  1. Well, mine works and yours doesn't. I've been using my True number for OTPs from Citi Australia since 2012. What could it be? There might be a problem with your bank's network's communication with the True network. If mine didn't work, then we could blame True, so what's more likely the problem? It's a mystery, for sure. Can you not contact your bank and change your Thai number, receive a OTP to activate your app. All I need for my OTP is to enter my 4 digit code on the app. After that you won't need your True number at all. I opened my Citi bank account from Thailand, so surely changing your number with the bank should be easy.
  2. My memories are growing faint too, but I find reminiscing about the past is depressing because there is plenty of bad mixed in with the good, and the bad is easier to remember. Also it makes me focus more on my age. When I go, the past goes with me, but I don't care. My footprints left on the globe are not important.
  3. I use my True SIM to recieve OTPs from Citibank Australia. After reading this post I was concerned so I tried it and received my OTP as usual. I think the problem is with the Australian network, not True. I have the option to receive a OTP with my Citi mobile app. This might be a good option.
  4. As you're asking about apps in general, there's many answers for different apps. Internet based messaging services like Skype and Facebook Messenger you can use your account on unlimited devices by just logging in on the new device, but some apps like Line, Whatsapp and Viber are linked to your phone number, so you can only use on one device at a time... and apparently Whatsapp warns that if you change devices too frequently they will deactivate your account. Regarding banking apps - they all have their various security protocols, some stricter than others.
  5. You're lucky the land stayed open. In 10 years of living next to "open land", in 2 places, I've lived through two 8 level condo constructions on the open land, adding up to over 3 years of construction noise. It's aways a gamble living next to open land.
  6. Thank you. Actually, it's the per capita statistic that you're grasping at. I think total emissions is more important than per capita, and the Chinese are unlikely to comply with climate change nazi's requests. Do you believe Chineses statistics? I don't. I ignore them. Have a look at the ridiculously low numbers China has given for Covid infections and deaths. In that nation it is all CCP propoganda. I have a fairly low carbon footprint myself. I sparingly use a motorcycle for transport. I haven't owned a car in nearly 20 years.
  7. I have no idea what you posted somewhere else and why should I? Don't be lazy... How about you post your incontrovertible evidence here so I can have a crack at denying it. I'll do my best.
  8. Just exploring your earlier statements: "Between 1901 and 2010 the sea level rose in average 1.7 MILLIMETERS a year. Between 1993 and 2010 it was 3.2 MILLIMETERS/year. In 2018 it was scaring 3.7 MILLIMETERS." Apparently the only way to determine sea level "accurately" is to use the NASA Jason 3 satellite and to within 1 inch or so. Any measurements in the milimeter range are guestimates, and you've included a date range from 1901. There is absolutely no way scientists would have had any clue how to do this back then. I wouldn't worry about it. Someone is trying to blind you with (pseudo) science, a common ploy in the climate change debate.
  9. It is not proper to make such statements without references to the source of your data. It could be a politically motivated statement to help further Green policies. If you cannot back up your statement, it's nothing more than what Greta Thunberg constantly utters "blah blah blah".
  10. This is absolutely terrifying. I'm sure a lot of people who live back from the beach wish it would speed up a bit. Here's some very interesting stats. We always hear about extreme high and low temperatures in various locations around the world, but what about an area's average yearly temperature, The average temperature of 24 hours x 365. That seems to make more sense in determining which place are hotter. In this article, written back in 2014, Klong Thoey in Bangkok is the 3rd warmest place on earth. https://www.wunderground.com/blog/weatherhistorian/warmest-places-on-earth-average-annual-temperature.html 1. Africa: Dallol, Ethiopia: 94.0°F/34.4°C (POR 1960-1966) 2. Asia: Makkah (Mecca), Saudi Arabia: 30.7°C/87.3°F (POR 1980-2009) 3. Asia: Klong Thoey, Bangkok, Thailand: 30.3°C/86.5°F (POR 1981-2010). The data is a bit old, but still interesting. Outside of the Arabian Peninsula, it now appears Bangkok (specifically the downtown Klong Thoey site) has become the hottest site in Asia thanks to the Bangkok’s massive urbanization over the past 30 years (the metro population is estimated to be around 10 million). Daily high temperatures reach 33°C (90°F) almost everyday of the year and the actual average annual temperature year around in Klong Thoey District is a sweltering 30.3°C (86.5°F) according to the most recent POR of 1981-2010.
