What qualifies as "most functions"? What is it that you're having issues with? Your watch has a gazillion applications which operate independent of your phone, and has WiFi. That said, the lack of 4G means you do need WiFi or a linked Android phone via BT, for internet connectivity, which limits mobility a bit.

Well, for starters, I had a watch face with a weather widget.  Doesn't update unless paired with mobile phone.  How useful is that?

Or how about when flying home:  New York to Seoul to Bangkok.  Wanted my watch to auto-synch to local times.  Nope.  Not without first synching my mobile phone and then pairing it with the watch.

Yes, within the last month the taxi business at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya charged me 250 baht to go from the hospital to Jomtien Soi 5 Immigration. That's cheaper than Grab for the same journey.

You know, it never occurred to me to ask the rate for a taxi there at the BHP entrance.  Next time I will.  Thanks!

  3. Thanks for confirming my impression.  Luckily my phone has a sort of "quick charge" where it fully charges in 60 minutes.  Since I don't have any of the health function apps (I think, or if I do, I don't use them) the watch will actually last 2-3 days with just time-telling being used.

The watch is a little too dressy for me to wear around town hopping on and off baht buses in Pattaya, but I wore it most of the time I was in the USA.  I will wear it on my frequent trips to Bangkok and see how it holds up.

My watch is a Fossil (just like me!) Sport watch.  I liked the band/face of the Fossil Explorist, but the Sport had a newer generation of processor (and hence, the fast charging.)

  4. I bought one on my last trip to the US, mainly because I fell in love with the displayed time image on a display model.  It's an Android Wear watch, and later learned that pretty much any watch face on one Android watch can be put on any other Android watch.  Oh, well.

I'm a total neophyte with smart watches, and wonder what folks actually use them for.  I was disappointed that it seems most functions need to be done via a connected (via Bluetooth) phone.  What's the point of that?  Why not just do whatever function it is on the phone itself?  Hoping to be corrected that I've got the basic concept wrong, so fire away at my ignorance!

  5. The trip from my Jomtien condo to Bangkok Hospital-Pattaya used to be B180-B200.  Now it's usually B300-B350.

Grab also used to be cheaper than the pickup truck "taxis" in the Tesco parking lot, but now they are roughly the same price.  It can be a hassle to play the "where to meet to avoid the taxi mafia" game, so I have surrendered and just use the pickup trucks now.  No waiting.

  6. The one I had several years ago looked just like that.  It came with a Samsung washer, and I got new ones at the Samsung service center in Pattaya.  I just brought in the old one and they knew what it was.  Can't remember how much it cost, but it wasn't much.

Oh, mine was plastic, not glass.

  7. One plus for VT5 is that (I've heard) they already offer fibre internet service.  Jealous?  Who me?  (Yep.)

If you are interested in beach access, there is a locked gate (VT5 owners have a card key) at the beach end of the driveway.

The foreign-owned 49% quota is full at both VT5 buildings, so the units still for sale by the developer are only for Thai- or company-owned purchases.

I looked at VT5 when I bought in 2016 and was impressed with the state of the buildings in general and the units I looked at in particular, but decided to buy elsewhere.

  8. At my building, at the January AGM the JPM was not present, nor were any committee members (turns out we didn't have any as they had all resigned, sold, died, or whatever) so a co-owner volunteered to chair the meeting and was voted to do so by a majority of attending co-owners.

As an aside, at the meeting the agenda was modified so that the only business conducted was to elect a committee, and to check into replacing the JPM.  Shortly after the meeting, it was discovered that the committees elected at the AGMs for the previous four years were never registered at the Land Office, so basically the building had been without a legal committee for five years. (!)  (I know Kitten Kong will not be surprised in the least.  LOL!)

  9. I'm not sure how fast Dr. Anna can have the lab rush the biopsy, but each time I've gone she routinely had me come back a week later for the results.  I suspect if she had concerns of an imminent problem, she could rush the biopsy.

If she takes a sample for biopsy and then removes the entire "blemish" is there any reason for a rush?

PS:  I'm another of Dr. Anna's cheerleaders.  She is very good, speaks fluent English and has a decent sense of humor.

Voltaren is OK for what you want, but I read somewhere it had a bad wrap if used for a long time.
It still can cause stomach problems in some people.
I'm not sure of the Thai name, probably Voltaren.

Can someone clarify if that applies to the Voltaren gel?  I have been advised by two doctors not to rely on taking Voltaren tablets frequently as they will stress the liver, but I thought a topical gel would avoid that (and stomach problems.)

  11. Slightly off topic, but I just flew into New York yesterday (10 October 2019) and late in the evening was channel surfing on the TV and landed on the SCI (Science) channel with a documentary about black holes and they already had this news, including the photo.  According to the photo caption in the OP, the info was released that same day.  Talk about being up to date.  I'm used to science re-run documentaries from 5 to 10 years ago on cable TV channels in Thailand.

    The OP article says:

Black holes are monstrous celestial entities exerting gravitational fields so vicious that no matter or light can escape.

which is not technically correct, according to the program I watched.  It said black holes come in varying sizes down to possibly including (theoretical at this point) "micro black holes" which are too small to be seen by the human eye.

The best place I have found in the Pattaya area for authentic Mexican food is Mikes Mexican, on Theppasit going towards Jomtien.

I think you mean Thappraya Road?  I thought I was the only one who mixed the two up!

  13. I wasn't going to bother with followup, but since @jeancherry revived the thread, I'll say that I broke down and visited the bakery section at O'Delices and the previous reviews are spot on -- my diet will be off the rails for a while now.  I was tempted to "dine" in and try their coffee, but was in a bit of a rush.  Will definitely do so soon, though.
