I don't recall all of the fee increases, I do remember that the amount of money to be kept in the bank for marriage or retirement doubled from 200K to 400K and (I think) 400K to 800K.  I think the actual visa fees at least doubled.  I'm sure that someone else who was around then will remember the exact figures.

    in 99  retirement went from 200,000 ( or maybe 250,000) to 800,000

Found this from the fee increases made on 1 January 2004.

Most went up by almost 4 times the then current amount.

I had an American Attorney here in Pattaya, get my renewal done. It cost me a bit over 5000 baht, but service was quick and I was able to pick up my new (and old) passport in about five weeks. I had already paid the Embassy fee for the passport and had a receipt. Integrity Legal can do the whole package for you if necessary. The Embassy website is a garbage can of bad tech.

you paid 5,000 baht OVER the price of the $130?
    wow

I am not the smartest always in the room but was able to get thru the applications an got it back in 41 days in Nov by mail

So in future folk be advised to have your passport stamps and visa information transferred when your extension is due.

They can do it at the same time.

Travel including international is no issue with both passports.

exactly and easily done when ur using an agent for old extension. New passport/new extension

    all at same time

  4. another reason why more and more people move to using agents<
    no worries

everyone wins; immigration gets a slice of the pie, agent makes a few Baht, PLUS you dont have to deal with the stress
while if you do it on ur own they get zip and ur stressed out every year worrying if you have all ur ducks lined up or they made some change and you were not informed.

A tenant with a rental contract is a "possessor" and has an obligation to do TM 30 when required.

When I put a new tenant in a condo I do the TM 30. No problem. For me to be responsible for a TM 30 when a tenant comes and goes during the tenancy is ludicrous. How would I know his movements?  Even if I did what happens if I am not in Thailand at the time?

I understand that some IO's are a bit pedantic about requiring an owner to do TM 30, but tenants can do the TM 30 with a copy of the house book and rental contract. I know because I have tenants who have done it

    exactly>
PLUS you can always do it online from wherever you are when a new tenant checks in

i registered as house possessor with unloading the owners id card an house book online

  6. To drive or lease a car in Thailand as a tourist or visitor it is necessary to have either a Thai driving licence or a valid foreign driving licence with a photograph. The foreign licence must either be in English, or be accompanied by an official translation into English or Thai. The licence needs to have been issued by a country that has a treaty with the Thai government allowing the mutual acceptance of driving licences.  Most countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the USA have this agreement with Thailand under the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic or the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic

If the driver is not a tourist or visitor but is a resident with a non-immigrant visa, then it is necessary to have a Thai driver's licence.

The 505 Thai baht for this International Driver's Permit was and is a small amount of money.  VERY fortunately I was able to avoid the line ups at the Phuket DoT (and fortunately I did not have to 1st go to Phuket's immigration office to obtain a piece of paper with proof of residency), so the process to obtain the IDP was not painful (where I note most time, in my experience, the line ups at Phuket's DoT are very long).

As for the requirement ?  I think I would call it more 'peace of mind' than a 'requirement'  ... I note that the car rental sites for New Zealand, (where I plan to visit and from where I booked rental cars), from two different companies (one in the North Island and one in the South Island), both state " If the licence is not in English, an International Driving Permit will be required when you arrive to collect your rental car. "

I have 2 driver's licences:  A German driver's licence (not in English) and a Thai driver's licence (not in English).  So I decided paying 505 THB in advance of heading to NewZealand was an ok way forward for piece of mind.

... one unrelated piece of trivia, ... the International Driver's Permit lists the countries where it is valid.  Of interest - Germany is not on that list.  That is a mute point for me as (1) I am not planning to visit Germany in the next 12 months, and (2) I already have a German driver's license.  But I found that omission of Germany from the list of countries in this Thai purchased IDP of interest.

    BOLD:
    exactly what i said
an IDP Is ONLY useful if ur LIcnse iks not in Englsih ( a Thai license is )
no idea what thai license u have but both mine are in Thai & English
where id number is ur passport  #

this is NOT mine but exactly like mine

Their stated reason was to stop people using agents.

Just where did Immigration state this?

i'd say its the complete opposite, before it was easy,
1, borrow 800,000 put it in the bank for one day, get extension, withdraw
    2. Than get a letter from the US, UK embassy , others stating you had a pension of 65,000/month

    3. Than had to stay in the bank 3 months+2 months
in came the agents!! and now that immigration is making serious $$$, they will remain.

Just to clarify from my own experience.
If you are indeed referring to the sums required of either the 400,000 Baht or 800,000 Baht, I to had them in a fixed deposit account, with them being transferred and credit to my savings account the following day.
This practice I was told was totally unacceptable, and I was refused my renewal retirement visa on these grounds.
It was only on appealing to the Head of Immigration in Bangkok, that this judgement was overturned.
I was told in no uncertain terms, that regarding these requested funds there can be no fixed accounts at all - period.
Only solely and only same day access through a normal savings account.

the money needs to be able to be accessed easily

BUT if you Do access it , an it drops below the min limits, you cant get ur next extension<

    ahhhh Thailand