  11. I agree. I like Paypal and use it a lot. Paypal will go nowhere. These other upstarts are decades behind Paypal. They will get hit with regulatory problems too, and if other services surface in Thailand to compete with Paypal, they will be hit too. What affects one will affect them all.
  12. Come on, the highest recorded temperatures on earth are around 130 - 134F or 56 - 58C (there's a debate about which is accurate). You don't measure the ground in direct sunlight, you measure the air temperature above the ground in shade. These temperatures were recorded as far back as 1913 and many times in the years between.
  13. I was living on a sloped street in a row of townhouses. I was the first one in the row. The Thai neighbour blamed me for dirt left in her carport after heavy rain, so proceeded to block the channel, resulting in my carport flooding in heavy rain with the risk of flooding my lounge. I could not wash the debris left by the rain downhill. I had to pick it up when it was dry. If you're Thai, it's ok, but if you're a foreigner, be careful what you do.
  14. 5555555 to you! It's a subjective matter. What I consider "ridiculous" is thinking that a decrepit, dirty old street lined with decrepit old building, which many people would consider a "dive", is what Pattaya needs. This is the extent of your imagination? So rather than insulting each other for our personal tastes, just be civil, hold the laughter and sarcasm and just agree we have different preferences.
  15. It's just the correct unit conversion. There's nothing more to it.
  16. A beach front mall and hotel would be a great addition. Stop living in the past. Competition is what makes cities better. You can find another small fishing village that is not developed yet. They won't be hard to find in Thailand.
  17. Thanks for reminding me about Covid 19 - I forgot, though for some reason I'm always wearing a mask and now I know why. I don't need to rely on YouTubers to show me Walking Street. It's near my home and I ride up it most days. Most places have been closed and most of these will never reopen... so eventually some businesses will return, but at what level? My prophesied demise of Walking Street is not negative doomsaying. There was no need for the phychological profiling. I'm not sad or happy about how things are on Walking Street. It is what it is and people can make predictions without being sad. Maybe you are the one living a sad life because Walking Street used to be your source of happiness. What's wrong with it being replaced with a nice shopping mall and hotel? Would that make you sad?
  18. 250 Mbps/8 = 31.25 MB/s. The speed you get is very dependent on the number of seeders of course. I will get high speeds on the latest popular offerings.
  19. Your speed is not choked at night by your ISP. Your speed rating is a shared bandwidth and it will depend on what your nieighbours are doing. At night more people might be watching movies and downloading, hence your lower speed. Most cheap services we are talking about here are shared with 20 - 30 neighbours. The cheaper you pay, the more neighbours you are likely to have. This will vary from ISP to ISP and where you live. I don't have a problem with speed dropping at any time of the day. The only way to avoid this is to lease your own line, but that will cost a fortune. You can also pay for business packages which all ISPs do offer, which are much more expensive, but share with fewer neighbours. But if you're only watching movies, it doesn't really matter if it takes 1 minute or 15 minutes to download... with slower connections, just think ahead and download while you sleeping or doing something else.
  20. I was responding to a suggestion that downloading is becoming archaic, not really which is better, however, having used both methods I strongly disagree. My method is better, faster and easier, and if you're a person who likes to rewind to rewatch scenes, a lot better at that too... not to mention logging into streaming servers can be a pain too. Navigating inside the movie is so much easier with the movie on the hard drive. I don't arhive many movies. I watch them, and after I've done my social duty seeding back, delete them. With the size of hard drives these days, it's not a problem.
  21. Have you been for a walk down Walking Street recently? It's far from being ok. It looks like a bombsite. The reason they (council) haven't bothered to repave it or do anything to improve it may indicate they are going to pull it down soon. I super shopping mall on the beachfront is not a bad idea. It's had its moment - its time is over.
  22. There was a recent report from Australia about this. They just reopened international travel, but most people are putting off international travel and choosing to holiday domestically instead. It's going to take awhile and Thailand is not on every country's safe list yet.
  23. I know one way to make KSR busy. Open an official Apple Store there. Despite the poverty caused by the lockdowns, you can only buy the new iPhones by pre-ordering them. Phones costing 25K to 50K are selling like hotcakes. There's still money around, that's for sure.
  24. I never fogot this. The world's wealthy have increased their combined wealth by about 50% since the pandemic began. I'm sure that goes for Thailand's billionaires too. However, the wealthy who acquire real estate in KSR and Walking Street might have different ideas of what to do with it.
