like this, so I'll save them the trouble: "hahaha, you idiot - there is no good news to report".
  2. I also prefer receipts, but I now use my girlfriend's membership, so I made the sacrifice of living dangerously and risking being overcharged LOL... for the greater good of accumulating points on her membership. There are some benefits of using a membership. You can get extra discounts on some items, along with discounts for using some credit cards. For example, a while back, I got a 50 baht discount for using a MasterCard on several occasions. It might balance out for the occasional mistake made at the till. I usually keep an eye on the cash register screen as the items are being scanned. If I hear extra clicks on items, I make an immediate inquiry.
  3. Do you come from another planet? Thai woman love to hold their partners' hands IF they like them. If you have problems with females holding your hand in public, you're the problem. Age difference—no problems. I'm 65, and my 26-year-old girlfriend always wanted to hold my hand. My current 33-year-old girlfriend won't go anywhere without holding my hand. Many casual dates also loved to hold hands. Just use the test. Let her initiate hand-holding. If she doesn't want to touch you or hold your hand, then you're with the wrong lady. I'm always in major tourist locations. I can't speak for what happens in a small rural town, aka Nakonsanowhere.
  4. It makes no difference. If you pay by cash, you would be holding up customers behind you if you were checking it before you left the counter, AND they are all printed in Thai, so checking it can be time-consuming. Looking at the receipt on the 711 app would be equally time-consuming. I use a 711 membership number, so I don't get paper receipts. Most people using commonsense would pay, take the receipt, and look at it after they leave the counter if they want to check it.
  5. Akara has a "double 0" sized egg. They are monsters.
  6. I pay 135 for a tray of Betagro, but that's from the Betagro shop. They are more expensive in the supermarket. There's more to eggs than just size. I like eggs with strong shells that you can boil without breaking. A lot of eggs have very fragile shells, indicating poor laying hen health.
  7. Betagro eggs, a tray of #1 yesterday was 135 baht as usual. Egg prices have gone down for me.
  8. You've lost the plot. This thread is about the USD and whether it's failing or not. I showed hard facts. You're offering lots of blah, blah.
  9. I don't need credibility, I posted a USDX chart which speaks for itself. It shows that the USD is not failing; historically, the current decline is not unusual. This is the main topic of this thread. You're harping on about credibility, but you show none at all, just the typical anti-Trump bs we see on here every day by a disgruntled bunch of losers.
  10. LOL. Nobody, including Trump, believed that... yet you latch onto this "promise" so you can continue to whine about Trump forever and a day. At least he's been actively trying to find a solution. Perhaps Kamala could have done a better job? I'm sure you and other members with <removed> are happy that he failed to bring peace within 24 hours or 90 days.
  11. I've seen no water throwing up until about 1 pm every day this week. (Beach Road and 2nd Road). I'm not sure what time they start, but I think around 3 pm in the bar areas. You're safe, even in the bar areas, at least until midday. It was bone dry this morning on Beach Road and 2nd Road at 11 am. I was in Na Kluea, East of Sukhumvit, most of yesterday, and I forgot about Songkran - not a drop of water anywhere.
  12. Nobody has been panicking since last Friday, as the USDX has been trading in a tight range around 99.5 points. For those who think the USD will lose its place as THE global reserve currency, what will replace it? Daily trading volume in the Forex Market: USD: $6.6 trillion EURO: $2.3 trillion Japanese Yen: $1.2 trillion GBP: 968 billion GBP CNH (China): $526 billion AUD: $479 billion CAD: $467 billion
  13. Yes, they want the dollar and Trump to fail. Some of these twisted Democrats are siding with China. These types of articles written by experts are adding to the drop in USD strength, because it's sentiment that drives the markets, not real economic data. Let's take a look at the USDX going back 25 years on a monthly chart. It dropped about 10 points in the last 3 months, but this is not the first time this has happened, and it's far too early to predict doom and gloom, but the negative (expert) reporters are trying their damndest to make it collapse. It has ranged between 71 and 120, so now it's somewhere near the average price. I remember having arguments with a friend who was predicting the imminent collapse of the USD 15 years ago.
  14. Yes, COVID (during lockdown) stats will be quite different, but if anything, they will be lower than pre- or post-COVID stats. I will look through your links and see what they tell us. I see you provided them in a subsequent post. Thank you! Going way back before COVID, an analysis of average road deaths vs. the number of deaths during Songkran showed that the average daily road deaths in Thailand were higher than their posted deaths during the Songkran period.
  15. Why do some people who are happily retired in Australia spend any time perusing an SE Asian expat forum and asking silly questions? The answer is probably because they are bored with their "no problems" lives in their countries of birth. We don't retire in Thailand to "have no problems". We retired here to enjoy life in a way that is impossible to enjoy back at home. I'm sure you can figure it out if you try hard enough. I have "no problems" in Thailand and had no problems before I came here, back in Australia. That's a low bar to judge a lifestyle by.
  16. Yeah, the main contributors have been constantly whining about him for 10 years since he came down the escalator in June 2015, with another 4 to go. What a waste of the retirement golden years.
  17. We get the same nonsense every year. I can't get any stats later than 2021 on road deaths in Thailand. Here's what I found from WHO: 2021 Death Rate: 25.4 deaths per 100,000 population. Estimated Deaths: 18,218. Average Daily Deaths: 50. Most Affected: Motorcyclists (83.8% of deaths) and those aged 15-29. This would mean the first 2 days of Songkran resulted in under the average daily death rate in Thailand.
  18. You need a new map. India is nearly 7 times larger than Thailand "as a landmass". 513,000 km2 vs 3.287,000 km2. India is the 7th largest country in the world, compared to Thailand, 49th.
  19. Speak for yourself. My girlfriend is half my age, and I have nothing to whinge about. Life is good.
  20. Did you not read my post? I've seen your list, of course - who hasn't? I said it depends on who is making the calculations. As you didn't look at the link I provided, I will quote the main information about how they calculate the GDP and why: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- World Economics estimates Russia's 2024 GDP at $7.582 trillion in PPP terms (Purchasing Power Parity) and an initial estimate of $7.688 trillion for 2025. This figure is 26% higher than the official estimate published by the World Bank. World Economics' methodology incorporates crucial factors often overlooked in official estimates, such as: The size of the informal economy: It is estimated that 26% of Russia's economic activity occurs outside the formal sector. Outdated GDP base year data: Many countries use outdated base years for their GDP calculations, leading to an underestimation of economic growth. Russia uses a chain-weighted GDP base year. By adjusting for these factors where required, World Economics provides a more accurate picture of Russia's true economic size and potential. For reference, offical data reported Russia's GDP as $1.582 trillion in 2015 constant prices and $2.098 trillion in current prices for 2024.
  21. You throw these figures out like they are a fact. It depends on who is making the calculations. Here's a different way of calculating the size of nations' economies: https://www.worldeconomics.com/GDP/Russia.aspx
  22. OK, granted, if you want to single out Vietnam as an example that tariff adjustments won't make US-made cars affordable for 20 years in Vietnam, yes, I agree. I don't think Vietnam is a target destination for US-made cars and is a fringe market at best. I don't even know if US-made cars would be of much interest to the Vietnamese market even if they were affordable. "Negative spin" is about you taking everything people say and putting a negative spin on it. What else could it mean? Your agenda in these threads is quite clear - whinge about anything and everything that Trump does or has done in the past.
  23. Not happening overnight is not 20 years, and "long term" was not mentioned in my post. Stop exaggerating. Is it your job here to create a negative spin and everything people say?
  24. And who would have expected the car market to change overnight? Duh!
  25. Well, there are 195 countries in the world right now, so that's a fair chunk of them. Eliminate island nations and the very poor countries in Africa, and that would include a big percentage of the countries that count.
